Did the Nets make a error trading Cam Johnson for Michael Porter Jr.?

The Brooklyn Nets have made some key decisions in the 2025 NBA offseason as they look to improve the team following a 26-56 record during the 2024-25 campaign. Brooklyn came into the summer with the most cap space in the league and while they used that cap space to add veterans and draft picks, there are some who believe the Nets made some mistakes along the way. "The more I thought about it over the last five days, that's one of the worst trades of the decade," The Ringer's Bill Simmons said during an episode of "The Bill Simmons Podcast" along with co-host Ryen Russillo. Simmons and Russillo spent the podcast discussing teams with the bleakest outlooks over the next five years and the Nets were one of the teams talked about, partly because of Brooklyn trading forward Cam Johnson for Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. "You have to catch a pick to get rid of Porter and I also didn't get anything for Cam Johnson. Nothing," Simmons continued. "When it happened, it was like just oh yeah, this makes sense and it's Cam Johnson. I love Cam Johnson way more than I like Porter Jr. for a bunch of reasons. Then, he costs half as much and you're like, what's the Cam Johnson trade if you're trying to acquire a good player," Russillo said. To recap the full trade, the Nets traded Johnson to the Nuggets in exchange for Porter and a 2032 first-round pick, a pick that one NBA front office executive believes is a "prized" asset that Denver gave up. To Simmons' point, Porter, who has two years and $77 million left on his deal, was viewed as a player that teams wouldn't be happy to trade for due to the perception that his production doesn't match his contract. Porter, 27, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 50.4% from the field and 39.5% from three-point land in 77 games played. Porter made $35.8 million over the course of the season, making him the 35th highest-paid player or in other words, just outside of consideration of being an All-Star. Johnson, 29, had the best season of his career as he averaged 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 47.5% from the floor and 39.0% from deep. Johnson made just $23.062 million over the course of the season, showing that he is a value on his contract due to how he was able to produce on a Nets team lacking many playmaking options. Either way, one could argue that the Nets did not get enough for Johnson since Porter is viewed as a negative asset by some because of the money left on his contract. However, one could also argue that getting a distant first-round pick from a Nuggets where Nikola Jokic will be 37 years old along with a good player in Porter is more valuable than holding on to Johnson in the hopes of a better offer to come along at some point. Report: Rutgers' Ace Bailey cancels visit with Sixers ahead of draft

Report: Rutgers' Ace Bailey cancels visit with Sixers ahead of draft With the 2025 NBA draft just about a week away, now is the time for teams to get down to the nitty gritty and make their final decisions on prospects as they move forward with the process. The Philadelphia 76ers are no different as they continue preparing for the No. 3 pick. The Sixers will, for sure, meet with Duke guard Kon Knueppel. He stated on "The Bill Simmons Podcast" that he has a Zoom meeting set up with the Sixers, but not a workout. Philadelphia has welcomed Baylor's VJ Edgecombe in for a workout, and had one set with Rutgers star Ace Bailey, but that has reportedly been canceled. Per ESPN's Jonathan Givony: Former Rutgers star Ace Bailey has canceled a visit to the Philadelphia 76ers, sources told ESPN. Bailey, the No. 3 prospect on ESPN's big board, was slated to fly to Philadelphia, owners of the No. 3 pick in the draft, Friday, for dinner with the team's front office and a private workout, but elected to cancel on Wednesday, sources told ESPN. With that being said, Bailey is still an option for Philadelphia. Just because he hasn't come in for a workout doesn't mean the Sixers will not outright select him. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey has never been shy about making big moves and Bailey qualifies as one when considering the immense talent he brings to the table. Morey selected Jared McCain in the 2024 draft and he did not visit Philadelphia for a workout. Givony added: The Sixers have not ruled out selecting Bailey, despite his refusal to visit Philadelphia, sources told ESPN. The team has scouted him extensively throughout the season, as he plays his college basketball at nearby Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey, and interviewed him in Chicago at the NBA Draft Combine. The team will have final discussions on who to select in the coming week and is unlikely to move down in the draft order next Wednesday, sources said. Bailey averaged 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in his freshman season with Rutgers.
