In new A24 movie 'Eternity,' Elizabeth Olsen must choose between 2 dead husbands
When you die, should you spend eternity with your first husband or your last? That's the question at the center of 'Eternity' — watch the trailer now. Picture this: You die and get to choose how you want to spend forever — which includes your one true love. Sounds pretty sweet, right? Unfortunately, in the case of the new A24 movie Eternity, which dropped its first trailer on Tuesday, the sweet hereafter comes with a catch: You have two dead husbands, and they're both vying for a spot next to you in the afterlife. Eep! Eternity stars Elizabeth Olsen as Joan, the woman in question, who dies shortly after the death of her second husband, Larry, played by Miles Teller. But while Teller's character is eager to get a jump on the rest of their immortal lives, his wife's first husband, Luke, played by The Boys in the Boat actor Callum Turner, appears. Apparently, Luke died in 'the war' decades earlier — and he's been waiting for his wife to arrive to kickstart his own eternity ever since. So, how do you pick?! While the movie will, we hope, answer that question, people who watched the new trailer offered their thoughts in the YouTube comments. Some people thought the ending was reminiscent of Titanic, in which Rose (played by Kate Winslet) seemingly spends the afterlife with her pals on the sunken ship, and her lover-of-two-days Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) instead of the husband she spent more than 40 years raising a family with. Most people, however, saw Joan picking second husband, Larry, in the end. 'Prediction: Miles Teller wins his wife by giving her his blessing to choose Callum Turner instead of him, because he just wants his wife to be happy and her new husband turns out to be too selfish to do the same, proving Miles Teller cares more about Elizabeth Olsen and that she should pick him,' one wrote. Another said, 'Not me immediately wanting to cry just thinking about how hard it is going to be for her to followed by me thinking, 'Can't all three of them just be together for eternity?'' The idea that Olsen's character may not need to choose resonated with another viewer, who wrote, 'I hope Elizabeth Olsen makes a world for all three of them.' And another joked, 'OMG imagine dying and realizing that compulsory monogamy exists even in the afterlife.' While a throuple is certainly a possibility, Teller's character doesn't believe that it's the best route. When he sees how his wife's former spouse is laying on the romance, he vows to make her remember why she fell for him in the first place. But will it be enough to get to spend eternity with his one true love? Eternity is directed by David Freyne and will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Freyne is credited as cowriter of the film along with former Obama White House aide Patrick Cunnane, whose original script appeared on the 2022 Black List of Hollywood's best unproduced screenplays. George Clooney's 'fantastic' period drama you only have days to watch before axe
The biographical sports drama is currently available to stream on BBC iPlayer George Clooney's 2023 directorial venture, The Boys in the Boat, is a biographical sports drama adapted from Daniel James Brown's 2013 book of the same name. With a screenplay by Mark L. Smith and produced by Clooney himself, this period drama premiered in Los Angeles in December 2023, followed by a theatrical release. The Boys in the Boat raked in an estimated $55 million at the box office. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics upon its release, it was a hit with audiences. While the film holds a 57 per cent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience rating stands at a remarkable 96 per cent. The film brings to life the inspiring true story of the University of Washington's underdog rowing team. It focuses on the team's determined coach Al Ulbrickson (played by Joel Edgerton) and master boatbuilder George Pocock (portrayed by Peter Guinness), who along with the rest of the team, overcame personal hardships and economic class struggles during the Great Depression to compete in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, reports the Express. The film is currently available for streaming on BBC iPlayer until 15 June. While some critics lauded the film's direction: "George Clooney's disarmingly old-school rowing movie gets it right." Others were less impressed: "It's time to ask the question, 'Is there any genre that George Clooney can't direct ... badly?'". One critic described the film, saying: "The Boys in the Boat is an old-fashioned and solid historical biography that ticks a lot of the right boxes. "It's not going to set tongues wagging but what it does do is tell an inspiring story with polish and a deftness befitting the genre." Another offered a more critical view: "Clooney just doesn't tell us enough about either the boys or the boat." A balanced critique of the movie read: "A film that often feels like one has walked into an oil painting: well-crafted, lovely to look at, and rather old-fashioned." Audience reactions were overwhelmingly positive, with one viewer enthusing: "Movies based on a true story are my favorite. George Clooney in my opinion did an awesome job. "The cast was great. The races on the water were filmed phenomenally exciting!! This movie got an applause from all who watched it in the theater!!!" Another viewer expressed their admiration for the film and its effect on them: "I love the historical drama genre. I've seen this movie 3 times in one year. It's so good and inspiring. George Clooney is a really good director. "The actors did an amazing job. The first time I watched this was right before the Paris Olympics started, which made me want to watch the rowers during the actual Olympics." One viewer described it as: "A truly inspiring story while still being entertaining. The historical context is accurate, and the casting is phenomenal. Don't be surprised if you see Dua Lipa 'Levitating' with happiness. The singer confirmed during an interview with British Vogue that she is engaged to actor Callum Turner, telling the publication 'it's very exciting' and expressing her pleasure with the ring he had made 'after consulting her best friends and her sister'. 'I'm obsessed with it. It's so me,' she said. 'It's nice to know the person that you're going to spend the rest of your life with knows you very well.' However, don't look for any wedding photos anytime soon. 'I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting, so we're just enjoying this period,' she said. 'I've never been someone who's really thought about a wedding, or dreamt about what kind of bride I would be. All of a sudden I'm like: 'Oh, what would I wear?'' For now, she's enjoying being engaged. 'This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don't know, be best friends forever – it's a really special feeling,' she said. Turner has starred in 'Masters of the Air' and 'The Boys in the Boat,' among other projects. The two first sparked speculation they were a couple in January 2024. They met at The River Cafe in London, where they were introduced by the restaurant's co-founder, Ruth Rogers, when the singer was having dinner with her father and the actor was out with friends.
