Residents ‘shocked' by daytime gunplay in southwest neighbourhood
Residents in Terwillegar say the neighbourhood is nearly back to normal after a shooting prompted police to lock down part of the area while they chased suspect Residents in Terwillegar say the neighbourhood is nearly back to normal after a shooting prompted police to lock down part of the area while they chased suspects. CTV News Edmonton's Connor Hogg reports. Residents living close to a scene where shots were fired on a typically quiet, dead-end road are surprised it happened in their southwest Edmonton neighbourhood. Police have two males in custody after a vehicle on 156 Street just north of South Terwillegar Boulevard had its back window shot out on Monday afternoon while parked alongside a condominium complex. Officers chased the males to Cameron Heights on the other side of the North Saskatchewan River. The males fled their vehicle on foot before police caught them in the neighbourhood's namesake ravine. Residents said police had closed off 156 Street for a few hours on Monday afternoon. Sarah Chaplan told CTV News Edmonton she was picking her child up from a nearby church camp when she came across it. 'I was a little bit shocked,' Chaplan said. 'You expect to see these things in other neighbourhoods. You don't expect to see this in this area.' Charlene Cook, whose children often play in the yard and walk around the neighbourhood, said news of the incident is 'really scary.' 'Terwillegar is one of the safest neighbourhoods in the city. This is why we bought here ... It is unsettling,' Cook said. Edmonton police said charges against the two males are pending. With files from CTV News Edmonton's Connor Hogg and Dave Mitchell
