Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Since its premiere on ITV in 2009, The Chase has become one of the most beloved quiz shows in the annals of British television. Presented by Bradley Walsh, this fast-paced game sees eager contestants trying to outwit 'The Chaser' in a bid to secure a cash prize. Currently, there are six official Chasers on the programme: Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis. Each Chaser has their own moniker on the show and have become familiar faces in homes across the country, thanks to the success of the show and their appearances on the ITV spin-off, Beat the Chasers. But who is the top Chaser of them all? New research conducted by Betway has looked at factors such as accuracy, win rate, and highest target caught to determine the ultimate Chaser. Viewers might be taken aback to learn that when it comes to financial success, Paul Sinha takes the crown, reports the Daily Record. (Image: ITV) Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha boasts a 78 per cent win rate over his 436 appearances on The Chase. The quiz whizz's average target to beat stands at 19 and he holds the record for the highest average Chaser win total, raking in £14,651, making him the most financially successful chaser on the show. Meanwhile, Mark Labbett, also known as 'The Beast', has a 76 per cent win rate over 475 episodes since he first appeared on the show in 2009. Mark, the original Chaser of the show, holds the record for the highest average target to beat, at 20, and the highest accuracy in the final chase, answering 83% of questions correctly. On the other hand, Anne Hegerty, known as 'The Governess', is ranked as the top Chaser on television. With 467 appearances and a win rate of 79% - the joint highest of any Chaser - it's no surprise she's viewed as the most formidable opponent. In the final chase, Anne averages 13 correct answers within the 60-second timeframe, with an average target of 19, the second highest among her colleagues. Who is the most successful chaser on The Chase? Here are the data comparisons between Chasers Anne, Mark and Paul: Anne Hegerty - 467 appearances - 85 per cent accuracy - 79 per cent Chaser win rate - win total £12,815 Mark Labbett - 475 appearances - 83 per cent accuracy - 76 per cent Chaser win rate - win total £13,844 Paul Sinha - 436 appearances - 84 per cent accuracy - 78 per cent Chaser win rate - win total £14,651 The latest newcomer to the ITV programme is Darragh 'The Menace' Ennis who joined the show in November 2020. ITV The Chase fans all say same thing as show 'ruined' by 'team's decision'
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The Chase enthusiasts were unified in their reactions following a nail-biting instalment of the popular ITV quiz show. The episode featured hopeful quizzers David, Tom, Samantha, and Danae making up the team challenging one of Britain's sharpest minds. David stepped up first to showcase his general knowledge prowess, racking up an impressive £7,000 during the Cash Builder round before a high-stakes clash with The Chaser, Mark Labbett, affectionately known as The Beast. Though tempted by a huge £70,000 higher offer, he opted to play for his earned cash, aiming for a place in the final showdown. READ MORE - Baggage handler issues urgent warning to anyone 'tying a ribbon on their suitcase' READ MORE - Wimbledon breaks protocol as BBC commentator 'left in tears' over scenes Regrettably, David saw his game cut short when The Beast caught up with him, leaving host Bradley Walsh to deliver the grim news: "You have been caught and for you The Chase is over." Samantha followed, hoping to lay down a stronger foundation for the team's prize pot. Viewers were flabbergasted when she accepted a lowly £1,000 from The Beast's offer lineup, reports the Liverpool Echo. Successfully beating The Beast back to her team, Tom seemed to draw inspiration from Samantha's cautious approach, also accepting a modest £1,000 which took the burgeoning prize fund to a mere £2,000. Despite their successful bouts, the conservative gameplay led to fans expressing their dismay online. Flocking to X, a fan lamented: "Why do these people bother applying to go on the show? ?" while another voiced frustration: "What a waste of time." The Chase viewers were left fuming after contestants repeatedly took low offers, with one fan writing on social media: "Seriously? Low again? Remember when low offers were a rarity?" Another viewer chimed in: "Beat The Chasers is so much a better show than #thechase. The low offer takers have totally ruined this show." When contestants Tom and Samantha secured their spots in the final chase, host Bradley Walsh commented: "You could've gone for it but we'll never know." He then welcomed Danae, the final contestant of the episode. Bradley was hopeful that Danae would take a risk and go for the high offer, but she disappointed viewers by rejecting The Chaser's whopping offer of £188,000 to play it safe with £2,000. While Bradley expressed surprise at her decision, The Beast deemed it "absolutely understandable." Despite her controversial choice, Danae sailed through her head-to-head against The Beast, boosting the shared prize pot to £4,000. Upon realising the team could've been playing for a quarter of a million pounds if they had all taken The Chaser's higher offers, Bradley remarked: "What is going on on The Chase recently? Very very high figures and money." He then joked: "I'm gonna have a go at this." Fans took to social media to express their disappointment, with one dubbing the episode as the "Worst game of #TheChase ever witnessed." Another agreed: "£4,000 shared among 3 if they win. That's why The Chase is not worth watching anymore." In the final chase, contestants Tom, Danae and Samantha managed to rack up a commendable score of 20. However, it wasn't enough to secure victory against The Beast, resulting in the participants leaving the show without any winnings.

Nat. security guidelines not ‘targeted' at specific events, says education chief after school's US consular event warning
National security guidelines for Hong Kong schools do not target specific events, education minister Christine Choi said, following reports that school principals had been warned against joining US Independence Day celebrations. The US consulate in the city has slammed what it called 'repression' by local authorities In an interview with select media outlets, Choi addressed allegations that schools were warned not to take part in Independence Day activities hosted by Washington's diplomatic mission, saying that the authorities were only addressing 'doubts' from the schools. An unnamed school principal's remarks were quoted last month in a post by Edu Lancet, a social media page which describes itself as a platform for 'voicing concerns' about Hong Kong's education sector. The message cited a reminder from the Education Bureau reminding teachers to be 'careful' about the consulate's Independence Day celebrations. The principal advised against taking part in the celebrations 'to avoid violating the national security law and Hong Kong laws.' The message said: 'If you learn that there are students participating, please put the protection of students first and discourage them from doing so.' Earlier, the Education Bureau only said that 'schools have the responsibility to properly carry out their role as gatekeepers and enhance teachers' and students' sensitivity to national security.' A US Consulate spokesperson responded: 'We condemn the Hong Kong government's repression of U.S. Independence Day celebrations and interference in U.S. Consulate General-hosted events. Its attempts to characterize these activities as 'unlawful' only further reveals its insecurity and fear of freedom.' The spokesperson said that US embassies and consulates worldwide celebrate the occasion every year. 'Other foreign missions do the same. This year is no different,' the statement read. 'Self-evaluation checklist' Education chief Choi said that the authorities had 'never' issued notices targeting specific persons or events, but would regularly address schools' queries. Choi said that a self-evaluation checklist on national security affairs issued to schools was updated in April, with updated terms on procurement, manpower, and school outings, though it did not target specific organisations or individuals. According to an April announcement, the evaluation checklist sets out suggestions 'covering national security work planning, monitoring mechanisms, learning and teaching and related resources, school activities, personnel management and training, and home-school co-operation.' She also questioned whether the incident amounted to a 'diplomatic crisis,' as described by The Chaser, without naming the diaspora media outlet. 'I don't see how this could become a crisis. For this to become a political crisis because an online media outlet said so, wouldn't that be an exaggeration?' she said. In an earlier interview with Beijing-backed newspaper Wen Wei Po, Choi said that the EDB had issued 'clear guidelines' to schools, including ordering them to conduct background checks on external organisations to ensure there were no 'anti-China disruptors' and to review their own off-campus activities and books to prevent the proliferation of 'illegal and harmful information'.

ITV The Chase's Paul Sinha 'hands in notice' as player wins huge jackpot
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Bradley Walsh cheekily suggested that Paul Sinha might "hand his notice in" after an "unbelievable" episode of the famous ITV quiz programme The Chase, which saw a new set of four contenders—Ian, Jennie, Gregor, and Karen—step up to challenge one of the nation's brightest quizzers. Ian, a London-based magician, was first to take on The Sinnerman, earning a respectable £6,000 in the Cash Builder before successfully securing his place in the final chase, thus kickstarting the prize pot for the team. Jennie followed suit, contributing another £5,000 to the kitty, but her run was cut short as Bradley announced her exit: "You have been caught and for you, The Chase is over", after The Chaser caught up with her. Similarly, Gregor's journey ended at the hands of The Sinnerman. Paul Sinha deadpanned about her daring decision: "This is either brilliant news for Ian, or terrible news for Ian." Karen's audacity sparked a flurry of reactions online, with one viewer impressed, commenting: "Karen didn't even stutter taking that high offer,". Another showed their encouragement, posting: "Good girl!" And yet another voiced their support online, stating, "We just cheered for her.", reports Devon Live. (Image: ITV) (Image: ITV) (Image: ITV) Karen's strategic risk-taking on 'The Chase' paid off handsomely as she breezed through her round against The Sinnerman, Paul Sinha, securing a spot in the final alongside Ian and boosting their jackpot to a staggering £100,000. Viewers were gripped by the excitement and took to social media urging others: "If you're not watching #TheChase switch over quick" to witness Karen and Ian's pursuit of the hefty prize. The pair managed to correctly answer 16 questions in the final chase. In a surprising turn of events, The Sinnerman was unable to catch up with their score, missing out by just one question as the clock ticked down to its last second. Bradley Walsh commented on the tense conclusion: "That was close." After the thrilling win, The Chaser acknowledged their triumph, stating: "You absolutely deserve every penny of that." Despite feeling the sting of defeat and the impact of the loss on ITV's finances, he added: "I've cost ITV £100,000 but you don't need to care about any of that." Bradley couldn't help but make light of the situation, jokingly saying to The Sinnerman: "That's a funny way to hand in your notice." He went on to call the match "unbelievable", with both Ian and Karen taking home an incredible £50,000 each. As they discussed their plans for the winnings, Ian shared his intention to buy a new car, while Karen looked forward to spoiling her son with a trip to the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix.
