Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona and Kyle Marvin Star in Trailer for Michael Angelo Covino's ‘Splitsville'
Marriages crumble, crash and intertwine in the official trailer for Splitsville. Following a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last month, Neon and Topic Studios released the trailer for director Michael Angelo Covino's and co-writer Kyle Marvin's second feature Monday. The open-marriage comedy stars Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, Corvino and Marvin, with Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda, O-T Fagbenle and Charlie Gillespie rounding out the cast. More from The Hollywood Reporter Nanni Moretti Teaming With Louis Garrel, Jasmine Trinca on New Film Celine Song on How 'Materialists' Subverts the Rom-Com With a "Really Frank Conversation" How Celine Song's 'Materialists' Approaches New York City Wealth The trailer unveils a series of nail-biting, raunchy and hilarious moments. The film's synopsis is as follows: 'After Ashley (Arjona) asks for a divorce, good-natured Carey (Marvin) runs to his friends, Julie (Johnson) and Paul (Covino), for support. He's shocked to discover that the secret to their happiness is an open marriage, that is until Carey crosses the line and throws all of their relationships into chaos.' Splitsville serves as a reunion for Corvino and Marvin, whose first feature, The Climb, premiered at Cannes in 2019. While both films highlight the aftermath of getting involved with the other's significant other, Splitsville shows the writing duo expanding into broader material. 'After we made The Climb, Kyle and I started working on a couple of different stories and scripts that were a bit bigger — different themes, different kinds of worlds,' Covino told THR ahead of the film's Cannes premiere. 'This project really came out of a desire to get back to something we could make in a more contained way. Something we didn't have to ask for a ton of permission to do.' Splitsville is slated to hit theaters Aug. 22. Miley Cyrus' Magnifique Mash-Up of ‘The Climb' & ‘We Can't Stop,' Plus More Highlights Inside Paris Spotify Concert
As fortunate fans spilled into the intimate and sweaty Maxim's de Paris on Wednesday night (June 18), no one knew exactly what to expect. Vocals? For sure. Fashion? Absolutely. This is Miley Cyrus, after all. But when the superstar combined two of her biggest hits – none other than 'The Climb' and 'We Can't Stop' – into a special one-off medley, fans were floored. 'We put this together just for all of you tonight,' shared Cyrus, in her first of two Mugler looks. More from Billboard Miley Cyrus Teases Spotify Billions Club Live Show in Paris (And a Concert Film Is Coming, Too) Rachel Zegler Serenades Crowd Outside Theater for Free in a New London Production of 'Evita' Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis to Receive Vanguard Award at The Guitar Center Music Foundation Gala & Benefit Concert The special and career-spanning fusion – reminiscent of two distinct times in the pop star's life – was fitting for an equally special evening. Cyrus hadn't performed in Paris for over 10 years, and she made sure her grand return was well worth the wait. The evening's set was for Spotify's Billions Club Live, making Cyrus only the second artist, after The Weeknd, to ever earn a Billions Club concert. (As Spotify previously confirmed to Billboard, Cyrus' Billions Club Live show was filmed to be released later this summer.) Despite such a massive milestone, Cyrus stayed true to form and kept the setting and guest list rather intimate, with only a few hundred fans packed into Maxim's downstairs venue. But unlike her famed Chateau Marmont sets in Los Angeles or her recent performance at an equally intimate New York space — all in support of her latest album, Something Beautiful — Wednesday night was perhaps the most wide-ranging setlist fans have enjoyed for some time. Thanks to the nature of Spotify's Billions Club Live, Cyrus' set was a tight hour (including an outfit change) of her biggest hits on the platform — all of which, yes, have reached more than 1 billion streams. (On the pre-show playlist, deep cuts including 'Cattitude' off her She Is Coming EP satiated superfans.) 'Being a part of the Billions Club is only a part of me – it's an honor, but in no means is it holistic,' Cyrus said. 'Each of you are a piece of a billion, and without each of you, the billion doesn't even exist. That's how important and crucial you are to the success in my life. The confidence and goals that I have achieved [is] because of you and your support. And I've never really been too interested in numbers because math is done from the mind, but true authentic beauty is from the heart.' During her set, Cyrus demonstrated just how much of her heart has always been in her hits – and is likely what has pushed these in particular to become some of her biggest. During opener 'Flowers,' she emphasized and riffed on the line 'no regrets, baby' while holding up a bouquet of flowers gifted by a fan. And while introducing 'The Climb,' she shared that the song is 'inspired by the effort and the struggles that it takes to become the person you want to be. … I truly believe the most authentic version of yourself is deep within the struggle. … Everything in my life that I can stand here and be proud of at one point was towering over me like a mountain.' (The mere mention of a mountain elicited emphatic cheering.) And before performing her Plastic Hearts hit 'Angels Like You' accompanied by nothing more than a piano, Cyrus told her fans: 'You are the earth angels that make my life heaven.' And in another unexpected twist, she performed the impassioned 'Wrecking Ball' next while still backed by only keys. After an outfit and hairdo change – from teased waves and a Mugler dress dripping with crystals to an updo with a Mugler crystal corset and suit jacket – Cyrus returned to the stage alongside her full backing band, which included a four-person string section and guitarist Maxx Morando. A front-row fan declared that Cyrus looked 'super French,' to which Cyrus replied that they've actually been discussing what to name her current backing band, before concluding that 'Super French' was the best idea they've heard yet. Cyrus then closed the show with a one-two punch of Something Beautiful standouts: 'End of the World' and 'More to Lose.' Before performing the latter, she said, 'A lot of my songs are about resilience, and I'm very proud of that,' noting that the theme of resilience is one not only personal to her and her music, but that is universally felt – and desperately needed right now. Halfway through 'More to Lose,' she turned to Morando and said she's tired of crying and wanted to do something a bit more fun. The solution? 'Easy Lover.' Cyrus performed the song with an extended outro, during which she strutted from one side of the small stage to the other, blowing kisses to fans who were within arm's length before returning to its center to take a bow. And after showing off her outfit one last time, Cyrus seamlessly disappeared behind thick red velvet curtains, as if bringing her 'End of the World' lyric to life: 'Let's go to Paris, I don't care if we get lost in the scene.' As the wide-eyed expressions across the room proved, there's hardly a better scene to get lost in. Miley Cyrus faces backlash over 'disrespectful' behaviour at fan event
Miley Cyrus and Naomi Campbell have been slammed for their behaviour (Picture: MEGA) Miley Cyrus is facing serious heat over 'ignoring' fans at a meet and greet, instead chatting to Naomi Campbell. The duo were in London for the launch of Miley's album film Something Beautiful, having collaborated on new single, Every Girl You've Ever Loved. Eager fans waited in line for the chance to meet the Flowers hitmaker and the legendary supermodel — but that excitement didn't last long. Those who had queued for hours at the Rough Trade store were left disappointed and many felt the duo had 'ignored' them. As seen in various clips on social media, Miley, 32, and Naomi, 55, chatted away at the table, barely pausing their conversation as fans approached. The air was uncomfortable as the singer and model awkwardly took pictures, signed the vinyls and the fans were ushered on. Fans felt they were 'ignored' by the stars (Picture: Miley Cyrus/Instagram) Miley posted on Instagram she 'adored' meeting the fans and thanking them for attending the signing. She opened her post by praising Naomi for making her laugh, thanking her for coming and adding: 'I'll miss you until we reunite. Love you forever.' The Climb icon was torn apart in the comments by disgruntled fans, blasting her for not 'reading the room'. 'Sorry to everyone who went and got a photo with them talking to one another,' commented leannems, which racked up almost 2,000 likes. 'The way you ignored your fans lol,' said emmanvelsoto as danttttas added: 'girl, i mean, READ THE ROOM.' 'Girl you were very rude to your fans at this signing,' slammed blackmagicblues while andresilvaf said: 'Treat your fans better next time.' 'Absolutely shocking behaviour of you pair on the signing… These are your fans Miley, they can quickly change their minds,' warned gregggless. Some did defend Miley, with X account The Miley Cyrus HQ writing: 'With the whole Naomi x Miley incident all I can say is… 'She paid for ALL the vinyls. Her Instagram only said 'signed vinyl' and she literally was there. That's a bonus. She did NOT have to be there. It was one interaction out of a 100. That's a 1 % 'error'. TLDR: stfu.' Miley has a long history of being respectful and interactive with her fans as well as plenty of philanthropic work supporting homeless people and LGBTQ+ youth. They were signing vinyls and posing for snaps(Picture: Miley Cyrus/Instagram) Miley's film Something Beautiful is out soon (Picture: Miley Cyrus/Instagram) However, this film release has already faced some backlash as fans thought they were paying $800 for a concert – not a film premiere. At New York's Beacon Theatre on June 6, the hour-long film debuted but complaints emerged claiming they'd been misled into believing the premiere would feature a live performance. The Wrecking Ball hitmaker did launch into a cappella rendition of The Climb (from her Hannah Montana days) in response. Miley and Naomi have not addressed the controversy, with the Angels Like You singer posting multiple Instagrams in the wake of the meet and greet. She penned: 'Getting lost in London… dancing with you all to the music was heaven. I've never experienced the film like this before.' In a subtle response, she posted plenty of pictures of fans having a good time at her intimate gig, with one snap showing her taking a selfie with someone in the crowd. Golden Guitar glory for rising star
New Zealand's next country music sensation may have been unearthed in Christchurch. St Mark's School year 7 pupil Cleo Fitzgerald, 11, recently took to the stage in Gore for the annual Golden Guitar Awards, where she won the junior vocal solo and junior gospel categories and was crowned the overall junior gold guitar winner. 'It didn't feel real, did it?' her mum, Ella Fitzgerald, asked her daughter. 'It didn't, no,' Cleo said. 'There's all that adrenaline and wondering 'am I going to win? Am I going to lose?' When you finally get called up it's like, wow.' Adding to the occasion, this year marked the 50th anniversary of New Zealand's biggest country music festival. The awards were Cleo's first major singing competition. Encouraged by vocal coach Arlie McCormick, she decided to audition, and the family headed to Gore with no expectations. Cleo, who lives in Lyttelton, auditioned with about 20 others in the country rock, gospel and vocal solo categories and advanced to the finals in all three. 'Even that in itself, we were pretty amazed by. We were jumping up and down,' Ella said. The next day, Cleo performed in front of more than 500 people – her largest ever audience. 'It was pretty terrifying for her, but also so much fun. She's born to be on stage,' Ella said. Cleo sang My Jesus by Anne Wilson in the gospel category and Miley Cyrus' The Climb for her vocal solo – the performance that won her the overall junior title. She was also second in the country rock category for her rendition of Hold My Horses by Madeline Edwards. Her overall win also earned Cleo an invitation to perform and compete at the Golden Guitar Awards in Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia's country music capital, in January. The city's annual country music festival attracts more than 40,000 people. The trip will cost about $3500, and Cleo and her family are now fundraising to get her there. 'If we raise enough money, I'm going to be so excited,' Cleo said. Along with her title, Cleo also received a Martin guitar, a microphone from Strawberry Sound, $500, a year's honorary membership at the Gore Country Music Club, and $100 for each category she won. Cleo has been singing since she could talk and has not stopped. Whether she is walking around the house, in the kitchen or doing homework, the music follows her. 'We often say our house is like a musical,' Ella said. When she was five, Cleo sang A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman in front of a crowd. That is when Ella knew she had something special. Today, Cleo listens to everything from country and jazz to pop and musical theatre. Her favourite artist is Sabrina Carpenter. She is also keeping busy off the competition stage. Cleo will be playing Marty the Zebra in her school's production of Madagascar , and will be performing her own show, and taking part in Shay Horay's Palava at the Lyttelton Arts Festival. 'The main thing is keeping it fun for her. We're just concentrating on that and if she gets too tired we can pull back,' Ella said. Cleo has to serve a stand down period from competing in the Golden Guitar Awards until she turns 13 and is eligible for the intermediate section. In the meantime, she will return next year to perform and present trophies to the new winners.
