The Boyz to return as 10-member act, with 10th EP

The Boyz is set to bring out its 10th EP 'a;effect' on July 28, its agency One Hundred announced Monday. A teaser video hinted that the upcoming release will be full of youthful energy, showing the members having a good time, riding bicycles and being silly in the rain. The EP comes only about four months since its third studio album 'Unexpected.' The album, its first endeavor since it signed with One Hundred, sold over 740,000 copies in the first week, a record for the band. The new EP will mark the first step The Boyz takes as a 10-piece act, after Ju Haknyeon was booted out last month over a scandal. After the release of the mini album, it will kick off its fourth international tour, starting with three shows in Seoul.

Singer Ju Hak-nyeon cleared of charges over alleged prostitution activities

Ju Hak-nyeon had denied paying for sex with former Japanese adult actress Kirara Asuka. Photo: Ju Hak-nyeon/Instagram South Korean singer Ju Hak-nyeon, formerly of K-pop boy band The Boyz, will not face charges after he was accused of being involved in prostitution activities. The 26-year-old was in June when the South Korean media reported that his then agency, One Hundred Label, had received an enquiry from Japanese tabloid Shukan Bunshun about his personal meeting with Kirara Asuka, a Japanese adult film actress-turned-influencer, in Tokyo in late May. A South Korean media outlet claimed that he had allegedly paid for sex with the 36-year-old woman. The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul then received a complaint on June 19 from a netizen requesting an investigation into Ju. On July 2, South Korean media outlet Sports Kyunghyang reported that the police had decided on June 25 not to prosecute Ju, as the complaint was based on an Internet article and that there were insufficient specific reasons or circumstances to initiate an investigation. Ju had admitted on June 19 in a letter of apology on Instagram Stories to meeting Asuka, but denied rumours of being involved in prostitution activities. The apology came after he was booted from The Boyz on June 18. He wrote another post on Instagram on June 20, threatening to take legal action against media outlets which continued to spread false information about him. He also said that he was removed from The Boyz with no valid reasons and that his contract termination was done unilaterally by One Hundred Label. The company defended its decision on the same day, saying that he was suspended as the controversy had affected The Boyz's activities and that it provided grounds for contract termination. One Hundred Label warned that it would take legal action against Ju if he continued to repeat the distorted claims. Asuka broke her silence on social media platform X on June 21, saying that she had never accepted money for private sexual services, including during the encounter with Ju. The singer then took to social media on June 22, denying the prostitution allegation again and detailing the sequence of events leading to his sacking from The Boyz. South Korean newspaper The Korea Herald said that a court ruling is expected to determine whether the contract termination is lawful. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

Asuka Kirara defends Ju Haknyeon after prostitution case dismissal

Asuka Kirara, a former Japanese adult film actress, has reiterated her defense of former The Boyz member Ju Haknyeon, who was recently cleared of prostitution allegations. During a livestream on Tuesday, she addressed growing speculation about her alleged involvement in a private gathering that contributed to Ju's sudden exit from the K-pop group. Kirara explained she was simply attending a male friend's birthday party and had no prior knowledge Ju would be there. 'There were designers and other people. No one invited me because of him,' she said, dismissing rumors that she was used to elevate someone's public image. Although Ju had mentioned being a fan, Kirara denied any personal involvement, stating they had no physical or romantic connection. 'That was my first time meeting him. There was no three-day relationship,' she said, criticizing Japanese tabloid Shukan Bunshun for spreading false claims. 'So much misinformation is being circulated.' She questioned the motives behind Ju's expulsion from the group, saying, 'I don't understand how this led to his expulsion. It seems like someone wanted him gone or was hiding something else.' She added that despite Ju being 'handsome,' she 'never touched him, never hugged him,' and emphasized there was no physical relationship. Earlier, she posted on social media, 'I have never privately received money for sex, not once in my life — and that includes this time.' On Wednesday, police in Seoul's Gangnam District officially dismissed the prostitution charge against Ju, citing insufficient grounds for investigation. The case began June 18 when Shukan Bunshun reported Ju met Kirara at a Tokyo bar. Ju maintains his innocence and has announced plans to take legal action against the journalist, media outlet, and the individual who filed the complaint, citing defamation and false reporting.

K-pop idol and former The Boyz member Ju Hak-nyeon found not guilty in prostitution case, vows legal action

SEOUL, July 2 — South Korean police have cleared Ju Hak-nyeon, former member of K-pop boy group The Boyz, of prostitution allegations following an investigation. According to Korea JoongAng Daily, the Gangnam Police Precinct confirmed today that Ju's case would not be referred to prosecutors due to a lack of evidence. Police said the individual who filed the complaint against Ju had only submitted online news articles as evidence, which they deemed insufficient to continue the investigation. Ju's exclusive contract with agency One Hundred Label was terminated last month after Japanese tabloid Shukan Bunshun reported that he had met privately with Japanese model and influencer Asuka Kirara, who has previously worked in the adult film industry. Other reports accused Ju of engaging in prostitution, leading to a complaint filed on June 19 requesting a formal police investigation. At the time, One Hundred Label cited 'breach of trust' as its reason for ending Ju's contract. Ju has repeatedly denied the allegations of prostitution and illegal activities. He has said he will file a civil suit against the reporter and media outlet that first published the allegations, as well as pursue legal action against his former agency and the individual who reported him to the police. Ju debuted with The Boyz in 2017 and officially left the group earlier this year.
