Christopher Nolan Came Close to Directing James Bond

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Now that we know Denis Villeneuve of "Dune" fame will be directing the next "James Bond" film, Variety reports that "Oppenheimer" director Christopher Nolan came closer than we thought to helming a film in the franchise. Read More: 'Lilo & Stitch 2' Already On the Way from Disney Variety says initially Amazon was "very interested" in recruiting Nolan to helm the long-awaited follow-up to "No Time to Die", even if that meant giving Nolan the final cut (something "James Bond" directors have historically been denied). Christopher Nolan attends the 77th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards held at The Beverly Hilton on February 8, 2025 in Beverly Hills, California. Christopher Nolan attends the 77th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards held at The Beverly Hilton on February 8, 2025 in Beverly Hills, California. JB Lacroix/FilmMagic As recounted by RadioTimes back in March, this isn't Christopher Nolan's first near-miss with the "Bond" franchise. The filmmaker pitched a "Bond" film after making "Tenet". His vision took the story back to the 1960s and would've been the first of a two-parter. Things reportedly broke down between Nolan and Barbara Broccoli when the latter wouldn't compromise on giving Nolan the final cut. Right now, Nolan is busy making "The Odyssey", which stars Tom Holland who is apparently on the shortlist to become the next James Bond. Variety reports the "Spider-Man" star is joined on that list by Jacob Elordi ("Saltburn") and Harris Dickinson ("Babygirl"). While Christopher Nolan ultimately won't be directing the next "Bond" film, his brother Jonathan Nolan was reportedly one of the directors beat out of the final running by Villeneuve. Variety reports the other directors up for the job were Edward Berger ("Conclave"), Edgar Wright ("Baby Driver"), and Paul King ("Wonka"). It's worth mentioning that while Villeneuve is locked in for "Bond 26", there's no telling who might follow for "Bond 27" and beyond. Villeneuve doesn't have final cut and he's only signed on for a single film. Variety recounts that the last time a director helmed two "Bond" films in a row was Sam Mandes who directed both 2012's "Skyfall" and 2015's "Spectre." Alfonso Cuarón ("Gravity") is another filmmaker who was, for a time, a favorite to helm the next "Bond" film, but he took himself out of the running by focusing on other projects, including "Jane" which will star Charlize Theron. There's no word yet on who will write "Bond 26". Some early speculation tapped Jonathan Nolan for the job, but Variety reports that he isn't available to write. Create Account NEW YORK — A sheer dress silhouetting a black body suit, Usher's signature crowd interaction and a tweet from her child's father: that concoction created a nearly two-week social media frenzy starring Keke Palmer back in 2023. Now, the multi-hyphenate creative has channeled that experience into her new album, 'Just Keke.' 'It was tough … I didn't even realize I was in such grief,' said the 31-year-old about the fallout of her extremely public breakup with her ex, Darius Jackson. 'I get to put that same emotion into a song, and I get tell those people that's been watching me since I was nine … what's going on in a way that it can translate.' Following 2023's 'Big Boss,' her third solo studio project, out now, is an 18-track visual album conceptualized and directed by Palmer and her team. Tayla Parx, who's written for Alicia Keys, Justin Bieber and Dua Lipa, handled the bulk of the writing and executive produced with Palmer. The storyline follows Palmer musically navigating celebrity, motherhood and self-reflection. But her vulnerability about her well-publicized relationship drama is the album's throughline. 'That's what artistry is … mine is about transmutation, it's about bringing closure,' said Palmer, who's usually mum about her romantic relationships. 'I have to address something that I would never address, especially nothing on an intimate level _ that's just so not me. But I knew that I had to because now that it's become public, it's become a part of my work, and I have to respond to it as such. And that just caused me to have to grow.' While attending Usher's popular Las Vegas residency in 2023, the Emmy winner danced closely with the music icon during his routine audience interaction segment. Social videos of the interaction prompted a viral tweet from Jackson, her ex-boyfriend and child's father, criticizing her attire, writing, 'It's the outfit tho.. you a mom.' While he was quickly admonished online, the conversation eventually moved beyond social media to articles and think pieces tackling subjects ranging from patriarchy, women's attire, and having children before marriage. Standout tracks on 'Just Keke' include 'My Confession' — a tongue-in-cheek interpolation of Usher's hit 'Confessions, Pt. II' — as well as the previously released '125 Degrees' and 'Off Script.' She passionately belts out her love on the ballad 'Unless It's You,' while 'Misunderstood' finds her asking, 'Don't you see me throwing out a lifeline? / You too busy pinning me the bad guy / Maybe we ain't doing what we should / or maybe we're just misunderstood.' This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. 'What the project, I think, speaks to as well is just like reclamation,' said the 'Nope' star, admitting the album could reignite criticism about her personal life. 'I'm just Keke, hate it or love it. This is me, this is my story, this is how I see things, I see my life … the whole point of it, too, is making peace with just saying what you got to say and letting it be that.' While Palmer's mic is still hot, she's extremely booked and busy on Hollywood lots: a sequel to 'One of Them Days,' and she stars with Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson in 'The Pickup' from Prime Video in August. The 'Akeelah and the Bee' actor will lead Peacock's upcoming TV adaptation of Mel Brook's 'The 'Burbs,' and she'll join the team on 'Spaceballs 2' with original stars Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis, the latter a reclusive '80s and '90s star who's since largely stayed out of Hollywood. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Palmer says she'll judge the success of 'Just Keke' not necessarily by sales or Billboard charts, but by potential opportunities that arise, whether it's creating and directing visual albums for other artists, helming her own musical and comedic variety show, or even embarking on her own world tour. 'It could look like so many things, and I'm open to all of them,' said Palmer. 'As long as I know that I put my all into this, I know I can't lose.' Love concerts, but can't make it to the venue? Miley Cyrus Misses Her First Career No. 1 On One Chart By One Spot

Miley Cyrus debuts at No. 1 on the U.K.'s album sales and download charts with Something Beautiful, ... More while hitting No. 2 on the vinyl tally — her all-time career peak. BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA - JANUARY 05: Miley Cyrus attends the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton on January 05, 2025 in Beverly Hills, California. (Photo by Matt Winkelmeyer/WireImage) Miley Cyrus scores a lofty debut in the United Kingdom with her new album Something Beautiful, which opens at No. 1 on several charts in the country this week. While the project doesn't launch atop the main list of the most-consumed full-lengths and EPs, it does perform especially well when it comes to pure purchases, as the singer's fanbase opened their wallets to support the pop icon. Something Beautiful misses out on the throne on multiple rankings by just a spot or two, but its arrival helps the Grammy winner tie her all-time best showing on one competitive list. Something Beautiful kicks off its time at No. 2 on the Official Vinyl Albums chart this frame. The pop set is held back from the top spot by the alternative group the 1975, which arrives in first place with Still at Their Very Best – Live. Cyrus's effort is one of nine debuts inside the top 10 this week on the vinyl-only tally during what has turned out to be a very busy period. The uppermost region of the ranking is completely refreshed from last week, so while she doesn't lead the charge, Cyrus can feel comfortable knowing she faced stiff competition — and bested nearly all of it. Cyrus has never reached No. 1 on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, and the 1975 keeps her from scoring her first champion on the list. The No. 2 start of Something Beautiful does match her previously-set career peak, which she reached in spring 2023 with Endless Summer Vacation. That project, her most recent full-length before Something Beautiful, opened in the runner-up space, then dipped to No. 6, then No. 30, and has not been seen on the vinyl tally since. Throughout her career, Cyrus has pushed five projects to the Official Vinyl Albums chart, and all but one have cracked the top 10. Plastic Hearts and Bangerz peaked at Nos. 5 and 8, respectively. Her 2018 set Younger Now only managed one turn at No. 37 before disappearing. Something Beautiful rules both the Official Albums Sales and Official Album Downloads charts this week, and it becomes yet another win in Cyrus's collection of leaders. The set also opens inside the top 10 at No. 3 on the Official Albums list, which ranks titles by total consumption — not just pure purchases, like the other two.

The Rock Brought To Tears By Heartfelt Gift

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has always deeply loved and respected his late father, the wrestling legend Rocky Johnson. "The Great One" recently showed these strong feelings after getting a very thoughtful birthday gift that moved him to tears. The Rock shared this emotional moment on his Instagram page for all his followers to see. He posted a video of himself reacting to the present that clearly meant so much to him. The gift was an actual ticket stub from a wrestling show he went to as an 11-year-old boy. At that particular show, he had the special experience of watching his own father, Rocky Johnson, perform in the ring. This specific ticket was from a WWF event that took place on March 17, 1984, in Springfield, Massachusetts. It marked a cherished childhood memory of a young Rock seeing his dad wrestle. Known also by his powerful nickname "The Final Boss," The Rock stated this was one of the most meaningful gifts he had ever received in his life. Holding the old paper ticket again brought back very powerful emotions and a deep wish for just one more moment with his father. Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic He explained that this longing to simply say hello or goodbye one more time was what made him cry. The Rock then remembered his childhood, which was often spent on the road with his dad due to his wrestling career. He recalled that Rocky Johnson was frequently tired and sore from the tough schedule and physical nature of wrestling, and because of this, he rarely smiled. However, his father often found a sense of peace and enjoyment when he was inside the squared circle, as The Rock pointed out with a slight smile visible on his dad's face in footage from that 1984 match. The Rock also admitted that he knows he is a hard person to shop for when it comes to gifts. This made the kind and thoughtful surprise from his family members even more special and precious to him. More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation He made sure to thank his brother Brad and his sisters Maya and Mere for giving him such an emotional and powerful gift. The ticket brought back a very strong and touching memory from his youth. In his Instagram post, The Rock wrote directly to his fans and family, "Opening a birthday gift – one of the most meaningful gifts I've ever received. A ticket 🎟️ to a wrestling show I attended when I was 11yrs old to watch my dad wrestle. Who would've thought years later I'd hold this ticket, and wishing I had one more shot to say hello (or goodbye) to my old man." He went on to share more of his feelings in the post, "As a kid, we were always on the road and I don't remember my dad smiling much, as he was always mentally tired and his body banged up and in pain from the nightly grind – but he did find moments of PEACE when he was wrestling in that squared circle. Even in this video, you see my dad attempting a SLIGHT SMILE 🙂 I know I'm not easy to buy gifts for, so VERY thoughtful gifts like this mean the world to me from my loved ones. Mahalo brother Brad. And my sistas Maya & Mere too." Rocky Johnson passed away in 2020. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.
