Denise Richards's estranged husband claims she made up abuse claims
Aaron Phypers, left, and Denise Richards attend a premiere on Aug 8, 2024, in Los Angeles, California, US. Photo: TNS Aaron Phypers is claiming that Denise Richards manufactured allegations of abuse as a means to distract from an affair that he uncovered earlier this year. Less than two weeks after filing for divorce from the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills alum, 52-year-old Phypers told TMZ during a virtual interview that he learned his wife was cheating when he found illicit texts on her laptop back in February. He says he confronted Richards who begged Phypers not to leave her, assuring him she was 'so sorry' and 'won't do that again.' They decided to stay together, but Phypers says he later found texts going up until late May. Fast forward to July 4 weekend, Phypers claims Richards stole his phone and denied having it – at one point even 'hitting' and 'scratching' him when he questioned her about the device. Phypers says he found the phone a day later smashed in their recycling bin, but she continued to deny having anything to do with it. Asked why he thinks Richards would destroy his phone, Phypers says the device had photos of all the texts that would prove her alleged affair. Phypers filed for divorce on July 7, citing irreconcilable differences and asking for spousal support. Richards followed that earlier last week by requesting a temporary restraining order against Phypers, noting allegations of longstanding abuse including claims that he would 'violently choke' her and 'slam (her) head into the bathroom towel rack.' The court filing, obtained by TMZ, included a photo from 2022 showing Richards with a black eye, which she alleges her husband gave her. Phypers meanwhile insists it was the result of Richards taking a drunken fall at his office and hitting her head on 'a pole with a light on it.' Phypers claims other people were also present and can attest to the incident, adding that Richards 'falls down a lot and it's embarrassing. … It's scary.' Phypers asserts that he has never 'hit (his) wife in the face, ever,' but does admit to having forcefully grabbed her on various occasions. 'I grabbed and restrained her when she was punching Sami,' he claims of the 21-year-old daughter Richards shares with ex-husband Charlie Sheen. The exes also share daughter Lola, 20. Phypers says that Richards' allegations have put him in 'grave danger,' particularly on a financial level. 'The fact that she put this thing about me beating her, I'm like devastated,' he adds. 'I wanted to work it out. But she's gotta get help. It's not for me now, it's for herself and her daughters. I'm really worried about Eloise. It's not a good situation. … She's gotta get cleaned up and be responsible and own what she's doing.' Though Phypers confirmed in February that he'd become the adoptive father to Richards' 14-year-old adopted daughter Eloise, court documents say the spouses have 'no minor children' together. Prosecutors investigating group home accused in lawsuit of abusing Queens autistic man
Prosecutors are investigating a Long Island group home where a Queens mom says staff routinely abused and beat her adult autistic son for years. The Suffolk County district attorney's office confirmed Thursday, one day after the nonverbal autistic man's mother filed a federal lawsuit, that it has an 'open investigation' into allegations of abuse at the Life's WORC group home in East Islip. The Daily News was first to report about the lawsuit, which was filed in Brooklyn Federal Court Wednesday. It alleges that group home staff subjected a now 26-year-old resident, J.P., to two years of physical abuse, mistreatment and overmedication — even after video of one staffer kicking J.P. made television news in 2023. Tania Lopez, a spokeswoman for Suffolk DA Raymond Tierney, said Thursday that the investigation predates the lawsuit. Representatives of Life's WORC did not return messages seeking comment Thursday. According to the lawsuit, which cites three named whistleblowers, staff repeatedly punched and kicked J.P. and invented incidents in which he'd hit himself in the head so they could keep him in a drugged, 'zombie-like' state. Staff would tie his shirt sleeves to restrain him like he was wearing a straitjacket, gripped him so tightly he bruised, and didn't keep him properly dressed and groomed, the suit alleges, and in one instance doctors found a metal object in his colon after he was hospitalized in February 2024. The suit also alleges that administrators forced staff to delete a video from February 2023 showing one of the group home's autism support professionals, Bryan Amegah, kicking J.P. in the torso. The video got out anyway, and was aired in a News 12 Long Island story that June. 'We welcome the Suffolk County district attorney's investigation into Life's WORC,' said J.P.'s lawyer, Ilann Maazel of Emery Celli Brinckerhoff Abady Ward & Maazel LLP. 'This case involves the systemic abuse, neglect and overmedication of one of the most vulnerable members of our community. We stand ready to cooperate fully if the DA seeks to hold individuals accountable — because justice for J.P. is essential to ensuring this never happens to anyone else.' In 2019, another staffer at the group home, Richard Garnett, forced one resident there to walk naked on a treadmill until he fell and fractured his neck, according to a now-settled lawsuit. Garnett was charged, and pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of an incompetent person and was sentenced to three years' probation, Lopez said. 'I want justice and accountability,' J.P.'s mother, who goes by her initials, V.T., to protect her son's identity, told The News. 'My son is a human being. No one should be treated that way, or spoken to [that way]. No one should raise their hand to anyone. He's a disabled man.'

Grandma, 76, killed when e-bike battery explodes like ‘blowtorch' inside NYC pizzeria on Fourth of July: FDNY
A 76-year-old grandmother was killed when an e-bike battery exploded like a 'blowtorch' inside a Queens pizzeria on the Fourth of July – trapping her as she tried to leave the bathroom, the FDNY said. Yuet Kiu Cheung, 76, was consumed by the flames when the device erupted inside Singas Famous Pizzeria on Kissena Boulevard near Cherry Avenue in Flushing around 3 p.m. on the holiday – marking the city's first deadly fire attributed to lithium-ion batteries this year, officials said Tuesday. 'These things take off very, very quickly with a blowtorch effect,' Chief Fire Marshal Daniel Flynn told reporters. 'This woman was in the bathroom. She went to the bathroom for one minute. She was trapped. She could not get out of the bathroom because the device was stored directly outside the bathroom.' 5 Yuet Kiu Cheung, 76, was killed in the July 4 blaze at Singas Famous Pizzeria in Flushing, officials said. FDNY Cheung — who was shopping with a friend when they decided to stop at the pizzeria — heard 'three explosions' and smelled a strange odor as she used the bathroom, her grief-stricken son Tommy Ou Yang told The Daily News. 'It was a weird smell and all of a sudden the black smoke comes out,' he said. Cheung had to pass the explosive flames on her way out of the restroom toward the exit – but couldn't get there quite fast enough, according to FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker. 5 The fire was sparked by an exploding lithium-ion battery, fire officials said. Matthew Kushnick 'For me to find my mom burnt like a roast pig, almost 100 percent of her whole body, is a memory I cannot forget,' Yang told the News. The senior was rushed to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her extensive injuries the next day, the commissioner said. 'She's a very loving parent, a loving grandmother,' her son said. 'All her grandchildren, they all miss her.' 5 The deadly blaze marked the first time this year someone was killed in a fire sparked by an exploding lithium-ion battery. Brigitte Stelzer 'The neighborhood, everybody loves her,' he added. 'She's always very friendly with everybody, tries to help everyone.' The four other people inside the pizzeria at the time of the blaze managed to escape, officials said. The fire left the eatery in shambles, and the charred bike remained at the scene Tuesday. 'These fires are treacherous,' Tucker said. 'They move very quickly. They are very hot. And you know, you don't have many feet to move before you're overtaken by the fumes and the smoke and the flames.' 5 Six fatal fires were caused by exploding lithium-ion batteries last year, FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker said. FDNY/Youtube In total last year, six fatal fires were caused by exploding lithium-ion batteries, and more than 20 in 2023, Tucker said. 'One is too many, and I will not stop talking about safety around lithium-ion batteries and e-mobility devices until the number is zero,' the commissioner said. 5 Chief Fire Marshal Daniel Flynn urged users of the devices to never store them in their homes or businesses. FDNY/Youtube Meanwhile, Flynn urged users of the devices never to store them inside a home or business, or near an entrance or exit. 'It's a tremendous tragedy, and the problem persists here,' the fire marshal added. 'This is has not gone away.'

Hulk Hogan on the mend from 'pretty serious heart surgery'
Hulk Hogan (pic) is reportedly on the mend after undergoing 'pretty serious heart surgery' amid his estrangement from daughter Brooke. The 71-year-old wrestling star is 'recovering' and 'doing well,' an insider told Us Weekly on Wednesday, though they offered no other details on what led to the operation. Earlier in the day, radio host Bubba the Love Sponge said he'd heard that Hogan had been hospitalized. 'There are phone calls being made to various family members about getting to town to come say your goodbyes,' said the on-air personality. 'I've heard people say that he might not make it.' In the wake of the chatter, the source told Us Weekly the surgery wasn't a 'near-death thing,' assuring fans that Hogan is not 'on death's door.' The famous family made headlines in March when Hogan's ex-wife Linda posted a tearful video about the 'mess' of their relationship with Brooke, whom she claimed 'doesn't talk to us.' 'She's had twins. She got married, she didn't tell us,' Linda said at the time. Brooke and former Stanley Cup winner Steven Oleksy secretly tied the knot in June 2022 and became parents this January, with the arrival of fraternal twins. 'I have completely separate reasons for going no contact with each of my parents,' Brooke said in an Instagram statement following her mother's video. 'No contact with my Mom has nothing to do with my Dad, and no contact with my Father has nothing to do with my Mother.' The new mum then accused her parents of longstanding abuse — verbal, mental and 'frequently … physical. And sometimes it's not by the person you would assume.' Linda responded to the allegations by accusing her daughter of once being 'so drunk she broke my collarbone and cut my lip.' The matriarch conceded that she'd 'spanked Brooke once' and called her 'a couple of names,' but insisted she 'by no means ever treated her the way she's painting it.' Oleksy defended his wife against the 'laughable' allegations, saying that Linda Hogan's claims 'fall well short of the truth.'
