LSU baseball outfielder transfers to Tigers' major SEC rival
Hook Em! @TexasBaseball A former LSU baseball outfielder found a new home within the SEC. Ashton Larson transferred to Texas, per a post on social media. According to a report, the Longhorns joined Larson's recruiting process recently and pulled him away from multiple offers out of the Big 12. They gained a promising young outfielder who had a limited role during LSU's national title campaign in 2025. Larson spent two seasons in Baton Rouge, hitting .289 with a .439 slugging percentage. He appeared in 87 games, recording five home runs and 32 runs. As a true freshman, he made 40 starts but couldn't find the same role in 2025 with the arrivals of Derek Curiel and Chris Stanfield. LSU returns its entire starting outfield from the recent national title run. With another talented freshman class coming in and multiple highly touted transfers, it was unlikely Larson would cement a starting role. In 2024, Larson made the All-SEC freshman team. He came to LSU as the No. 13 outfielder and No. 78 overall player in his recruiting class, per Perfect Game.

Texas baseball vs UTSA game score: Live updates as Longhorns fall behind in NCAA regional
With its season on the line, the Texas baseball team will look for some regional revenge. Texas and UTSA are set to meet at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday night in the Austin Regional final. This is the third game between Texas and UTSA this season. UTSA bested Texas in 12 innings back on March 18, and then recorded a 9-7 win in the winners bracket on Saturday. Since Texas (44-13) has lost once in the Austin Regional and UTSA (46-13) is undefeated, the Longhorns will have to beat the Roadrunners tonight and again on Monday in order to advance to a super regional. UTSA, which before Friday's 10-2 triumph against Kansas State had never before won a game in the NCAA Tournament, will move on with just one more win. Stay tuned for live updates. Desperate to keep UTSA from running away with this game, Texas called closer Dylan Volantis out of the bullpen during the fifth inning. Volantis pitched three innings against UTSA on Saturday night. Volantis recorded two outs in the fifth frame. Texas got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning on Casey Borba's RBI double. A fly ball to right field, however, ended the inning and stranded two runners in scoring position. Texas had a change to cut more into its deficit, but UTSA centerfielder Mason Lytle showed why he was named the American Athletic Conference's defensive player of the year. Lytle made a diving catch near the wall to rob Jalin Flores of an extra-base hit and keep Borba on second base. Before Texas made its second pitching change of the evening, Ethan Walker hit the last two UTSA batters he was asked to face. The second plunking occurred with the bases loaded so UTSA extended its lead to 3-0. After Walker's exit, UTSA shortstop Ty Hodge greeted Max Grubbs with a bases-clearing double. Mason Lytle later brought Hodge home with a RBI single. Texas ended up hitting three batters during the third inning, and the Longhorns have 102 HBPs this season. Since 1967, Texas had hit 70 batters once (85 HBP in 2002). Texas ran its way out of a scoring opportunity in the third inning. The Longhorns had runners on first and second base with one out when Kimble Schuessler stung a ball to the warning track in right field. UTSA outfielder James Taussig made a nice catch, and the Roadrunners were then able to get a tagging Rylan Galvan out at third base. It appears that Texas will use a piecemeal pitching plan tonight. After Hudson Hamilton started and allowed a two-run homer in the first inning, Ethan Walker opened the second inning on the mound for Texas. Walker started and pitched 1 ⅔ innings in UT's regional opener on Friday. Thanks to two free passes and an error, UTSA got runners to the corners against Walker in the second inning. But a harmless fly ball to right field ended the threat. Behind a big swing from Norris McClure, the Roadrunners have struck first. The UTSA third baseman hammered a Hudson Hamilton offering over the fence in right field for a two-run highlight. Two of Norris' six homers this season have been hit at UFCU Disch-Falk Field this weekend. He also went deep in UTSA's regional opener against Kansas State. After stranding 14 runners on base last night, Texas again struggled to find a clutch hit against UTSA. Ethan Mendoza and Rylan Galvan led off the game with singles but UTSA starter Gunnar Brown got outs out of the next three at-bats. A strikeout of Adrian Rodriguez left Mendoza on third base. End 6: UTSA 8, Texas 6 After Kimble Schuessler led off the sixth inning with a four-pitch walk, UTSA made a call to its bullpen for Braylon Owens. A 14-time starter, Owens was making his sixth relief appearance of the season. Advertisement Owens walked the first batter he saw, but Jalin Flores failed to execute a bunt and Will Gasparino then struck out. To end the inning, Jonah Williams was caught looking at a full-count strike from Owens. Texas closer Dylan Volantis will enter the game in the top of the seventh inning as the Longhorns try to keep UTSA from pulling away. Mid 6: UTSA 8, Texas 6 Upon entering the game and inheriting a two-out, two-runner jam, Texas reliever Thomas Burns threw three fastballs that were clocked at 98, 98 and 100 miles-per-hour. Facing a 1-2 count, Nathan Hodge then smacked a 97 miles-per-hour offering into centerfield for the game-tying single. Advertisement Hitting out of the No. 9 spot in the UTSA batting order, Hodge is 2-for-3 today with three RBIs and two runs scored. Mason Lytle and Garrett Gruell followed up Hodge's heroics with run-scoring hits into left field. The inning ended with a play at the plate that led to a review and words being exchanged between the two teams. After building a 6-1 lead, Texas now trails for the first time today. End 5: Texas 6, UTSA 5 Texas had a chance to respond to UTSA's offensive outburst but came up empty. After Rylan Galvan was hit by a Kendall Dove pitch to load the bases with two outs, Max Belyeu was brought to the plate. But Belyeu, the No. 3 batter in the UT lineup and the 2024 Big 12 Player of the Year, struck out on three pitches. Mid 5: Texas 6, UTSA 5 The Roadrunners cut into the Texas lead during a big fifth inning. Nathan Hodge produced a two-run single from the No. 9 spot in the UTSA batting order and later scored as teammate Mason Lytle attempted to steal second base. UTSA also got an RBI double from James Taussig in an inning that featured a pitching change. Max Grubbs is now pitching for Texas. Starter Luke Harrison allowed four hits over 4 ⅓ innings, but he hit two batters and issued a walk. End 4: Texas 6, UTSA 1 Both Texas and UTSA got a runner to second base in the fourth inning. But neither team could add to their scores. End 3: Texas 6, UTSA 1 Adrian Rodriguez broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning when his bases-loaded groundout scored Rylan Galvan, who had led off the third inning with a walk. Jonah Williams later produced a bases-loaded single into right field that scored two of his teammates, and Casey Borba's second double of the game brought home another run. Williams capped the inning by scoring on a wild pitch. With one out in the third inning, UTSA went to its bullpen and replaced starter Conor Myles with Connor Kelley. Williams and Borba produced their run-scoring hits against Kelley. End 2: UTSA 1, Texas 1 Texas had a chance to retake the lead in the second inning but came up short. A two-out double by Casey Borba put runners on second and third base, but Ethan Mendoza flied out to right field to end the game. Mid 2: UTSA 1, Texas 1 Aided by a Texas error, UTSA quickly moved two runners into scoring position in the top of the second inning. A fly ball into left field was then deep enough to score Lorenzo Morresi and tie the game. Advertisement Of more interest to UTSA in that inning was the status of all-conference shortstop Ty Hodge, who was thrown out by left fielder Jonah Williams at third base on the run-scoring flyout. Hodge appeared to hurt his shoulder on the play and was helped off the field. He will remain in the game. End 1: Texas 1, UTSA 0 Texas has seized an early lead at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Kimble Schuessler's RBI groundout scored Rylan Galvan in the first inning. Texas is 27-4 this season when it scores first. Mid 1: UTSA 0, Texas 0 After getting the first two batters of the evening to fly out to center field, Texas starter Luke Harrison hit James Taussig with a pitch.
