Maha govt plans to bring in new sand policy for Gharkul beneficiaries
Mumbai: Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday announced in the state Assembly that the government is contemplating formulating a separate policy under which free sand will be transported to the beneficiaries of the Gharkul scheme. Bawankule also clarified in the House that the Tehsildar was suspended after a complaint was filed regarding some sand cases in the Tumsar Assembly constituency. "We don't know who is using whose name. If anyone is misusing my name or the Chief Minister's name, file an FIR directly at the police station. We will put such people in jail," he warned. Minister Bawankule said, "The Gharkul beneficiaries have received royalty, but now the question is – who will deliver the sand to their homes? The transportation cost is Rs 30,000 to 40,000. The beneficiaries cannot afford this much cost. The sand reserves are far away in many places, and it has to be delivered from a distance of 30-50 km." Considering these difficulties, the Revenue Department, in collaboration with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Finance Department, has started considering a new 'Domestic Sand Transport Policy'. The minister said, "I will present a clear plan in this regard before the end of the session. As much help as possible will be provided to the beneficiaries of the Gharkul scheme to ensure easy access to sand." Earlier, Minister Bawankule announced that the transportation of excavated sand will be allowed for 24 hours after taking a valid transport permit in Maharashtra. "As the sand transportation is not permitted between 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., the use of sand in the state is not done fully. Therefore, the government, in a bid to promote maximum use of the stock of sand excavated from 6 am to 6 pm, has decided to allow 24-hour transportation by procuring a valid permit, adhering to certain conditions. The government is providing the facility of procuring a valid permit that will be available for 24 hours," he said.

Maharashtra govt announces ex-gratia aid for warkaris in case of mishaps during Pandharpur pilgrimage
The Maharashtra government on Tuesday (July 1, 2025) announced that it will provide ex-gratia assistance of ₹4 lakh to the next of kin of warkaris (devotees of Lord Vitthal) in the event of accidental death during the annual Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage to Pandharpur. The announcement was made through a Government Resolution (GR) issued by the Revenue and Forest Department under the 'Vitthal Rakhumai Warkari Yojana – 2025', aimed at extending financial relief to pilgrims undertaking the spiritually significant journey on foot or via private or public transport. Aid for disability and hospitalisation According to the GR, in case of injury or disability during the Wari, warkaris who suffer 40% to 60% of disability will be eligible for ₹74,000, while those with disability exceeding 60% will receive ₹2.5 lakh. The State will also provide medical assistance for hospitalisation — warkaris admitted for over one week will be eligible for ₹16,000, and those hospitalised for less than a week will receive ₹5,400. The scheme will be in effect for incidents occurring during the Wari period from June 16 to July 10, 2025, covering devotees journeying to Shri Kshetra Pandharpur, a prominent temple town in Solapur district, known for the veneration of Lord Vitthal and Goddess Rakhumai. Application process and verification To claim the financial assistance, the concerned warkari or their heir must submit an application to the District Collector, along with a certificate issued by the Tehsildar confirming the individual's participation in Ashadhi Wari–2025. All Tehsildars have been directed to verify such claims and issue certificates accordingly, the GR said. The District Collectors have been authorised to verify applications and sanction the aid after reviewing the Tehsildar's certificate, along with death or medical documentation substantiating the mishap. Following the conclusion of the Wari on July 10, all district collectors are required to submit a comprehensive report detailing the assistance provided in their respective jurisdictions by July 30, 2025.

Kanwar committees to get direct aid of Rs 50K to Rs 10L: CM Rekha Gupt ahead of yatra
NEW DELHI: CM Rekha Gupta on Tuesday shared key policy decisions ahead of the upcoming Kanwar Yatra. She said the Delhi Cabinet has approved new reforms to ensure better services for Kanwariyas, with Kanwar service committees now receiving direct assistance from the government. The CM said these committees will get grant-in-aid via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), replacing the old tender-based system prone to corruption and poor-quality supplies. Only registered committees with valid PAN, bank details, and registration certificates will be eligible. Kanwar camps will be classified based on tent area and days of operation. Committees will get a minimum grant of Rs 50,000 and a maximum of Rs 10 lakh. CM Gupta said 50% of the amount will be released in advance and the rest after submission of the Utilization Certificate (UC), geo-tagged photos verified by SDM/Tehsildar, and complete audit documents.

Punjab tehsils on way to becoming graft-free: CM Bhagwant Mann
Dedicating a tehsil complex constructed at a cost of Rs 10.80 crore in Patiala's Dudhan Sadhan, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Monday said all tehsil and sub-tehsil complexes in Punjab were heading towards becoming corruption free due to strenuous efforts of his government. 'Earlier, revenue officers used to think that they had the right to loot people through corruption, and they even threatened to disrupt the work if any action was taken against them. However, the AAP government launched a major crackdown against corrupt practices, and the result is that all tehsils and sub-tehsils complexes across Punjab are heading towards becoming corruption-free,' the CM said. The building will house the offices of SDM, Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar and others. Mann said, 'Dudhan Sadhan is primarily a rural area. Earlier, the SDM's office was situated at the Mini Secretariat in Patiala, due to which people had to suffer a lot to get their routine administrative work done. To facilitate the general public, the state government has decided to construct this complex here only. It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that such modern tehsil complexes are being built across the state to facilitate the people. ' The CM said the foundation stone of the project was laid in January 2023 and it was completed in a record time span. 'This project will immensely benefit the masses by delivering them citizen-centric services in a time-bound manner. It will facilitate the people in providing the services at their vicinity, saving their time, money and energy.' Mann said the previous regimes had never paid any heed towards such initiatives to serve the people in a better manner. 'Earlier, the reins of the state were in the wrong hands, due to which the state suffered adversely. Ever since assuming the charge of office, the AAP government has been giving top priority to such works of immense public importance. Such buildings are being constructed while keeping in view the future needs of the people,' Mann added. Equating corruption with cancer, the CM said, 'Stern action is the only form of chemotherapy which can remove this cancer in tehsil offices. Revenue officers used to harass the common man on the pretext of mass leaves or strikes, but the state government has not bowed before these corrupt officers.' Emphasising that the AAP is an outcome of the anti-corruption movement, Mann said they made concerted efforts to make Punjab free from corruption. To check corruption, the state government introduced an easy registration initiative for land deeds, which promotes self-reliance, reduces dependency on private deed writers, and empowers citizens to handle their transactions independently. Mann said Akali leaders reduced the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to a mere 'Shiromani Golak Parbandhak Committee' out of their 'greed for money'. 'The Badals misused their political power to interfere in religious affairs, including manipulating appointments of Jathedars of the Akal Takht to suit their personal interests,' the CM alleged.

HC temporarily restrains demolition 220 families' residences in Malegaon fort
MUMBAI: In a reprieve for 220 families residing in the Bhuikot Killa, the Malegaon fort, the Bombay high court on Friday restrained the revenue department from acting on demolition notices issued. The vacation bench of justice Gauri Godse and justice Somasekhar Sundaresan was hearing a petition filed by resident Mohammad Rajjab Khan, and other residents of the fort. According to the petition, the tourism and cultural affairs department of the state government issued a Government Resolution (GR) on January 20, instructing district collectors to remove all encroachments from the 47 forts protected by the Central Government and 62 forts protected by the archaeology department as per the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1969. Following the GR, the Malegaon tehsildar issued eviction and demolition notices to the residents of the fort in March and April 2025, prompting them to approach the high court. Residents contended that they have been residing in the structures for 40 years and have necessary documents like electricity bills, house tax, water tax bills, ration cards etc. They added that an educational institute is running a school and a junior college at the fort's centre, and a separate girls' school is also located within the fort premises. These schools are using the open space in the fort as their playground. Demolition notices were issued to individual residents only, not these establishments, said the petitioners. Advocate Manisha Desai said a regular bench on May 8 granted protection to some residents after noting that schools and a gymkhana were functioning out of the fort area. The petitioner also claimed that the authorities turned a blind eye to several unauthorised structures within the fort and are selectively targeting the residents of the surrounding localities, falling outside the fort precinct. Desai also pointed out that the tehsildar passed fresh orders on May 26 for eviction and demolition of the residential structures. However, these were not served to the petitioners. Against this backdrop, the vacation bench restrained the revenue authorities from taking any coercive steps against the petitioners' structures. It also directed the additional government pleader Kavita N Solunke to take instruction as to whether the Tehsildar had passed any fresh orders for eviction and demolition and to file affidavits in reply to the petitions by June 10, when the petitions would come up for further hearing.
