Monty Python items from final live show up for auction
More than 60 of the lots are from Monty Python Live (Mostly) at London's O2 arena in 2014, which is thought to be the last time the troupe will perform together. Bidding is open now and remains so for just less than three weeks. What is Monty Python? Formed in 1969, the Monty Python comedy troupe was made up of Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Sir Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam. The group's rise in prominence and popularity came through the BBC sketch comedy series Monty Python's Flying Circus, which aired from 1969 to 1974. They went on to create films, musicals, albums, books and musicals. Chapman died of cancer in 1989, and Jones died in 2020. The group, minus Chapman, put on their final show in 2024 at the O2. Attention, noble peasants: the #MontyPythonandtheHolyGrail Limited Edition 4K UHD SteelBook is available to pre-order via Pre-order now or we shall taunt you a second time ⚔️ Coming August 26. — Monty Python (@montypython) June 13, 2025 Sir Michael said: 'Monty Python Live (Mostly) at the O2 was the show to end all Python shows. "None of us had ever experienced an audience reaction on that scale, proving conclusively that it is possible to be silly after 70. 'We couldn't better that show and since the sad death of Terry Jones, we must admit that the O2 show was Python's farewell.' Monty Python items from final live show being auctioned off Sir Michael said he hopes some of the costumes and props, which are being auctioned online, can be passed on to their 'greatest and most loyal fans'. Among the outfits up for sale are Gilliam's 'I've Got Two Legs' costume and exploding stomach, Idle's 'Galaxy Song' suit and globe, Cleese's albatross costume and wig and a dress worn by actress Carol Cleveland. Props include a spam menu from the 'spam' sketch, a lifelike llama, and a fake dead parrot and bird cage. Recommended reading: Stephen Lane, chief executive of Propstore, which is auctioning the lots, said: 'Monty Python's legacy is truly unrivalled – they've been a comedy touchstone for generations of fans across the globe. 'Propstore's auction gives fans and collectors from around the world an incredible one-of-a-kind opportunity to own a piece of their historic final reunion, along with rare treasures from the personal archive of the brilliant and beloved Python, Terry Gilliam.' The auction is online and bidding is open until Sunday, July 20.

Monty Python Returns With Several Albums At The Same Time
Monty Python returns to the Billboard Comedy Albums chart as The Contractual Obligation Album and ... More Monty Python and the Holy Grail reenter at Nos. 6 and 7 in the U.S. Monty Python gang Terry Jones, John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, Terry Gilliam, Los Angeles, May 16th, 1975. (Photo by) The comedians who made Monty Python, the beloved British comedy group, are best remembered for their visual media like television and film, but the troupe also released multiple albums throughout the years. Together, the talented writers and performers reached the Billboard charts several times with a number of full-length collections. While the comedy troupe has not released a new album in many years, it sees multiple projects return to the same Billboard ranking this frame in America. Monty Python Brings Two Albums Back Two of Monty Python's releases manage to sit side by side on the one tally where they currently appear in the United States. The performers see both The Contractual Obligation Album and Monty Python and the Holy Grail: The Album of the Soundtrack of the Trailer return to the Comedy Albums chart this week. Those titles reenter at Nos. 6 and 7, respectively. Monty Python's Albums Peaked in the Same Spot Both of Monty Python's titles that are present on the Comedy Albums ranking this frame have peaked as high as No. 5. While the collections may have stalled in the same space, their journeys on the list of the most consumed comedy releases in the U.S. differ when it comes to longevity. The Contractual Obligation Album has only managed seven stays somewhere on the tally, while The Album of the Soundtrack of the Trailer has appeared 113 times throughout the years. Monty Python Joins Weird Al and Tenacious D Monty Python is the only act that fills multiple spaces on the Comedy Albums chart at the moment. The group joins several well-known figures in that space, such as Tenacious D, Lil Dicky, and 'Weird Al' Yankovic, who all regularly appear on the roster as well. Both of Monty Python's current successes were released decades ago, but remain favorites among a diehard group of fans. The Album of the Soundtrack of the Trailer arrived in 1975 — half a century ago — while The Contractual Obligation Album dropped in 1980.

One of Powys' best stargazing pubs the Star Inn reopening
One of the most remote pubs in Wales that is renowned for being the best for stargazing has revealed that it will be reopening to visitors for the first time in years. Tucked away in the Cambrian Mountains above the Clywedog reservoir between Llanidloes and Machynlleth, the aptly named Star Inn in Dylife will be welcoming back customers for a well-earned pint later next month. Its owners have said the pub will reopen its doors from Friday, July 25,and will also be serving food. In an announcement made on social media, the pub said it aims to be a "focal point for the community and to reach far and wide". RECOMMENDED READING "After what seems like a lifetime, The Star Inn will once again rise, high above the surrounding area, this famous old drovers hostelry will be opening its doors once again!" the pub said. "We will be serving food, and the bar will be open. "Understandably with a few tweaks to ensure everything we do is viable. "A fresh lick of paint, deep cleaned, and décor to reflect our unique setting. "It really is an exciting time!" Customers have been told that there are "so many plans in the pipelines, some very unique" to keep an eye out for. The pub also announced that it will be taking bookings for private parties, birthdays, tours, small weddings, meetings and more. The Star Inn will be open from 12pm to 9.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with food served from midday until 8pm. The pub will serve food on Sunday from 12pm to 3pm, before closing at 5pm. The Star Inn dates back to the 17th Century, and was popular with walkers, cyclists and celebrities like Cerys Matthews and the late Terry Jones before it was put up for sale in 2021. Surrounded by stunning scenery of the Cambrian Mountains, and only a stone's throw away from Llyn Clywedog, the was awarded Dark Sky Discovery Site status in 2019. After the pub was sold, Powys County Council granted the new owners permission last year to site a caravan and three glamping domes. To get to The Star Inn, visitors need to take the B4518 road and turn-off onto the 'mountain road' which eventually leads to Machynlleth. Dylife was once a thriving mining community of more than 1,000 people. At the height of the lead mining industry in the 19th Century, there were four inns, several chapels, a church and a school - which have now nearly all disappeared.

Post your questions for Eric Idle
What's your enduring image of Eric Idle? Is it him cheerily singing Always Look on the Bright Side of Life from a crucifix? Nudge-nudge, wink-winking Terry Jones down the pub? Or struggling with his habit alongside Robbie Coltrane in Nuns on the Run? Now 82, Idle is one of the most beloved comedians Britain has produced, an alumni of Cambridge Footlights, Monty Python and the Rutles, who became perhaps the most Americanised of the troupe after moving there permanently in the 1970s. Post-Python he was in films including The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), Splitting Heirs (1993), Casper (1995), The Wind in the Willows (1996), An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn (1997), Ella Enchanted (2004) and Shrek the Third (2007). In 2005, Spamalot, his musical adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, debuted on Broadway to enormous critical and commercial success, adding Tonys and Grammys to Idle's already busy mantelpiece. A vocal critic of the current US administration on X, Idle is returning to the UK for a tour in September – his first for 52 years. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, Live! is a nostalgic one-man musical including 'comedy, music, philosophy and one fart joke'. Idle was born in South Shields in 1943, and raised largely by his grandmother, after his mother fell into a depression following the death of her husband, who was killed in a road traffic accident while hitchhiking home after the second world war in 1945. Idle went to a tough boarding school in Wolverhampton aged seven, where he was unhappy but became head boy and got into Cambridge. As 1965 Footlights President, he was the first to allow women into the club, and became the Pythons' musical specialist and also its only solo writer – John Cleese and Graham Chapman preferring to pair up, alongside Jones and Michael Palin. Their comedy series Flying Circus ran for five years until 1974, while the films (Holy Grail, Life of Brian and Meaning of Life) extended the run until 1983. Idle's affectionate Beatles parody, the Rutles, was a huge success in the US, where Idle was also a frequent host of Saturday Night Live. Other projects included voice work on the likes of South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, a staged reading of his play What About Dick?, the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics, US tours, assorted Gilbert and Sullivan productions, and season eight of The Masked Singer (as Hedgehog). Idle was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2019 and has since made a full recovery. He has an asteroid named in his honour – and has fronted shows alongside the scientist Brian Cox – and objects to the term 'atheist' as it suggests there may be a God not to believe in. In 2022, he spoke to the Guardian's Simon Hattenstone about his relationship with the surviving Pythons, as well as the deaths of his great friends George Harrison and Robin Williams and his concerns about the prospect of Donald Trump's re-election. 'We've gone back to the time of the dictators,' he said. 'You need to have presidential candidates subject to psychological testing. 'You're an insane narcissist; you have no business being in charge of a teapot.' They are undiagnosed monsters, that's the problem.' Send us your questions for Idle by 20 June and we'll publish his answers – alongside responses by some famous friends and colleagues – on 11 July.
