Philadelphia police shoot, kill man after responding to domestic incident in Fairhill
Philadelphia police shot and killed a man in North Philadelphia's Fairhill neighborhood after responding to a domestic incident that led to a flurry of gunfire Friday evening, authorities said. First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford said just before 6 p.m., officers received a 911 call from a home on the 2900 block of Lawrence Street for a domestic incident involving an armed man. After arriving at the scene, officers went up to the residence and were immediately shot at by a 40-year-old man from inside the home, Stanford said. The suspect exited the home but continued to shoot at officers. Stanford said police retreated between parked cars on the street and exchanged gunfire with the suspect. Then the suspect got into a police car and closed the door, to which officers then thought he was possibly trying to take the vehicle. Officers approached the car, and the exchange of gunfire between the suspect and four officers continued, according to Stanford. CBS News Philadelphia The man got out of the car and fell to the ground. Officers then quickly apprehended him and brought him to Temple Hospital, where he died just before 6:30 p.m., Stanford said. None of the officers were struck; however, there were many shots fired. "If you see the amount of gunfire and how their police car is shot up, it's by the grace of God that we don't have, you know, a number of officers that were injured or killed in this," Stanford said. Police cars in Philadelphia are equipped with a special ballistic glass and door panels, and Stanford credited the technology in part with helping protect the officers while the suspect was firing at them from within the car. The suspect's gun was recovered from inside the police car. It's unclear if he was a resident at the home where police were initially called to investigate. Stanford said no one else suffered any injuries, but there were vehicles nearby that had their windows shattered by gunfire, and a home was also struck. The Philadelphia Police Department's Internal Affairs is investigating the shooting. This story will be updated as more information comes into our newsroom.

Shootings in Philadelphia Friday night leave 4 injured including 12-year-old girl, police say
Three separate shooting incidents in North Philadelphia left four people, including a 12-year-old girl, injured Friday night, police said. The first incident happened around 9:20 p.m. outside a corner store at 27th Street and Montgomery Avenue, Philadelphia police Inspector D F Pace said. When officers arrived to reports of gunshots, they found a man and rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he was "fighting for his life" as of early Saturday morning. Pace said surveillance video showed the victim was talking to a group of five or six men when three of them opened fire at very close range. They then fled in an unknown direction. 12-year-old girl hit by stray bullet in Philadelphia Less than half an hour later at 9:45 p.m., police were called to the 900 block of West Susquehanna Avenue for a report of a 12-year-old girl who had been shot. Police learned the girl was taken by her mother to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children after being shot in the back. Police located a scene and recovered shell casings from at least two different guns: a handgun, as well as a rifle. Pace said it appears that the girl was not the intended target. She is now listed in stable condition. 2 women hospitalized after gunshots at possible "pop-up party" About one hour later around 11 p.m. officers were called to the 2300 block of North 18th Street and found an 18-year-old woman who had been shot once in the stomach. She was taken to Temple Hospital in stable condition. A short time later, someone else drove a 21-year-old woman to Temple Hospital and officers learned she had been shot in the face at the same location as the younger woman. She is also stable. Pace said police believe this incident stemmed from a "pop-up party" with a large crowd of juveniles and young adults. Pace said there have been no arrests in any of these incidents, but investigators continue to comb through surveillance video as they gather evidence. 8 injured after SEPTA train crashes at Norristown Transportation Center
Eight people were injured after a SEPTA train crashed at the Norristown Transportation Center Sunday morning. A SEPTA spokesperson said the single-car Norristown High Speed Line train collided with the bumper at the end of the tracks around 10 a.m. on May 11. The train was reportedly traveling at about 10 miles per hour when the collision happened, SEPTA said. One of the eight passengers injured in the crash was airlifted to Temple Hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
