Nestled in the upper western corner of South Carolina, you'll find the Old 96 District, comprised of five counties offering everything from historic sites and outdoor adventures to distillery tours — an ideal destination if you're in the mood to be charmed. We're counting down six darling bed and breakfasts in the area that are perfect for anchoring your next weekend getaway! Azalea Inn Location: Edgefield County More Info: Facebook Located on a working farm, Azalea Inn is a unique bed and breakfast located in Edgefield County. The 137-year-old farmhouse offers four guest suites, each with a four-poster bed and high-end linens. Plus, guests can enjoy a homemade breakfast every morning, courtesy of the farm's daily harvest. For dinner, you're guaranteed a reservation at the inn's restaurant in Edgefield, Christine's Farm to Fork. In addition to other farm attractions like Three Star Vineyard & Orchard and Hickory Hill Milk, guests are just minutes from Palmetto Shooting Complex, the Old Edgefield District Genealogy Society, the Forks Area Trail System, and the Ten Governor Rail Trail. Pin Inn on the Square Location: Greenwood County More Info: As Greenwood's only full-service boutique hotel, Inn on the Square is a top choice for many travelers. Carefully renovated to preserve the building's original architecture, the inn offers two luxurious levels. Amenities and accommodations include a full-service restaurant, casual bar and lounge, and 24-hour fitness center. Each of the 49 guest rooms has been thoughtfully designed to meet your every need, offering high-quality linens, premium toiletries, comfortable beds, and more. The hotel is also within walking distance to Uptown Greenwood's Main Street, which is home to a wide variety of dining and shopping options. Pin Isabella's Bed & Breakfast Location: Edgefield County More Info: Facebook Located in a historic 1800s Victorian home, Isabella's Bed & Breakfast is the third oldest home in Johnston. Offering three guest suites — each equipped with an antique queen bed and private bathroom — this is the perfect getaway for couples, families, or a group of friends. For a stay with a bit of added luxury, book the second-floor suite, which includes a separate sitting area and a private balcony. When you wake up, you can expect something different (yet equally delicious!) every morning for breakfast — including waffles, muffins, sausage, and more. Pin Sharon Manor Location: Abbeville County More Info: Owned by husband-and-wife duo David and Benita Chupp, Sharon Manor offers four luxurious guest suites, each styled after a place the Chupps hold close to their hearts. The newest suite, The Amelia, is modeled after Amelia Island, FL, and offers a king bed, kitchenette, and spacious private bath. The Litchfield suite also has a king bed and the property's largest kitchenette — it's designed after a town in Connecticut where the Chupp's oldest son lives. This room can also be adjoined with The Blue Ridge, named after the Blue Ridge Parkway, which offers a queen bed, cozy sitting area, kitchenette, and private bathroom. The property's final room, The Beaufort, offers subtle nods to the Lowcountry and includes a king bed, plenty of natural light, a kitchenette, and a private bathroom. SB Tip: Don't skip Sharon Manor's coffee, which is roasted in-house! Pin The Belmont Inn Location: Abbeville County More Info: The Belmont Inn is an Abbeville landmark on the National Register of Historic Places. What started as a hotel for railroad visitors and Abbeville Opera House performers has been renovated into a beautiful and luxurious modern bed and breakfast — all while maintaining the building's original architecture. As you enter The Belmont Inn, you're immediately greeted by a spacious veranda with marble terrazzo flooring and many antiques and furnishings from the early 1900s. Eight guestrooms are on the first floor, while the remaining 17 are upstairs (with room number 13 being omitted from the lineup to account for superstition). Pin Veranda on Main Location: Abbeville County More Info: Facebook Veranda on Main is a luxurious bed and breakfast located in the heart of Abbeville. Beautifully renovated to fit the exact specifications of a historic 1800s home, the property is the perfect home base for a getaway with girlfriends or a relaxing couples' weekend. As you step inside, take note of the hardwood floors, sourced from the Tennessee mountains, and the Swarovski crystal chandelier hanging in the entryway. No matter which room you stay in, you'll enjoy high-end bedding, linens, and drapes. Pin Enjoy your South Carolina travels, wherever they may take you! The Amelia Winners: 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 and 1967 Lotus 49 Earn Best of Show Accolades as Enthusiasts Celebrate Speed and Elegance
The Amelia's 30th Annual Celebration Saw a Weekend of Fine Dining, Driving Experiences, Live Auctions, and the Amelia Concours D'Elegance—Showcasing Hundreds of Exquisite Vehicles from Around the World AMELIA ISLAND, Fla., March 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Among a distinguished field of more than 240 historically significant automobiles, spanning 35 classes, a 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 claimed the prestigious title of Best of Show, Concours d'Elegance, while a 1967 Lotus 49 was honored as Best of Show, Concours de Sport at the 30th Amelia Concours d'Elegance. Event press releases, concours results, photos and the event program can be found here. Best of Show – Concours d'Elegance: The 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Chassis No. 412028 is believed to be one of the prototypes for the 1938 Mille Miglia. When it was restored, it was found that the car was an original short chassis model, and the engine had different characteristics than that of the Sport 8C 2.9, including a larger and different exhaust system. The car was ordered new in 1938 by the famous Italian racing champion Giuseppe Farina. It is the only 8C 2900 bodied by Farina. "My husband and I won an award here together in 2020. He passed away a year ago and he would be proud to have this car win," said Deborah Keller, owner of the winning Alfa Romeo. "It was in the stars today. It took a lot of work to get it here in time. I'm thrilled." Best of Show – Concours de Sport: The 1967 Lotus 49 Chassis No. 49/2 is the second Lotus 49 built. It was debuted by the legendary Jimmy Clark at Zandvoort in 1967, marking the first appearance of the Cosworth DFV engine. In addition to winning at Silverstone & Watkins Glen, it was the winner of four Tasman races from 1967-1968 while being driven in 1968 by Jackie Oliver and Jo Siffert. It was raced by Mario Andretti in South Africa in 1969 and sold to Pete Lovely by Lotus' Colin Chapman in 1969. Lovely then raced the car in multiple grand prix races from 1969-1971. The car was restored by Classic Team Lotus in 2010. "Our 4th grade elementary class went to the Indianapolis Motor Speed Way for a field trip. I thought it was pretty cool so I went to the race that year and saw Jimmy Clark win. That's what lit the fuse," said owner of the winning Lotus, Chris MacAllister. "It's nice that the car gets the attention it deserves. It really is an important car in Formula 1 history." "For 30 years, The Amelia has shown enthusiasts that while automotive design and competition are always evolving, the enthusiasm for special cars remains steadfast – especially the very best of the best," said McKeel Hagerty, Hagerty CEO, Board Chairman and Chairman of The Amelia. "More than 100 years of classics were present this weekend as thousands of people gathered on the show fields to honor automotive history and celebrate car culture. My heartfelt thanks go to our guests, spectators, volunteers and everyone else who helps make this celebration one of the greatest annual events for car lovers, young and old." The weekend celebration of automotive excellence welcomed thousands of passionate auto enthusiasts to The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island in Florida. This year's event paid tribute to racing icon and four-time Indianapolis 500 champion Hélio Castroneves, who showcased a collection of historically significant race cars. The energy was palpable throughout the sale, with Lydia Fenet, Broad Arrow's Principal Auctioneer, moderating spirited bidding battles on Friday and Saturday. Bidder registration was the highest for any Broad Arrow auction to date. The top sale of the weekend was a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione, chassis number 1451 GT, which achieved a final price of $9,465,000. "We're thrilled with the results from our third Amelia Auction," said Barney Ruprecht, Senior Car Specialist and Vice-President of Auctions for Broad Arrow following the sale. "We presented a high-quality offering that saw frequent bidding competitions between bidders both in the room and over the phones and internet throughout the two days and across all categories of the market. The California Spider becomes the most valuable car Broad Arrow has ever sold, and the Miura is—significantly—the second most valuable example of the model ever sold at auction. The Multi-Million-Dollar Squabble Behind ModaMiami
What started out as something of a tiff between auction giants RM Sotheby's and Hagerty's Broad Arrow seems to have worked itself out into a splendid couple of weeks in South Florida.1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Harry Yeaggy, Cincinnati, Ohio As the season comes into full swing in sunny south Florida, the car collecting cognoscenti now have two events in a row to attend: last week's ModaMiami held in Coral Gables at the fabulous and historic Biltmore Hotel, and The Amelia, now scheduled for this Saturday only (because of a thunderstorm scheduled for Sunday) at the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island just up the year, Moda's first, there was a bit of a scheduling snafu—which might have been intentional, might not have been, no one's saying—that saw both events on the same weekend. See, when Hagerty took over the Amelia in 2021, it hadn't yet acquired Broad Arrow Auctions. It did that the following year, and it held its first Broad Arrow Auction at the Amelia last year. RM had been hosting an auction at Amelia since RM Sotheby's held its first ModaMiami 'lifestyle event,' that happened to include an RM Sotheby's auction, the same weekend last year. Scandal! This year the two events were separated by a week, creating a lovely Florida destination week or two for a lot of car weekend was the second running of ModaMiami and, as we said, the 2025 Broad Arrow auction is going to be held Saturday, March it? Too much Inside Baseball? Anyway, the ModaMiami event was a blast, by all accounts, including the official account from organizers, whom you'd expect to say Duff, president of RM Sotheby's, described this year's ModaMiami as 'an event that's redefining what a concours can be.''After our successful debut (last year, which had eight Pebble Beach Best of Show winners in attendance), we're glad to return with an exceptional showcase that blends the best of automotive history with a modern, forward-thinking vibe.'This year's Moda featured 275 cars in the two-day concours held Saturday and Sunday under sunny skies, as well as a driving tour of Coral Gables and the best parts of South Florida on Friday. There was even a Moda After Dark party hosted by Rolls-Royce Saturday the lawn were featured marques like: 50 Years of the Countach, 20 Years of the Veyron, six Mille Miglia cars, and classes for hypercars, Cadillacs, and Stuttgart the auction? RM Sotheby's sold almost $75 million worth of cars over the course of ModaMiami, including a 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II that hammered for $13.2 million, a 1908 Mercedes 150 HP Rennwagen that sold for $8.25 million, and a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette SS XP-64 that went for $7.7 million. A million here a million there and soon you're talking about real everything goes up the coast for tomorrow's Amelia Island concours and auction. Hope to have photos of that for you, too.
