Texas Loses Out on 2026 Four-Star OT Malakai Lee

Texas Loses Out on 2026 Four-Star OT Malakai Lee originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Texas has been pushing hard for four-star offensive tackle Malakai Lee over the last few weeks. Michigan has been the long-time favorite in his recruitment, but On3's Steve Wiltfong reported that the Longhorns were "closing the gap" as of late. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Lee announced his commitment to the Wolverines on Friday. He chose Michigan over Texas, Alabama, and Georgia. Advertisement The Honolulu native is ranked the No. 10 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 2 overall prospect in Hawaii, according to 247Sports composite. Lee took an official visit to Texas on June 6 while Michigan received his final official visit on June 20. It's very likely Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach Kyle Flood will continue pursuing Lee until pen hits the paper. As it stands now, the Longhorns have two offensive line commits for the 2026 class in three-star offensive tackle Max Wright and three-star interior offensive lineman Nicolas Robertson. Lee's massive 6-foot-7, 310-pound frame saw him coveted from just about every powerhouse program in the country. Aside from the four finalists, he also held offers from schools like USC, Oregon, Tennessee and Miami. Advertisement Texas currently holds the No. 11 recruiting class in the country with 15 total commits. The Longhorns are trending for several other blue-chip prospects that could announce their decisions in the near future. Texas Trending for Several More Five-Star Recruits in 2026 Class

Texas Trending for Several More Five-Star Recruits in 2026 Class originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns made a splash on the recruiting trail last weekend. The Longhorns hosted a few big recruiting weekends throughout the month of June and the early returns from the visits were overwhelmingly positive. Steve Sarkisian's staff earned the commitments of four-star defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland and five-star edge Richard Wesley last weekend and more could be on the way. Advertisement According to On3's Steve Wiltfong, Texas is trending the right direction for several blue-chip recruits in the 2026 class. Five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo and four-star interior offensive lineman John Turntine are both expected to land in Austin. Turntine is the No. 1 interior offensive lineman in the country per On3's industry ranking. © Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Texas is also emerging as the favorite for a few top defensive recruits. Wiltfong lists four-star edge Trenton Henderson, four-star defensive lineman Kendall Guervil, four-star edge Jamarion Carlton and four-star linebacker Kosi Okpala as players that the Longhorns appear to be in good standing with. One of Texas' priority targets, five-star linebacker/edge Xavier Griffin, appears to be leaning toward Alabama but Sarkisian's staff is pushing hard to land the Georgia native ahead of his June 29 commitment date. Advertisement The Longhorns currently have the No. 10 overall class for the 2026 cycle. If Texas can land a few more five-star players, its possible Sarkisian could bring in back-to-back No. 1 classes. Steve Sarkisian Sends Strong Three-Word Message on Texas

Steve Sarkisian Sends Strong Three-Word Message on Texas originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Why not play for the Texas Longhorns? Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian certainly made a compelling pitch for high school athletes across the country to consider the Longhorns. Sarkisian joined the 3rd & Longhorn podcast this week, hosted by several former Texas players, and discussed what makes his football program and the university itself so great. Advertisement "If I know nothing, who's the one school that's gone to back-to-back College Football Playoffs and back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinals?," Sarkisian began. "Who is the one school their first year in the SEC went to the SEC Championship Game? Who has the most draft picks in the NFL Draft the last two years? Who's had six defensive lineman drafted in the last three years and five running backs drafted in the last three years?" Sarkisian didn't stop there. He kept spewing off numerous accolades Texas has reached over the last few years. "Who's had a receiver taken in the first round the last two years? Who has, last year, signed the No. 1 class in the country? The year before that a top-three class in the country," Sarkisian said. Advertisement "All the while, that's occurring at a top-five public institution in the United States. All the while, being part of an athletic department that has won four of the last five Director's Cups." The podcast interview quickly made its rounds on social media and Sarkisian had a simple three-word response. "The Total Package," he said. Sarkisian could potentially land another No. 1 in 2026 as the Longhorns are currently trending for several other five-star prospects. On Sunday, On3's Chad Simmons logged a prediction for Texas to land four-star defensive lineman Kendall Guervil. Guervil is a native of Fort Myers, Florida, and attends Fort Myers High School. He is listed at a whopping 6-foot-4.5, 315 pounds. He also holds offers from the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, Miami Hurricanes, USC Trojans and others. Texas Dealt Unfortunate Recruiting News on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns have high expectations for their second season in the SEC, following a trip to the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff. Advertisement While Texas had a good season, it was not enough to secure the commitment of an in-state talent. On3's Hayes Fawcett reported that four-star cornerback Chace Calicut committed to the Georgia Bulldogs over Texas and the Michigan Wolverines. Texas and Georgia both hosted Calicut for an official visit this month. The Longhorns had the most recent visit on June 20, while the Bulldogs' visit was on June 6. Calicut comes in at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds and is a native of Houston, Texas. Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian.
