Microsoft Build 2025: What to expect, from Azure to Copilot upgrades

Microsoft is hosting its annual Build developer conference next week from May 19 to 22. The event is guaranteed to include announcements regarding new AI integrations, services, and apps, including for Windows. At last year's Build, Microsoft announced an integration of Copilot into Microsoft Teams, Copilot+ AI-powered PCs, Windows Volumetric Apps for Meta Quest headsets, and more. The keynotes will be streamed online for free. As for what to expect, there is good reason to believe Microsoft will announce deeper integrations for its Copilot generative AI with many of its software offerings, both on the consumer and enterprise sides. The company last November raised prices for many of its software products, including Windows 365, Office 365, and Microsoft 365, among many others, by 5%. To justify these increases, the company could introduce new AI-powered features and capabilities. Copilot is likely to be a headliner at Build, and big changes to it could be on the way. Microsoft is reportedly testing alternative AI models from xAI, Meta, Anthropic, and DeepSeek as possible replacements for OpenAI technology in Copilot as the relationship between Microsoft and OpenAI becomes strained. On Windows, Copilot could gain "agentic" functionality that allows the tech to perform basic PC tasks autonomously. Well-known leaker TestingCatalog found references to an Action button in the Copilot client for Windows that, when selected, can kick off certain "everyday tasks." Microsoft is also said to have developed a family of models called MAI that are competitive with OpenAI's own, which the tech giant is considering offering through an API. Build may well end up being the venue where Microsoft decides to unveil these. The company could also announce a follow-up to its Azure Maia 100 AI Accelerator, a custom AI chip for Microsoft's Azure cloud service. Rumors of a "Maia 2" bubbled up on social media last week; chipmaker Marvell is contracted to manufacture it, according to semiconductor analyst Ray Wang. Google Gemini might soon offer two new AI subscription plans

Google's Gemini is set to fully replace Google Assistant on all platforms by the end of 2025, leveraging its advanced AI capabilities for a wide range of tasks. While many Gemini features are free, the current paid Gemini Advanced tier offers enhanced benefits like access to advanced models, larger context windows, and extended usage limits. Evidence from code suggests Google is developing two new, potentially higher-tier AI subscription plans, possibly named "Premium Plus" and "Premium Pro," which could offer access to "Gemini Pro" and "Gemini Ultra" with increased or unlimited feature usage. In a little over two years, Google's Gemini, which started out as Bard, has become the tech giant's go-to AI and assistant tool. From offering answers to simple queries and helping you brainstorm to interacting with other apps and services and generating code and images, the AI tool is what Google Assistant could never really be. That's precisely why Google has decided to completely phase out Google Assistant on all surfaces by the end of 2025. Although most Gemini features are free for users to use, new introductions are often limited to those who pay for Gemini Advanced — at least during the new feature's initial launch window. Additionally, the paid subscription also offers extended limits across the board, including on some of Gemini's latest models (like the Gemini 2.5 Pro), bigger file uploads, larger context windows, extra 'Deep Research' uses, and more. Currently, Gemini Advanced is a value proposition for those who gain access to it for free with their new smartphone, or for power users that utilize Gemini for their everyday work-related needs. Now, likely in a bid to offer those power users more options to choose from, Google appears to be expanding its AI subscription offerings with two new plans, and they could be called 'Premium Plus' and 'Premium Pro.' The new plans could reportedly unlock access to 'Gemini Pro' and 'Gemini Ultra,' as highlighted in a report by TestingCatalog (via Android Authority) after digging into code snippets. While it's not entirely clear what the plans and access to the Pro and Ultra Gemini versions could entail, code suggests that it these models could be upsold to Gemini users when they reach specific limits. "You've reached your limit of generated videos. Try again [after X days] or upgrade to Gemini Ultra," reads one instance. Whether the new tiers would offer higher limits than those currently offered to Advanced users is also uncertain. It could also be that the new tiers forgo other Google One benefits like extra storage and Workspace Premium features in favor of just expanded Gemini access, potentially coming in at a cheaper price than the current $20 users pay for Gemini Advanced. The new plans seem to be a work in progress, though Gemini Ultra, at least, is reportedly already making its way to some users as an upsell prompt. Google is yet to formally detail the announcement, though its upcoming I/O or Android Show could be potential venues for the unveiling.

ChatGPT could soon let you shop while you chat, here's how Shopify is making it happen

Shopify and ChatGPT OpenAI's ChatGPT , widely known for its advanced conversational abilities and growing user base exceeding 800 million, may soon evolve from an informational assistant into an active e-commerce participant. According to recently uncovered, unreleased code discovered by Testing Catalog , a new feature is in the works that could allow users to browse, compare, and purchase items from Shopify merchants directly within the ChatGPT interface. The update would allow for embedded pricing, user reviews, shipping details, and checkout—all without ever leaving the chat environment. If launched, this capability could dramatically shift the landscape of digital commerce by integrating AI-powered product recommendations with seamless transactions, positioning ChatGPT as both advisor and storefront. Shop directly in ChatGPT: Shopify integration could revolutionise shopping experience The potential integration centers on Shopify's direct access within ChatGPT's chat window, as per reports. Currently, when users ask ChatGPT for shopping recommendations—such as the best trail running shoes—the chatbot provides a list of options with links to external sites. The new feature described in the unreleased code takes this functionality further. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Google Brain Co-Founder Andrew Ng, Recommends: Read These 5 Books And Turn Your Life Around Blinkist: Andrew Ng's Reading List Undo According to the code findings, ChatGPT could soon display product cards directly within the conversation, offering detailed listings that include: Real-time pricing Customer reviews and ratings Shipping options and delivery estimates A 'Buy Now' button for immediate purchase Critically, the transaction process would be conducted entirely within ChatGPT, eliminating the need to redirect users to third-party websites. How Shopify integration in ChatGPT could work for users If deployed, this shopping feature would drastically streamline the customer journey. Rather than navigating through different retail websites, users would be able to: Ask ChatGPT for product advice. View curated product options from Shopify merchants. Compare prices and reviews without leaving the chat. Make purchases directly in the conversation interface. This represents a major departure from the traditional e-commerce model, reducing the number of steps between interest and conversion. For consumers, the benefit is in the convenience; for merchants, it's in the exposure and sales potential. Implications for Shopify sellers Shopify hosts millions of merchants, many of whom face significant challenges in driving traffic to their storefronts. Currently, small business owners often rely on: Search engine optimization (SEO) Paid social media advertising Influencer partnerships Viral content marketing Integrating with ChatGPT could dramatically alter this dynamic. If Shopify listings are surfaced in direct response to product-related prompts, merchants could see significant increases in both visibility and conversion rates. The AI assistant's ability to recommend products based on user context and preferences offers sellers a unique opportunity: to place their offerings in front of highly targeted and ready-to-buy audiences. Entering the arena of agentic commerce The move represents a significant step into what is increasingly being referred to as "agentic commerce"—a future in which AI agents not only provide information but actively facilitate decisions and transactions on behalf of users. OpenAI is not alone in exploring this space: Microsoft recently announced its Copilot Merchant Program, allowing retail integration within its AI tools. Perplexity AI is rolling out its own 'Buy with Pro' shopping feature embedded within its search capabilities. By embedding commerce within conversation, these platforms are transitioning from informational tools into full-fledged retail ecosystems. A broader vision for ChatGPT The Shopify integration also fits into a broader strategy by OpenAI to expand ChatGPT's functional utility. Recent experiments with 'Operator agents'—AI programs that can browse the web and perform tasks—indicate a long-term vision where ChatGPT becomes not just a recommendation engine but an action-oriented assistant. Until now, the platform's value was largely knowledge-based: helping users research topics, structure writing, or draft messages. This evolution into transaction execution represents a shift in both user expectations and technological capability. Challenges and considerations While promising, such a rollout would also raise several logistical and technical considerations: Security and data privacy for in-chat purchases must meet stringent standards. Merchant vetting and product curation would be essential to maintain quality control. User interface design will need to accommodate commercial interactions without overwhelming the conversational experience. Furthermore, the impact on affiliate marketing, digital advertising, and retail logistics remains to be seen, as traditional models could be disrupted by this new method of product discovery and purchasing.
