Express bus driver, three passengers issued summonses for not wearing seat belt
KUALA TERENGGANU: Only an express bus driver and three express bus passengers have been issued summonses for not wearing seat belts in Terengganu under a special operation by the Road Transport Department (RTD) nationwide since July 1. Terengganu RTD director Zamri Samion said a total of 85 express and tour buses were inspected during the period following the enforcement of the new directive, which makes compulsory the wearing of seat belts by drivers and passengers of express and tour buses. "We found the level of compliance was very good, where only four summonses were issued, to a bus driver and three express bus passengers," he said during the operation in Chendering near here, last night. To further increase awareness and compliance, Zamri said the department would hold a meeting with express bus and tour bus operators next week for more intensive advocacy purposes. "RTD will not compromise on any safety-related issues, and strict action will be taken against those who fail to comply with regulations and laws," he said. Eight luxury vehicles among 25 seized in Terengganu RTD Aidiladha ops
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) seized 25 vehicles, including eight luxury cars and a cargo lorry, during the Hari Raya Aidiladha Special Operation (Ops Khas HRAA) 2025 conducted here last night. Terengganu RTD director Mohd Zamri Samion said the vehicles were seized for various offences, including expired driving and motor vehicle licences, lack of insurance coverage, and multiple technical violations. Zamri said his team also seized a cargo lorry transporting a nitrogen-filled container due to the use of unsafe tyres during the two-day operation, which began on Wednesday. The vehicle, driven by a man in his 30s, was stopped at Kampung Padang Nenas, Kuala Nerus, at 7.20am on Thursday while travelling from Paka, Dungun to Tok Bali, Kelantan. "Checks revealed that seven of the vehicle's tyres were deemed unsafe as their treads were excessively worn out, with some tyres torn or punctured," he said. "This time, we also seized eight luxury vehicles, including a Hummer, Peugeot, Land Rover, and high-powered motorcycles, for technical offences, expired licences and failure to renew insurance and motor vehicle licences," he said. Mohd Zamri added that the department views technical violations seriously, particularly involving commercial vehicles and unsafe tyres. The week-long operation from Wednesday to next Tuesday aims to ensure smooth and safer traffic flow during the festive season, in line with the slogan "Drive Safe, Arrive Safe." "We are also taking motorcyclist offences seriously, especially not wearing helmets and running red lights, which recorded the highest number of offences during the first two days." As with previous operations, enforcement on the seven scheduled offences remains a priority to help reduce road crashes and fatalities throughout the period. "These include speeding, disobeying traffic signals, overtaking on double lines, driving on the emergency lane, reckless overtaking, queue-cutting, and using mobile phones while driving," he said. During the first two days of the operation, a total of 6,006 vehicles were inspected, with enforcement action taken against 529 of them for various violations. A total of 746 summonses and 370 other notices were issued, covering 1,052 offences.
