Roos have much to celebrate, but old guard aren't all in the mood to party

North Melbourne Football Club is marking its centenary on Thursday night at Marvel Stadium with a special match against the Bulldogs – but not everyone wants to celebrate. Not only is the club celebrating the centenary of its admittance into the VFL/AFL, but it is also paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of its historic premiership victory in 1975 against Hawthorn. And the club's historic AFLW win last year. That's a lot for president Sonja Hood and chief executive Jennifer Watt to organise. The club wiped its debts a few years back but is not exactly rolling in it. First, the good news. Attending from the famous 1975 team are AFL Hall of Fame Legend Malcolm Blight, two-time Brownlow medallist Keith Greig, legendary fullback David Dench, 306-game player Wayne Schimmelbusch and champion defender John 'Mopsy' Rantall, as well as teammates Peter Chisnall, Frank Gumbleton, Ross Henshaw and Gary Farrant. Those no longer with us are Barry Davis – the Kangaroos' 1975 team captain – Mick Nolan, Paul Feltham and legendary AFL figure and 1975 coach Ron Barassi, who died two years ago. Then there are those who are simply not coming. Premiership player Sam Kekovich, famous for his radio commentary 'rants', is carrying his combustible style into real life and boycotting the event, apparently on the basis that he wanted a separate gala dinner to honour the 1975 team rather than a combined do. OK Boomer. The disgraced Barry Cable, who was stripped of his club and AFL honours after a Perth judge in civil proceedings ruled he had sexually abused a girl, is not coming. Brent 'Tiger' Crosswell, an Age columnist and said to be one of the inspirations for a character in David Williamson 's renowned football play, The Club, can't travel due to long-term illness. Arnold Briedis is overseas.

Growing ownership group buys oceanside Massachusetts golf course

Growing ownership group buys oceanside Massachusetts golf course Concert Golf Partners, a Central Florida-based company that owns a growing list of golf courses and clubs around the country, announced Tuesday that it has purchased The Club at New Seabury in Mashpee, Massachusetts. Concert Golf Partners acquired New Seabury from IE Homes, Clubs and Resorts for an undisclosed price. The 300-acre oceanfront property near Cape Cod features 36 holes — the Ocean Course and the Dunes Course — plus a beach club and two dozen guest cottages and condos. The club is mostly private but does offer stay-and-play packages via its rental properties. The purchase expands Concert Golf Partners' holdings to 39 golf and country clubs nationwide. 'To add an oceanfront club of New Seabury's caliber speaks to the premium level that Concert Golf Partners portfolio has ascended, and the trust home developers, private owners and club members put into our commitment to annually reinvest capital into our family of premier private clubs,' Concert Golf Partners Senior Vice President Jordan Peace said in a media release announcing the purchase.

Denise Van Outen, 51, puts on a very leggy display in a blue mini dress and purple metallic cowboy boots at the launch of The Club at The Other House

put on a very leggy display as she posed for sizzling snaps at the launch of The Club at The Other House in South Kensington on Thursday. The TV personality, 51, looked incredible in a plunging blue patterned mini dress, teamed with metallic purple cowboy boots. She accessorised with a gold and blue necklace while sat posing on a blue peacock feather throne. Olivia Cox was also in attendance, and looked stylish in a pink mini skirt, white T-shirt and black loafers. Denise's outing in London comes after her recent girls' trip in Ibiza, where she DJ'd at new club UNVRS. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Elsewhere, Denise admitted she took up golf to meet 'loads of men' in a hilarious confession on Saturday. Denise, who recently enjoyed a holiday to Maldives with a new man, candidly revealed her tactics for finding love. Denise explained how she turned to the sport over dating apps following her divorce from Lee Mead in 2013, after seeing all her male friends take it up. She has been a keen golfer since taking up sport in early 2014, and revealed the 'truth' behind her decision. 'The reason I got into it - this is the truth - it was after my divorce, and I wanted to go somewhere where there are just loads of men', she told Russell Kane on TUI's Pack Your Bags. Denise continued: 'I just went "Where can I go?" Because when you're young, you just go to a nightclub. 'And I was like "I'm not going to be able to do that now, and I just don't want to spend all night in the nightclub". I was like "Where have all the nightclubbers gone?" And I looked, and most of my male friends have grown up and got into golf. I thought "Perfect."' Denise is reportedly dating a new man 'in secret,' who was said to have joined her for a romantic holiday to the Maldives in April. The DJ and TV star allegedly enjoyed a 'string of dates' with a businessman called Adam Butler after her split from her ex Jimmy. He is said to have joined her in the Maldives while on a work trip after they were spotted on a date at Akira Black in London, according to The Sun . A friend told the publication: 'Denise loved being single and has been so busy with her TV work and DJ-ing but Adam is someone she's enjoyed spending time with. 'They went public last month on a date at Akira Black in the Mandarin Oriental in London. 'She is in a great place in her life, her career is soaring and Adam is a successful businessman, so they compliment each other so well.' The source also claimed that Denise's friends were 'thrilled she has found someone like Adam' as he 'treats her like a queen'. MailOnline have contacted Denise's representatives for comment. The reports of her blossoming romance come after Denise opened up about her dating struggles following her split from Jimmy. She has been single since splitting from Jimmy Barba in October 2023 and joined exclusive dating app Raya last year in the hopes of finding love again. But she admitted that she relies on dating apps to meet men as finding potential suitors has become harder since moving to the countryside. And in a new interview, she admitted that without dating app Raya, she wouldn't have much of a love life as meeting guys 'in real life' is not as easy while living in rural Kent. She told The Sun : 'Actually, for me, dating apps are a really good thing. I don't know how else I would meet people if I wasn't doing that.' 'When I was younger, there was the option to go out, but now I live in the country, it's not like I'm able to just go to the pub,' she added. 'Even if I went to my local, they're all my neighbours who I know anyway, so that's of no value to me.' Detailing how her only chance of meeting potential matches 'in real life' is online, she hinted that she has come across some celebrity suitors on exclusive dating app Raya. 'I'm still on my Raya dating app, I've gone on quite a few dates with different people, I've seen so many celebrities [on Raya], but you aren't allowed to say who is on there,' she teased. The former Big Breakfast host noted that while it's 'really fun' to use the app, she has awkwardly often found herself paired with one of her mates. She said she hasn't really been active on Raya over the winter months, but with summer fast approaching, she plans to change that, quipping: 'Watch this space.' The performer said being a single mother to her daughter Betsy, 14 - who she shares with ex-husband Lee Mead - makes it harder to meet new people as she can't go out at night. Even when she is out DJing, Denise said she is 'in and out' of the venue and 'doesn't hang around', lessening her chance of sparking up a romance with anyone there. She is seemingly keen to get back into the dating pool again after revealing she wasn't 'fussed' about being in a relationship last year. While she has been on a few dates, she said she wasn't putting pressure on herself to find a new partner because she's very content with her own company these days. Referencing the end of her engagement to Eddie Boxshall, who she split from in January 2022 after discovering he had been unfaithful, she told Fabulous magazine: 'I'm not fussed either way now. 'I'm really good friends with Tamzin Outhwaite and we were saying: ''Isn't it nice to actually just be loving life and not feel pressured to have to be in a relationship or be with someone?'' I've learned to be on my own and be content. 'This industry can feel pressurised, and then when things go wrong, it's so public. You worry that people see you as a failure. 'I wonder if people say: ''Why can't she hold down a relationship? History keeps repeating itself'', but I'm not chasing it now.' She added that her relationship with Eddie only got cut short because of what she discovered he had done, admitting that was the 'sad part' of the break-up. Denise said she was 'back to square one' but was trying to keep a 'positive outlook' and 'have an open heart'. After her devastating split from Eddie, Denise found love again with Jimmy Barba in July 2022, but they split after 18 months together.

Mao Saigo fires a 66 to lead U.S. Women's Open after the 2nd round's morning groupings

Mao Saigo, of Japan, hits from the 18th tee during the second round of the U.S. Women's Open golf tournament at Erin Hills Friday, May 30, 2025, in Erin, Wis. (AP Photo/Jeff Roberson) golf By STEVE MEGARGEE Mao Saigo posted a 6-under 66 to lead the U.S. Women's Open after the second round's Friday morning groupings at Erin Hills as she looks to win her second major of the year. Saigo's two-day total of 8-under 136 gives her a three-stroke advantage over Nelly Korda, the world's top-ranked player. Korda moved into second place by posting a 67. This was the best U.S. Women's Open round ever for Korda, who has never finished higher than a tie for eighth in this event. 'I feel like I've had a very complicated relationship with U.S. Opens,' Korda said, 'but I'm happy to be in the position I am heading into the weekend.' Saigo earned her first LPGA Tour title just over a month ago in the year's first major, as she sank a birdie putt to win a five-way playoff in the Chevron Championship at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. The 23-year-old from Japan bounced back from some early misfortune Friday to move atop the leaderboard. Saigo started out at No. 10 and birded No. 11 and No. 12. She bogeyed the par-5 No. 14 when she got a bad break, with her third shot hitting the flagstick, bouncing backward and rolling all the way to a bunker. But she recovered by getting four birdies in a five-hole stretch from No. 16 to No. 2. 'I thought that was not my mistake,' Saigo said through an interpreter. 'I just thought to myself that it was just unlucky, and then I just changed my mind.' Korda was nearly as effective. After not making a birdie until her 18th hole Thursday, Korda had seven of them Friday thanks to her improved putting. 'Honestly, I was hitting really good putts yesterday,' Korda said. 'I was hitting it exactly where I wanted to and they just weren't falling. It was one of those days. Today I did the same thing.' Jing Yan, Linn Grant and Chiara Tamburlini all finished their Friday morning sessions at 4 under for the tournament, putting them four strokes behind Saigo. Tamburlini was tied with Korda for second place before getting a bogey on No. 18. Thursday's first round had ended with Angel Yin, Julia Lopez Ramirez, 2020 champion A Lim Kim, Jinhee Im, Yealimi Noh and Rio Takeda in a six-way tie for the lead after all of them carded 68. Lopez Ramirez posted a 74 and Yin recorded a 75 on Friday morning, putting Lopez Ramirez at 2 under and Yin at 1 under for the tournament. Kim, Im, Noh and Takeda were set to tee off Friday afternoon on a course that measured 6,809 yards for the second round. © Copyright 2025 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
