Watch: Brandy, Monica talk 'Boy is Mine' tour, their 'musical marriage'

File Photo by Christine Chew/UPI | License Photo June 26 (UPI) -- Singers Brandy and Monica say their upcoming Boy is Mine Tour was 27 years in the making. The music icons stopped by The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday to discuss their upcoming tour, which takes its name from their 1998 hit song "The Boy is Mine." Brandy said the idea for the song came from an episode of The Jerry Springer Show. "One of the topics was 'The Boy is Mine,' and I'm like, 'Oh my god, song idea, let's do this!'" she told Fallon. Monica added that when she first listened to the lyrics, she knew fans would think they were fighting. "And people still think we're fighting," she said, adding, "We're a musical marriage." When Fallon asked if the pair intended to record new music together, Brandy replied that "it opens the door, for sure." The tour kicks off in Cincinnati Oct. 16 and concludes in Houston Dec. 7.

After their 1998 megahit "The Boy is Mine," Brandy and Monica will embark on their first-ever joint tour. Brandy and Monica haven't had enough, and they're headed to a city near you. The R&B powerhouses are set to hit the road on The Boy is Mine Tour, pegged to their 1998 megahit of the same name. The record, which spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, became one of the defining music moments of the '90s. The Grammy Award-winning duo would go on to release platinum-selling records and inspire a new generation of artists, including Ariana Grande, whose own "The Boy is Mine" record featured a remix with the pair in 2024. Now embarking on their first coheadlining tour, Brandy and Monica will be joined by singers Kelly Rowland, Muni Long and 2025 "American Idol" winner Jamal Roberts. The 24-city The Boy is Mine Tour will kick off in Cincinnati this October and wrap up in Houston in December. Here's what to know about the tour. The singers, who collaborated on the 1998 hit song "The Boy is Mine," released a Boy is Mine Tour teaser video Tuesday. The trailer shows an apparent jail warden walking a new hire to her office, where she is told not to let Brandy and Monica hear one another. "This is a maximum sound asylum. We keep sounds from getting out," he explains. "These two could destroy the world as we know it if they hear each other. All I care about is that you keep that from happening." "It just finally felt like the right time," Brandy said in an interview on CBS Mornings. "And I'm just so honored to be here." "The Boy is Mine" appeared on Brandy's 1998 album Never Say Never and Monica's album The Boy is Mine, released that same year.

R&B divas Brandy and Monica are bringing their 'The Boy is Mine' Tour to Indianapolis this fall. The tour, hitting Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Oct. 19, marks the first time the two Grammy winners are co-headlining. The outing is built around their 1998 duet 'The Boy is Mine,' which spent 13 consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Also on the tour are more Grammy winners — Kelly Rowland and Muni Long — as well as 'American Idol' season 23 winner Jamal Roberts. The 24-city tour kicks off on Oct. 16 at Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, and concludes Dec. 7 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Showtime in Indianapolis is at 7 p.m. The general sale for tickets starts June 27th at 10 a.m. at *Muni Long will not perform.
