July 5 Hong Kong (Sha Tin) form analysis
Race 1 (1,200m) 4 Motor looks ready to win after an unlucky second to The All Out last start over 1,000m, where he was held up for room late. 9 Field Marshal, now third-up, should get every chance and looks the likely leader from barrier 1. 12 Winning Champion is also having his third start and is heading the right way. Back to 1,200m looks ideal after a strong third over 1,000m. 1 Light Years Glory surprised with a debut win at big odds and is worth respecting again despite the draw. Race 2 (1,200m) 1 Gimme Five looks ready to break through. He resumes off a pair of solid trials and returns to a course and trip where he has placed twice from two starts. 6 Lucky Generations is unplaced from 12 but has run some encouraging races. Freshened with 35 days between runs and a nice trial under his belt, he is worth a look at each-way odds. 12 Flying Phantom has not broken through in 22 starts but is often thereabouts. He will drop out early and look to finish over the top. 10 Sonic Boom was caught wide throughout first-up but was not beaten far. He is capable off this mark and in a race lacking tempo, he can roll forward and make his own luck. Race 3 (1,200m) 1 Mr Energia returns to Class 4 after starting favourite in a deeper Class 3 contest, where he was shuffled back and did well to finish fourth. That form reads strongly for this and he should be ready to strike. 2 Fashion Legend is on the quick turnaround after a comfortable win over the extended mile. He now drops in trip, but two runs ago he stuck on well for third over this course and distance. 5 Sight Happy did not have the best run last start from a wide draw when seeing this track and trip for the first time. He can settle closer from a better gate and is worth another look. 3 Smart Fighter is on debut on the all-weather under race conditions but brings in solid-enough trial form to be considered. Race 4 (1,600m) 1 Beautiful Win has the speed map in his favour and looks set to control things from the front. He has posted back-to-back placings over this course and trip since dropping to Class 5 and is well placed to break through. 6 Apolar Fighter was third in the same race and had excuses after being held up for much of the straight. With clear running, he can give this a shake. 5 Smart Beauty won that race and should map with every chance again. 9 Family Fortune closed well into sixth from a wide gate and the addition of blinkers for the first time catches the eye. Race 5 (1,200m) 1 Lucky Symphony had excuses last start after working hard from a wide draw to sit outside the leader in a strongly run race. He faded late into seventh but was not beaten far. Drawn slightly better this time helps. 2 Aerovolanic impressed on debut after some sharp trial work and looks to have more upside. 3 Patch Of Time is usually thereabouts and is better placed back at Sha Tin following a solid fourth at Happy Valley. 8 Spicy Spangle drops into a slightly weaker Class 4 and could show something here. He was caught wide last time, but his prior efforts over 1,000m were sound and he is a past winner over this course and trip. Race 6 (1,400m) 4 Endued has been trending the right way since the switch to Benno Yung and a slide in the ratings. From barrier 12 last start he gave away a big head start but closed off strongly for fourth. He is knocking on the door. 7 Amazing Duck is back from a break and while he is hard to catch, his recent trial was encouraging. He looks the likely leader and will give a sight first-up. 6 Strange Alert was green and held up briefly on debut. Showed enough to suggest he will improve with that run under his belt. 12 Colourful Winner adds more speed and, despite being a maiden, has put up back-to-back placings over this course and trip. Race 7 (1,200m) 2 Szeryng made full use of barrier 1 to break through stylishly at his third start, doing it with a bit in hand. He maps for another soft run. Should be right in it again. 1 Igor Stravinsky produced his best effort yet with a close-up second following the drop in class and now gets Zac Purton aboard, which boosts his claims. 3 Tourbillon Golfer made the running on debut and was only collared late. A repeat performance looks likely from barrier 1. 5 Winning Cigar had the outside draw on debut at Happy Valley over 1,000m and was given a quiet ride, but he found the line well. With a better gate and the step-up to 1,200m, he is one to keep safe. Race 8 (1,800m) 3 Fortune Boy is a three-year-old trending the right way and steps up to 1,800m for the first time. He tends to get back and hit the line, as seen when narrowly missing back-to-back wins last start. 2 Beauty Viva has switched to Tony Cruz's yard and his close second over this course and trip two back is the run to go on. 9 Celestial Patch is improving with racing and his third over the extended mile at Happy Valley was backed up by a solid fourth. Drawn better, he maps to settle closer and see out the trip. 1 Wukong Jewellery backs up quickly, drops in grade, and comes off his best run yet when closing hard into fourth on the all-weather. Race 9 (1,200m) 6 Magnifique had genuine excuses when his winning streak ended in March, but his recent trials suggest he has returned in top order and can bounce back first-up. 5 Righteous Arion has been holding form well with back-to-back thirds over this course and trip in stronger races. Key player. 3 Lifeline Express will drift back as usual and if they go too hard up front, he will be the one finishing over the top. 8 Akashvani was made to work from a wide draw in a fast-run race last start and faded late. Although drawn awkwardly in 10 again, he has the potential to improve. Race 10 (1,200m) 4 Masterofmyuniverse steps into Class 2 after back-to-back wins that took his tally to four from nine, and he has trialled well between runs to suggest he can keep progressing. 5 Colourful King lost no admirers with a narrow defeat on his first 1,200m run. Back to Sha Tin presents a fresh test, but he is heading the right way. 2 Lady's Choice was not far away in Group 3 company behind Helios Express and now returns to a more suitable grade. 7 Call Me Glorious meets Masterofmyuniverse better at the weights and is worth another chance after a tough run wide throughout last time. Race 11 (1,400m) 1 Patch Of Stars is a three-year-old on the rise looking to extend his winning streak to four, and remains the clear benchmark. He made light work of them last start and will take plenty of beating. 10 Victory Sky chased him home last time and boxed on honestly, and again looks well placed to run into the placings. 3 Another World is better suited returning to this course and distance after a fair effort at Happy Valley. 7 Armour War Eagle got too far back from a wide gate last time but closed in late. May 25 Hong Kong (Sha Tin) form analysis
Race 1 (1,200m) 1 Quick Money remains the one to beat after a strong debut second to The All Out, then going one better with a soft win second-up. The rise to 1,200m now looks ideal. 8 Babieca has performed well in both starts to date, finishing third on debut to The All Out before running a close second to Quick Money. He is still racing greenly, so there is plenty of improvement to come. Zac Purton to ride. 4 Light Years Glory debuts from the inside draw and looks well prepared off several pass-mark trials - he can give a good showing. 10 Hyannis Star was well beaten into fourth on debut, 6¾ lengths off The All Out, but has trialled well since and can take a step forward second-up. Race 2 (1,200m) 7 Invincible Ibis is a newcomer who has trialled well enough ahead of his debut to suggest he is in with a chance. Drawn ideally in barrier 2 while key rivals have drawn wide. 10 Goldentronicmighty shed his maiden tag in style last start with an easy two-length course-and-distance win. With the low draw in what looks a moderate race, he can go back-to-back. 3 Call Me Gorgeous has his shot at Class 4 and can make his mark despite barrier 11. His first run in the grade was a passable fourth and he can build on that. 2 Awesome Treasure resumes off a freshen-up and drops in a grade where he boasts a strong record. He should race prominently and give a solid sight under the seven-pound apprentice claim. Race 3 (1,200m) 10 Loveisintheair finally gets to the bigger track at Sha Tin where his chances of breaking through for a first win are boosted. 9 Honest Witness is now third-up, and both his fourth-place finishes have been sound. He has since trialled impressively, winning his heat, and maps to race on speed where he gets every chance. 1 Giddy Up returned to Class 4 two starts ago with a close-up second and was sent out favourite last time where he ran sixth. He is drawn ideally in barrier 3 to settle closer and bounce back at a better price. 6 Copartner Fleet debuts from a horror draw in barrier 12, but his trials have been sharp with Purton aboard. He is one to watch for a promising effort that will pave the way to better things. Race 4 (1,400m) 1 Packing Hermod is hard to oppose even at the top of Class 2 with a heavy impost. The five-time winner from nine starts was last seen bouncing back in a big way with blinkers on for the first time. 2 Young Champion was less than a length off Packing Hermod two starts ago. He was only moderate last time when taken back early from a wide draw, but this looks a good race for him. 6 Dancing Code was forced to settle further back than usual, but hit the line strongly into sixth, beaten just 1½ lengths in an on-pace dominated race. He has yet to win in Class 2 but is worth another shot. 7 Mickley has a local record of one win and zero placings from 10 starts, but he enters off an encouraging fast-finishing fourth behind Hong Lok Golf. Keep safe. Race 5 (1,400m) 3 Super Love drew wide in his first 1,400m test last start, was taken back to find cover, and found the line well into sixth. He can settle closer in the run from barrier 3. 1 Meowth drops back into Class 4 where he is one-from-one. Jockey upgrade to Hugh Bowman and an inside gate help his cause. 6 Ka Ying Glory pulled up a roarer on debut when well beaten as an odds-on favourite, but his trials since have been excellent. 4 Monarch County can settle much closer from barrier 4 after being taken back too far last start, where he finished strongly into third. That effort followed his maiden win at his prior run, and he still looks to have more to offer. Race 6 (1,600m) 6 Mister Dapper was given an ill-judged ride last start when asked to lead, so his fifth-place finish was better than it reads. He draws well in barrier 4 and, with a more measured steer, can bounce back. 7 Wrote A New Page is a progressive three-year-old who put the writing on the wall last start with a strong second at his first attempt over this course and distance. He looks ready to break through. 5 Fortune Boy notched his first win at start six last time, defeating Wrote A New Page, and as another three-year-old still on the rise, he should have more to offer and is worth following up. 11 Special Hedge should roll forward from barrier 10. Since his second win five starts ago, he has remained in form with three placings all over this course and trip. Race 7 (1,400m) 3 Shamus Storm is set to get one of the runs of the race from barrier 2. That bodes well for his chances to finally score a maiden win after going close in all four starts. 4 Max Que enters this race off back-to-back runner-up finishes, and his latest second to Dazzling Fit reads well, especially given he suffered interference in the straight. He shapes as one of several strong hopes in the field. 1 Spirit Of Peace has shown plenty of ability in six starts, but was set an impossible task last time from barrier 12 where he was never really in contention. Better than that. 10 Galvanic is nearing peak fitness after two fair efforts this prep. He draws ideally in barrier 1, and having placed twice from six starts over this course and trip, he is a genuine contender at a price. Race 8 (2,400m) THE STANDARD CHARTERED CHAMPIONS & CHATER CUP (G1) 1 Voyage Bubble will bid to become just the second Hong Kong Triple Crown winner after wins in the Stewards' Cup and Hong Kong Gold Cup. He has stamina to prove at this trip, and gets the nod of approval from his good gate. 2 Dubai Honour is a two-time Group 1 winner over 2,400m, most recently taking out the Group 1 Tancred Stakes at Rosehill. He is proven at Sha Tin, having finished second in the Hong Kong Vase last December. Rain will help. 4 Ensued is capable of running a cheeky race. He was close-up in fourth in the Vase and looks well suited stepping back up to this trip. 10 Bundle Award was brilliant when winning the Group 3 Queen Mother Memorial Cup last start, but that race was run more like a sprint in a small field. Race 9 (1,000m) 10 Justifying was disappointing last start after creating a big impression on debut with a sizzling all-the-way win. There were not any clear excuses on the day aside from perhaps immaturity and the sharp rise in the handicap second-up. He may be ridden cold this time to help him finish off better. 4 Celestial Hero has trialled up well on several occasions leading into his Hong Kong debut. He brings with him solid Australian form, clearly has some ability, and looks a horse to follow - though winning straight up is never easy. 13 Alsonso has been threatening to break through with back-to-back second-place finishes at this course and distance at the top of Class 4. Now back into Class 3 with a light weight, he looks well placed. 2 Stellar Express has his second run back in Class 3 and returns to this course and distance where his record is strong, after a solid third to Seasons Wit over the minimum trip at Happy Valley last time. Race 10 (2,000m) 8 Gold Master can vie for the run of the race from his low draw, which can prove vital in this highly competitive field. Last start, he jumped from barrier 10 and was solid holding second throughout, missing by only a nose. 1 Bravehearts will find this much easier than his last assignment and gets Purton in the saddle for the first time, which is a notable switch. Third-up now and not beaten far in either run this prep, he is well placed over this trip with strong course and distance stats. 6 Winning Wing broke through impressively two starts ago on his fifth local run after a string of luckless efforts, and held form well last time rising to 2,000m, finishing strongly into third. 7 Liveandletlive does not draw ideally, but he may still find the front with relative ease like last time when defeating both Gold Master and Winning Wing, and he must be considered again. Race 11 (1,400m) 11 Super Express is a talented three-year-old with a future. He now steps into Class 3, which presents more depth, but his trial win between runs suggests he is in fine fettle for the challenge. 7 South Star is another promising three-year-old on the rise, chasing a hat-trick of wins after an ultra-impressive performance on his first attempt in Class 3 last start - he is right in the mix again. 8 Top Dragon rebounded from a luckless run to win his maiden impressively last time. Looks set to continue progressing. 5 Silvery Breeze found the line strongly into fourth first-up after settling too far back. He will strip much fitter now, but barrier 14 may again force him to be ridden for luck. He has the closing speed to feature if things go his way.

The All Out snares season's first Griffin race, while Dream Winner headlines huge exotics

Photos: Kenneth Chan He may not have won like you hope to see from a $1.2 chance, but The All Out still produced a performance that suggests he's got plenty more to give. Red-hot favourite for the first Griffin race of the season, the Racing For Charity Plate (1,000m), two-year-old The All Out controlled things from the front on the outside rail down the Sha Tin straight. After shrugging off pressure from Hyannis Star 300m out, The All Out looked poised for a comfortable victory under Zac Purton before Quick Money flashed late to get within a short head on the line. The third-placed Babieca was a whopping six and a half lengths off the quinella pair. 'I would have liked to see him win a little easier, but a win's a win. He's got more improvement to come – he's a big, strong horse and he'll improve with more racing,' said trainer Jamie Richards. 'But The All Out's got more scope for improvement yet, so hopefully he can go on with the job.' Richards' victory in the first of 2025's Griffin races, which are run for southern hemisphere two-year-olds and northern hemisphere three-year-olds, took him to 13 wins for the campaign. Winner headlines exotics to Dream of While jockey Jerry Chau Chun-lok had to settle for second aboard Quick Money, he was right in the money aboard the Frankie Lor Fu-chuen-trained Dream Winner in the Class Three Nurturing Talent Handicap (1,000m). Not only did Dream Winner reward his supporters with victory at a massive $66.3, he also lead in a string of enormous exotics in Sha Tin's ninth event. The second placing of Manfred Man Ka-leung's Magic Hallow at win odds of $103 ensured the quinella paid an eye-watering $25,905 and the forecast a mind-boggling $49,241. Sparkling Fellow ran third at $22 to complete a $65,503 trio and a huge $739,695 tierce. While hot favourite Justifying filled fourth at $1.2, the quartet still came in at a massive $1,291,048. While Dream Winner's victory was his first in almost two years after he started his career with three straight successes, it continued a recent run of vastly improved form from Chau. After snapping a run of 74 rides without a victory aboard Chateau Le Peche last Sunday, Chau booted Northern Fire Ball to victory at Happy Valley during the week before cashing in again on Sunday. He sits on 15 winners after 62 of the season's 88 meetings. Jockey Club unveils RTTC refurbishments The Jockey Club unveiled its refurbished Racing Talent Training Centre (RTTC) training stable at Sha Tin on Friday, with the facility ushering in a 'new era of developing the next generation of horsemen and horsewomen'. The new training stable 'embodies a commitment to excellence and a future filled with promise for Hong Kong's world-class horse racing industry'. 'Ever since it opened in 2008, the RTTC stable has been fundamental to talent development at the club,' said Jockey Club chief executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges. 'It represents our commitment to nurturing the very best talent and to achieving the highest standards of equine management and care – all of which are essential to our world-class racing. 'This commitment goes back to the establishment of the Apprentice Jockey School in 1972. 'World-class champion trainers Tony Cruz, Francis Lui [Kin-wai] and Ricky Yiu [Poon-fai] are all graduates from the school. 'Others, such as Matthew Chadwick, Vincent Ho [Chak-yiu], Derek Leung [Ka-chun] and Matthew Poon [Ming-fai], are currently pursuing highly successful careers in the saddle. 'No less essential is the daily care and management of racehorses. Recognising this, in 2005 the club established the Racing Development Board, which in 2022 was rebranded as the Racing Talent Training Centre. 'Over the past two decades, the RTTC has provided vocational and skills training to non-riding professionals. Many have gone on to enjoy highly successful careers as assistant trainers, head lads, stable assistants, farriers, and in many other roles. 'I sincerely hope every trainee who benefits from its outstanding facilities will go on to enjoy a fulfilling and successful career with the club. I hope they will join with us to take Hong Kong's world-class racing to even greater heights of excellence.' Upgrades have been completed on the stable facilities and the classroom, with new horse stalls installed and the wash-down bay redesigned to provide a comfortable environment for horses.
