Mum-of-two Melissa Hartman revived after suffering cardiac arrest
Don't miss out on the headlines from Heart Health. Followed categories will be added to My News. Melissa Hartman was 31 years old when her heart suddenly stopped while she was getting ready for a date one August afternoon. The mother-of-two had no idea that she had suffered a cardiac arrest and flatlined for 20 minutes after a coughing fit. 'I was a bit nervous for the date but not nervous enough to have a bloody cardiac arrest,' the now 35-year-old told The Advertiser. Luckily, Ms Hartman organised for a friend to visit before her date and he arrived just as she collapsed. 'He found me on the floor, I had no pulse and had stopped breathing,' she said. 'He was straight onto the CPR.' Paramedics arrived and administered seven shocks of a defibrillator and three rounds of adrenaline to stabilise Ms Hartman. With a less than one per cent chance of survival, she was placed into an induced coma at Flinders Hospital for a week. 'For the first 48 hours, nobody expected me to survive at all,' she said. Despite all odds, the Christie Downs woman made it. But when she flatlined, on the floor her home she said she had a 'death experience' and saw a 'white light'. 'It was so bloody peaceful and calm and I wasn't even tired, it was just amazing,' she said. 'That was a miracle in itself, not feeling exhausted and chronically fatigued.' She said since being revived she's attempted to feel that again. Following her episode, Ms Hartman refers to the day as her 'birthday'. 'I've come back for a reason,' she said. She said by calling it her 'birthday' it allows the people closest to her to feel better about it. 'Mum still has it in her mind, (as) when she got the call,' she said. 'It helps her heal.' Eventually, when Ms Hartman was brought out of a coma she was transferred to ICU. Doctors eventually discovered two benign brain tumours — which are still present. She also spent six weeks in Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre where she learnt how to walk, talk, eat and read again after suffering a brain injury. 'After only a week in the coma, I'd lost everything — I had to learn who my kids were again,' she said. Ms Hartman, who is a single mum, said her children, Ayla, 8 and Mason, 11, were the reason she pushed through rehabilitation. She said she didn't want to have a carer 'raise' her children. 'If I didn't have my kids, I'd still be in a bed in hospital now,' she said. 'I'm not going to have my kids watching me lay down and admit defeat. 'If I can come back from the dead, they can get up and clean their rooms.' Ms Hartman, who lives with a hypoxic brain injury, is emceeing the Brain Injury South Australia launch event marking Brain Awareness Week on August 18, 2025. She wants to spread awareness about the importance of learning CPR. Originally published as Mum-of-two Melissa Hartman bought back from the dead after suffering cardiac arrest

1980s pop icon coming to Australia for first tour in 27 years - and she looks very different to her heyday
Pop-punk icon Wendy James is bringing Transvision Vamp to Australia next year. The iconic frontwoman is returning Down Under in 2026 for a slew of shows across the country, marking the British band's first gigs in 27 years. However, the rocker looks a little different from her heyday in the 1980s, when she performed hit songs such as 'Baby I Don't Care' and 'I Want Your Love.' The bleach blonde beauty, known for her doe-eyes, babydoll dresses and neon pink lipstick, looks a little more rock 'n' roll these days, with heavy eyeliner her new trademark. It's been a few years since the now-59-year-old was storming the pop charts, but Wendy released her solo album, The Shape Of History, to critical acclaim last year. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The record managed to reach the top 40 in the UK. Transvision Vamp disbanded in 1992 after falling out with their record label, but Wendy went on to make seven solo albums in the years that followed, moving to New York in 2002. However, it was only last year that the self-managed singer emailed a few Australian promoters after making the decision to get back on the road. Speaking to The Advertiser, Wendy revealed that the goal with her latest album was to not only go on tour, but to return to Aussie shores, where her musical journey began. 'I knew when I made this 10th album I wanted to not just do the UK again but go back to Australia where the whole thing started,' she said. Furthermore, the singer's desire to tour Australia was fuelled by a trip down memory lane after she stumbled upon old Super 8 footage of the good old days. 'I found a lot of Australian footage, especially film we captured in Melbourne, and I remember there were riot police on horses and people in the street and this one girl who screams: "They're bigger than the Beatles,"' she told the publication. During their peak, Transvision Vamp made headlines after Nirvana's Kurt Cobain wore one of their band tees on stage. Kurt donned the iconic shirt repping the group during Nirvana's 1991 US tour, as well as at his iconic MTV performance. Speaking of the moment, Wendy said that it became known as the 'Kurt shirt'. 'He came to quite a few of those shows we did in America in 1991 and he purchased his tour T-shirt and wore it for quite a few of his performances, including the MTV one,' she said. Transvision Vamp is preparing to play a number of shows across Australia in February. They will be kicking off the tour at Brisbane's The Triffid before moving on to The Station on the Sunshine Coast. The band then heads to King Street Bandroom in Newcastle and the Metro Theatre in Sydney. Transvision Vamp next head down to Northcote Theatre in Melbourne and The Gov in Adelaide, before finishing off the tour at Perth's Magnet House. General tickets to the Australian tour go on sale from July 15 at 9am.

TV presenter left completely baffled after discovering she's pregnant
Elspeth Hussey, 38, and her husband Alastair Dillon welcomed their son Monty in October last year - and she is now expecting their second baby, who is due in January Australian TV presenter Elspeth Hussey has revealed she is expecting her second baby, months after welcoming her first child. The 38-year-old journalist and her husband, Alastair Dillon, welcomed their son Monty in October last year. While she admitted they wanted to expand their family quickly, Elspeth said she didn't expect to fall pregnant so soon after their son was born. She revealed her second pregnancy came as a "complete surprise" and explained that she first started suspecting something when she fell asleep while assembling her son's cot. She then took a pregnancy test, which was positive, but she thought it was wrong at the beginning. However, further tests then confirmed she was indeed pregnant. She told The Advertiser: "I fell asleep halfway through assembling Monty's cot and thought that was a bit odd. I did a pregnancy test and it lit up. I was convinced it was wrong, particularly after discovering the box was out of date." But Elspeth then bought two more tests, which confirmed her pregnancy. The mum admitted that being pregnant while caring for a nine-month-old baby and working at the same time can be "tough" especially because of her morning sickness. The 7News presenter said she now has "lots of power naps in the recliner chair in the meeting room." She also confirmed that she and her husband know the gender of their baby, who is due in January, but don't want to share it publicly. Elspeth regularly shares family photos with little Monty on Instagram - and days after the baby was born, she posted a carousel of images with the caption: "10 days of loving our beautiful boy. Monty Michael Dillon arrived a little earlier than expected on 8th October at 1:39pm – weighing 2.9 kilos – and changing our lives forever. We've spent hours staring at him, our camera rolls are full, and our hearts are exploding." She also revealed that Monty was a "honeymoon baby" and said she disguised her bump through her clothes. However, she admitted that her colleagues eventually started suspecting that she was pregnant. Elspeth and Alastair tied the knot at St Mary's Church, North Adelaide, in January 2024. Some of her recent social media posts include photos of Monty in his cot, as well as images of the little child smiling alongside his parents. When Monty turned six months old, the proud mum wrote on Instagram: "6 months of our book-loving, bath-obsessed, beautiful boy. It feels like yesterday that we brought you home. We can't imagine our lives without you." Elspeth returned to work at 7News at the end of April and, sharing a photo of herself at her desk, she wrote: "Mum brain is definitely a thing but excited to be back on the desk using the other side of my brain again." Fans were excited for her return, with one writing: "She's back." Another posted: "So great to see you back." A third said: "So good to see you back tonight. You did a brilliant job." Someone else said: "Yay! Yippie! Woo hoo! So wonderful to see you on the news again... we have missed you so much!!!" A fan added: "Love seeing you back, your little man is a sweety."
