Congress leaders back Tejashwi as CM face

Patna: Congress working committee (CWC) member and the party's former state president, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, said on Friday that if the Grand Alliance gets a majority in the upcoming assembly polls, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav would be the chief minister. "If not Tejashwi, then who else will become the CM?" Singh said while responding to media queries while coming out of the official residence of the RJD president Lalu Prasad in the state capital here. Leader of opposition Tejashwi lives at the same residence with his parents Lalu and former CM Rabri Devi. Singh met Lalu and Tejashwi. Akhilesh and Lalu had a long conversation on the poll-related issues. While coming out of Lalu's residence, Singh told reporters that Tejashwi would be the chief minister, if the Grand Alliance is voted to power. Another Congress leader and former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar too said that there was no confusion or dispute over Tejashwi being the opposition's face for the CM's post in Bihar. Kanhaiya, who hails from Begusarai, also said that the CM would be from the RJD if the Grand Alliance gets a majority in the upcoming assembly polls. Talking to reporters, Kanhaiya said, the waves of change are stronger than in the last assembly polls in Bihar and the BJP is not raking up 'Operation Sindoor' as a poll plank because it knows that the people of the state will respond negatively to it as they believe it to be a matter of the country's honour and no party should politicise it. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo He also said, "It is true that the RJD is the bigger party, has more MLAs, it provides leadership to the 'Mahagathbandhan', they have the post of leader of the opposition. Naturally, it is their responsibility. There is no confusion over Tejashwi being the opposition's CM face." Addressing a function here, Tejashwi said he never got a chance of serving people for an uninterrupted period of five years. He urged the people to provide him a term of full five years to lead the state and serve its people in a better way.

Oppn unites against electoral roll revision

1 2 Patna: All allies of the opposition INDIA bloc joined forces on Friday to vehemently oppose the Election Commission 's decision to carry out a special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls ahead of the Bihar assembly elections . The leaders termed the move "objectionable and worrying" and alleged it was aimed at indirectly aiding the ruling NDA. They pledged to resist what they called the EC's "arbitrary actions". Addressing a joint press conference, leader of the opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said, "We smell a big conspiracy in this decision. How can the electoral roll of eight crore voters be updated in just one month, especially when the monsoon has arrived and 73% of Bihar is flood-prone? Should people save their lives or arrange documents to get their names added to the voters' list?" Tejashwi alleged that the entire exercise was meant to disenfranchise poor, Dalit, underprivileged and minority voters by demanding documents that many of them cannot easily obtain. "Why the sudden urgency to complete the SIR in 25 days, when this has never been done in the past 22 years?" he asked. He warned that once names are removed from the electoral roll, the next step could be the denial of welfare benefits like pensions, rations, and scholarships. Citing government figures, he said around three crore migrant workers from Bihar may not be able to verify their identity in such a short period. He also criticised the inconsistency in the Election Commission's recent moves. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thị trường có dấu hiệu suy thoái không? "This is a clear plan to delete names to benefit the ruling alliance," he alleged. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera claimed that the SIR amounted to a "dacoity" of the poor voters' rights. "Wherever the NDA is in trouble, it turns to such tactics," he said. On social media, the Congress warned, "Beware Bihar! The Maharashtra-style game is now set in Bihar!" CPI-ML general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya also raised alarm, stating, "It is supposed to be the voters who elect the govt, but in this case, the govt is choosing the voters." Calling the exercise unconstitutional, he said, "We will oppose this at every level… Har morche par ladai hogi… Ham Loktantra ka mazaak nahin banane denge." CPI leader Rambabu Kumar and CPI(M) leader Arun Kumar were also present at the press conference.

Opposition cries foul over EC's Bihar voter list move, INDIA bloc to challenge it

Patna, 27 June (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday said that the Election Commission of India's announcement of a massive voter list revision in Bihar just before the assembly elections is deeply troubling. It is a mockery of democracy and the Constitution of India, he charged. Addressing a press conference in Patna on Friday, along with other leaders of INDIA Alliance, he announced that they will challenge the decision. They will approach the Election Commission of India soon, he assured. He said 'An attempt to revise the registration list of 8 crore voters in only 25 days raises serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. This move fuels suspicions of a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise vulnerable populations, including the poor, marginalised communities, Dalits, Adivasis, and minorities.' Tejashwi added 'Why the voter list revision was not undertaken before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections? If the voter list used in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was valid, no one should question its validity now. If the government is honest in this matter, then it should declare the 2024 Lok Sabha elections null and void.' He said that what's happening in Bihar is a direct attack on democracy, stripping citizens of their basic rights. It's a massive scheme to cut off the poor, the oppressed, and the vulnerable from vital resources such as food, pensions, and student aid. The RJD leader added 'There's a concerted effort by the BJP and RSS to take away constitutional rights, with the RSS specifically advocating for the removal of secularism and socialism from the Indian Constitution.' Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram accused the central government of attempting to manipulate the Bihar elections, similar to what he claims happened in Maharashtra. He warned that the attempt to reduce the official voter count will be met with strong resistance. Congress's national spokesperson Pawan Khera alleged that the central government has been manipulating the Election Commission to benefit the BJP. Citing media surveys that predict an NDA loss and a potential victory for the INDIA alliance in the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, Khera claimed that the government is trying to disenfranchise the youth due to their discontent over unemployment, exam leaks, and job scarcity. CPI (ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya alleged that this is a conspiracy to rig the election, akin to the demonetisation policy. He argued that voter registration is the Election Commission's duty. He asserted that asking voters to prove their eligibility with documentation is unnecessary given the government's failure to provide birth certificates to every citizen. VIP spokesperson Dev Jyoti termed it a conspiracy to implement NRC. He also alleged that demanding documentation from the poor, backward, and most backward communities is a thinly veiled attempt to disenfranchise them. UNI XC RKM

RJD releases campaign song projecting Tejashwi Yadav as ‘Bihar ka Beta' ahead of Assembly polls

Patna: As Bihar gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has released a new campaign song projecting Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, as a 'strong, honest, and visionary leader' and 'Bihar ka beta (son of Bihar)." The song outlines the RJD's key poll promises, including 'Mai-Bahin Maan Yojana', employment opportunities for the youth, 200 units of free electricity, social security, monthly pension of Rs 1,500, improvement in education and healthcare, establishment of industries and stopping migration to other states. The video further claims that once the RJD government is formed, there will be an adequate number of doctors in hospitals, world-class treatment facilities, control over bribery and corruption in government systems, and focus on farmers, labourers, and the Constitution. The campaign song focusses on improving the lives of farmers and labourers and frames the upcoming election as a battle to protect the Constitution and democracy in Bihar. Through this campaign song, the RJD is working to strengthen Tejashwi Yadav's image as a grassroots leader capable of bringing change in Bihar's governance landscape while directly appealing to young voters, women, farmers, and marginalised communities. In a passionate appeal during a Student Parliament event held in Patna on Thursday, LoP Tejashwi asked for a chance to prove himself as Chief Minister, pledging to deliver in 20 months what the NDA couldn't do in 20 years. His major promises included the formation of a youth commission, 100 per cent domicile policy for Bihar government jobs, fee waiver for all government examination forms, guarantee of 275 academic days per year in schools, mandatory 80 per cent attendance for students and state-sponsored exam preparation for all graduates. The RJD's promises also include a world-class educational city on 2,000 acres of land, milk and eggs for every child from BPL families, focus on core subjects like English, Maths, and Science from Class 5, English fluency training for students, digital and physical libraries in every school, with mandatory reading hours. In a symbolic gesture, LoP Tejashwi distributed pens to students, saying: 'Pencil marks can be erased, but pen marks cannot. This pen is for changing Bihar's destiny.'

NDA netas, PK take a swipe at Tejashwi

Patna: Functionaries of the ruling NDA and Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor on Thursday launched a scathing attack on RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav after he promised to "transform Bihar in 20 months". Speaking at an event in Bihta to mark the 75th death anniversary of Swami Sahajanand Saraswati, deputy CM Samrat Choudhary and water resources minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary ridiculed the outreach, suggesting the youth of Bihar still remember the state of governance under the 15-year tenure of RJD chief Lalu Prasad and his family. Prashant Kishor, addressing the reporters in Ara, said, "Tejashwi thinks he will reach the seat of power by distributing pens. While the educated youth of Bihar are roaming unemployed, a ninth fail wants to become the king of Bihar by distributing pens." Kishor went on to question the RJD leader's track record. "His parents were chief ministers for 15 years. He himself was the deputy CM for three years. Yet less than 5% of children from Dalit, backward and Muslim communities are able to pass the 12th exams. Tejashwi should answer first," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cervecería Nacional CFD: Calcula cuánto podrías ganar invirtiendo solo $100 Empieza a invertir Inscríbete ahora Undo The BJP also dismissed Tejashwi's promises as hollow rhetoric. "The youth in Bihar are now intellectually awakened and can see through the sugar-coated traps of political deception crafted for elections by Tejashwi," said BJP state media head Danish Eqbal. JD(U) spokesperson Manish Yadav echoed similar criticism, calling Tejashwi's talk on jobs and education "ridiculous." "When the leader of opposition addresses the youth, it is ironic. During the tenure of his parents, the appointment process itself was mired in corruption. Jobs were not given, they were auctioned," he alleged.
