Telangana govt to submit KLIP report to Ghose panel; opposes Banakacherla project, awaits HC verdict on panchayat polls

HYDERABAD: The Telangana cabinet, chaired by chief minister A Revanth Reddy, on Monday decided to submit a comprehensive report to the Justice PC Ghose Commission probing the lapses in the execution of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). The submission will include whether the project received formal cabinet approval during the previous BRS regime, the rationale for constituting a cabinet sub-committee, and the extent to which its recommendations were implemented. In other important decisions taken at the meeting, the cabinet approved the 201-km southern corridor of the Regional Ring Road, extending from Choutuppal to Sangareddy and an IIIT for Mahbubnagar. Telangana Thalli statues will be installed in every district collectorate before Dec 9. Briefing the media after the meeting at the state secretariat, revenue and housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, along with ministers Vakiti Srihari and Ponnam Prabhakar, said the govt would submit all requested information on KLIS by June 30. "This includes details on what then engineers-many now retired-recommended, and the basis on which the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages were taken up," Srinivas Reddy said. The cabinet also took a strong stand on the Banakacherla project, vowing to resist it at all costs to safeguard Telangana's share of river waters. Srinivas Reddy alleged that a 'vicious campaign' was being run to blame the Congress govt for the project, even though the foundation stone was laid during the previous BRS govt's tenure. "To set the record straight, the govt will soon give a detailed power-point presentation to all elected representatives," he said. The presentation, scheduled for the first week of July, will cover how the former BRS govt 'surrendered' Telangana's rightful water share to Andhra Pradesh, steps the Congress govt has taken to halt Banakacherla, and the strategy going forward. While sources confirmed that the cabinet also deliberated on holding talks with the AP govt regarding the river water dispute, ministers remained tight-lipped on whether formal cabinet approval was given for such talks. Similarly, they refrained from confirming if the KLIS ever received cabinet sanction under the previous regime. 'All such details will be placed before the Ghose Commission,' Srinivas Reddy reiterated. On the much-delayed panchayat polls, minister Prabhakar said the Telangana high court reserved its judgment after hearing the case on Monday. 'Once the judgment is delivered, the state govt will decide on election timeline and reservations in local bodies accordingly,' he said.

Chief minister A Revanth Reddy, along with deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers, will address farmers at the Rythu Bharosa Vijayotsavam Sabha on Tuesday near the Rajiv Gandhi statue, opposite the Telangana Secretariat. The event marks the state govt's achievement of depositing Rs 9,000 crore into the accounts of lakhs of farmers in just nine days. The Congress-led govt is organising victory celebrations across all Rythu Vedikas, villages, and mandal headquarters. On June 24, the final day of the celebrations, meetings will be held simultaneously across the state to showcase the govt's commitment to farmers and agriculture. The chief minister is expected to highlight the rollout of Rythu Bharosa and other key welfare measures from the main stage in Hyderabad. 'This is the first time in Telangana's history that Rs 9,000 crore has been credited to farmers' accounts in just nine days,' said Bhatti. 'While the previous BRS govt gave Rs 10,000 per acre per year, our govt is giving Rs 12,000 per acre annually. We are not only delivering more, but doing it faster and without discrimination,' he added. Ahead of the event, agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, chief secretary Santhi Kumari, and senior officials from various departments reviewed the arrangements. Speaking after the review, Tummala said the Congress had a legacy of supporting farmers.

Old vs new: Row over Telangana Thalli statue

Jangaon:The installation of the Telangana Thalli statue in Palakurthi snowballed into a major controversy with both the BRS and the Congress cadres hellbent on installing the earlier and the new version of the statue of Telangana Thalli. It may be recalled here that the Revanth Reddy Government unveiled a newly designed Telangana Thalli statue, replacing the previous one that the BRS Government designed. The Congress cadre removed the old Telugu Thalli statue and installed the newly designed statue, despite stern opposition from the BRS cadre. Congress cadre added more fuel to the controversy by throwing the old statue into nearby thorny bushes. In this regard, BRS leader Errabelli Usha Dayakar Rao, wife of former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, who represented the Palakurthi constituency thrice before losing in the 2023 election, led a rally with the cadre to the police station on Sunday. But the police stopped their rally and tried to disperse the BRS workers. Fury over the development, Usha Dayakar Rao found fault with the police for giving undue importance to Jhansi Reddy, the mother-in-law of local MLA Yashaswini Reddy. 'Even though Jhansi Reddy didn't have Indian citizenship, the police were giving high priority. Jhansi is behaving like a de facto MLA. Why aren't the police allowing me to the police station to register a complaint against the Congress workers' attacks on BRS cadre?' Usha Dayakar Rao questioned. Referring to the illegal arrests and attacks on BRS workers, she said that they have been counting the mistakes of the police and will pay back after returning to power.

Kavitha explodes, alleges BRS-BJP merger bid, slams party leadership and ‘coverts'

Hyderabad: In a dramatic escalation of intra-party squabbling, BRS MLC and former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of party supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao, on Thursday accused senior leaders within her own party of attempting to merge the Bharat Rashtra Samithi with the BJP—a move she says she vehemently opposed even while incarcerated in the Delhi liquor policy scam case last year. In an informal but politically loaded media interaction at her Banjara Hills residence, Kavitha tore into the party leadership, indirectly targeting working president and her brother KT Rama Rao for failing to act against 'internal coverts,' not responding to attacks from the Congress, and remaining silent during a coordinated smear campaign against her. "When I was in jail, there was talk of merging BRS with BJP. I told my father KCR clearly: Let the party remain independent, even if it meant I stayed in jail for six months or another year," Kavitha said. The MLC said her actions were aimed only at strengthening the party, and backstabbing was not in her DNA. 'Backstabbed from within' Kavitha said there was a deliberate internal conspiracy to sideline her and sever her influence with KCR. Referring to the leak of a private feedback letter she had written to her father earlier this month, she accused party insiders—"coverts," as she put it—of attempting to discredit her and questioned why the party leadership failed to identify or act against those responsible. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Truque caseiro eficaz contra o bigode chinês (faça hoje mesmo) Notícias | Beleza | Mulher Saiba Mais Undo "Instead of finding the ones who leaked the letter, they unleashed paid social media trolls and media artistes—even from abroad—to malign me. I demanded action against 'leaku veerulu' (those who leaked my letter), but they seem more focused on 'Greeku veerulu' (Greek warriors)," she quipped. Despite the fallout, she said she stood by her letter, which highlighted the lack of aggressive opposition to the Congress, the need for BC reservations, and the declining accessibility of party leaders. "I have written hundreds of letters over 25 years. This was not new. After reading the letters, KCR tears them. The only difference is—this one wasn't torn up by KCR, and it was leaked to the media by some coverts," she remarked. Without naming him directly, Kavitha repeatedly criticised KTR's passive approach to major political developments, including the Congress-led probe into the Kaleshwaram project and the symbolic BRS protest over the Telangana Thalli statue. She mocked the leadership's decision to celebrate the party's silver jubilee abroad while ignoring issues at home. She said the silver jubilee public meeting in Warangal was a huge success because of KCR. "When Congress changed the Telangana Thalli statue, we wore black for one day and moved on. But we had more outrage over Adani?" she asked, questioning the party's priorities. 'Won't work under anyone' She also hit out at the party's failure to support local BRS leaders whose institutions faced demolition, saying the leadership remained 'mute spectators.' Declaring that she would never leave BRS unless pushed, Kavitha made it clear she would not work under anyone but KCR (who she called her boss), while still respecting the position of the working president. "Some people who preach morals today never ran the show themselves. They always stood behind KCR's shadow," she claimed. Kavitha avoided giving a direct answer about floating a new political party. However, she reiterated that her fight was for transparency and reform within BRS. "My only demand right now is to expose the moles within the party. That's the starting point," she said. She distanced herself from rumours about joining the Congress, describing it as a 'sinking ship' and affirming that she hadn't been in contact with any Congress leaders since 2013, during the Telangana statehood agitation. "Back then, it was KCR and I who met Sonia Gandhi through Oscar Fernandes," she recalled. Ironically, she alleged that some BRS leaders were currently hobnobbing with both Congress and BJP—one even attending a BJP leader's hospital inauguration while the party remained unaware or indifferent. 'Not after power or posts' Kavitha also revealed that she offered to resign from her MLC post after her arrest, but KCR discouraged it. She clarified that her nomination to the legislative council after her 2019 Lok Sabha defeat was more for 'protocol reasons,' and due to lack of local support from BRS MLAs in her constituency. "I wasn't given the MLC for power. It was so I could have a platform in Nizamabad," she said, suggesting she was still paying the price for internal sabotage in 2019. She further emphasised that her Telangana Jagruthi initiatives, including caste census and BC reservations, were never meant to challenge the BRS, but to strengthen its social justice plank.

Telangana's Heritage in the Spotlight: Miss World Contestants Visit State Secretariat in Grand Cultural Showcase

As part of the ongoing 72nd Miss World Festival, 107 contestants from across the globe visited the iconic Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat on May 18, immersing themselves in the state's rich cultural legacy and forward-looking vision. The visit was a powerful reflection of Telangana's journey from tradition to innovation and its growing stature as a global destination. The day began with a heartfelt tribute at the Telangana Thalli statue, a symbolic gesture underscoring the state's identity and aspirations. The contestants were then welcomed on the Secretariat's central lawn with an authentic Hyderabadi tea menu, offering a warm taste of local hospitality. To set the tone, the Telangana Anthem was performed, followed by a spectacular 3D projection mapping show. The projection illuminated the Secretariat's grand facade with a visual retelling of Telangana's evolution, from its formation to its rise as a technology and development hub. One of the standout moments of the day was a drone show featuring 1,000 synchronized drones, creating dynamic aerial imagery that depicted the implementation of flagship government schemes; a powerful demonstration of how technology is being used for public welfare in Telangana. The cultural experience was further enriched by live Indian instrumental music, offering the contestants a multi-sensory connection to the heritage of the region. A dedicated photo shoot session allowed the participants to capture memories against the backdrop of the Secretariat's modern architectural marvel. An event viewing gallery ensured that attendees could comfortably take in every aspect of the carefully choreographed event, which concluded with the stirring Indian National Anthem, evoking a sense of unity and pride. Julia Morley, CBE, Chairman and CEO of the Miss World Organization, praised the event, saying: 'Telangana has beautifully showcased its heritage and progressive spirit today. The integration of cultural elements with technological innovation provides our contestants with a profound understanding of the state's identity and aspirations.' This Secretariat visit is part of a wider series of engagements hosted by the Telangana government during the 72nd Miss World Festival, being held in Hyderabad from May 7 to May 31, 2025. These events aim to highlight Telangana's leadership in public safety, cultural heritage, tourism infrastructure, and its emergence as a vibrant destination on the global stage.
