Alabama basketball learns 2025 Players Era Festival opponents, draws wild start time
Alabama basketball will spend the final week in the month of November in Las Vegas at the Players Era Festival for the second year in a row. The first college basketball event driven solely by NIL launched last November with Alabama one of the initial eight teams to play across a week-long stay in Sin City over Thanksgiving Week. The plan was always for Alabama to return to Vegas in 2025, and on Tuesday the Crimson Tide learned two opponents they'll face in this year's Players Era Festival. Alabama will play Gonzaga on Nov. 24 and UNLV on Nov. 25. Dylan Burkhardt of first reported the news, later confirmed by multiple outlets. The Crimson Tide will play a third game later in the week in Las Vegas against a team yet to be determined before returning to Tuscaloosa to continue its nonconference schedule. Moreover, Alabama's scheduled start time for its matchup against UNLV on Nov. 25 is something of a wild one. The Tide and Rebels will tip off at 11 p.m. CT from Vegas. Alabama faces Gonzaga on Nov. 24 at 8:30 p.m. CT. A year ago, Alabama picked up a memorable 85-80 overtime win over Houston, plus a 95-90 victory over Rutgers in the Players Era Festival. The Tide lost the tournament's title game to Oregon, 83-81. The Players Era Festival has expanded from eight to 18 teams for 2025. Auburn, Tennessee, Kansas, Michigan and St. John's are among 11 new teams participating in this year's tournament. Adding Gonzaga and Rutgers to Alabama's already expansive nonconference schedule will make an even stronger case that Nate Oats has the single most difficult schedule in the nation in 2025-26. The Crimson Tide will also face St. John's, Purdue, Illinois, Arizona and Clemson in separate nonconference games before the SEC portion of the schedule tips off in January. UNC Basketball face off against Big 12 school in exhibition game
Thanks to another strong incoming high school recruiting class, combined with a significantly-improved transfer portal class, the UNC basketball team has a strong outlook heading into its 2025-2026 season. The crown jewel of North Carolina's 2025 recruiting class is 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson, who committed to Hubert Davis' program in January. Lacking height on their roster last year, the Tar Heels snagged a pair of tall, talented post players in Henri Veesaar and Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson. Advertisement We also know a little bit about UNC's schedule, with a few non-conference matchups released for this fall. North Carolina will play both St. Bonaventure and Michigan State in the Fort Myers (Fla.) Tip-Off during Thanksgiving Week, travel to Kentucky for the ACC-SEC Challenge on December 2, then travel to Atlanta (Ga.) for a CBS Sports Classic matchup with Ohio State. On Friday afternoon, the Tar Heels released another teaser for their 2025-2026 schedule: an October 24 exhibition game in Salt Lake City, Utah against the BYU Cougars. BYU, which is coming off a Sweet 16 appearance in March, should be one of the top teams across college basketball this coming season. The Cougars fared well in the transfer portal themselves, but their top roster highlight will be AJ Dybantsa. Ranked the Class of 2025's top recruit, Dybantsa chose BYU over UNC during his recruiting cycle. Advertisement This is the second-consecutive season North Carolina will open its season with a high-profile exhibition matchup. The Tar Heels traveled to face the Memphis Tigers on October 15, 2024, a 84-76 victory highlighted by Seth Trimble's 33-point outburst. Lions' 2025 schedule release video pays homage to Detroit
Lions' 2025 schedule release video pays homage to Detroit The Detroit Lions' in-house media team released their 2025 schedule in a video posted to social media on Wednesday. The video featured drone shots of several Detroit landmarks, such as Ford Field and the Spirit of Detroit. Each shot was accompanied by a date and matchup for the upcoming year. The video makeup represents a stark contrast in content strategy compared to the 2024 schedule release, which featured "Detroiters" and I Think You Should Leave" stars Tim Robinson and Sam Richardson. The trend for most teams around the league for the last few years, including this one, was to release their schedules accompanied by skits, celebrity appearances, or other creative means. Perhaps this video by the Lions represents an all-business attitude headed into what will feel like a Super Bowl-or-bust type of season. In any case, it pays tribute to the city that backs this team so passionately. Here is the full schedule released by the Lions on Wednesday: Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 7 at Packers — 4:25 p.m ET (CBS)Week 2: Sunday, Sept. 14 vs. Bears — 1 p.m. ET (FOX)Week 3: Monday, Sept. 22 at Ravens — 8:15 p.m. ET (ESPN/ABC)Week 4: Sunday, Sept. 28 vs. Browns — 1 p.m ET (FOX)Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 5 at Bengals — 4:25 p.m ET (FOX)Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 12 at Chiefs — 8:25 p.m. ET (NBC)Week 7: Monday, Oct. 20 vs. Buccaneers — 7 p.m. ET (ESPN/ABC)Week 8: BYEWeek 9: Sunday, Nov. 2 vs. Vikings — 1 p.m ET (FOX)Week 10: Sunday, Nov. 9 at Commander — 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX)Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 16 at Eagles — 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC)Week 12: Sunday, Nov. 23 vs. Giants — 1 p.m. ET (FOX)Week 13: Thursday, Nov. 27 vs. Packers — 1 p.m. ET (FOX) — ThanksgivingWeek 14: Thursday, Dec. 4 vs. Cowboys — 8:15 p.m. ET (Prime)Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 14 at Rams — 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX)Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 21 vs. Steelers — 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS)Week 17: Thursday, Dec. 25 at Vikings — 4:30 p.m. ET (Netflix)Week 18: TBD at Bears
