Deltona shooting leaves 1 with gunshot wound, suspect sought

One man was shot in the stomach during an argument early July 1 in Deltona, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said. The incident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. at a Flagami Terrace home. The 29-year-old victim was transported to a hospital in Orange City around 3:11 a.m. and was later transferred to a Sanford Hospital where he underwent surgery, the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post. The man suspected of shooting the victim has been identified, and deputies are "working to get him into custody," the sheriff's office said. This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available. State drops case against Ormond man after feds indict him on charge of threatening Trump

After a federal grand jury indicted an Ormond Beach man on a charge of threatening to assassinate President Donald Trump, the state dropped its criminal case. Sheldon Biddle, 25, had been accused in state court of posting on his X social-media account that Trump should "shut up before you end up like Kennedy" as well as threats against others. The State Attorney's Office on June 9 formally dropped the state felony charge as U.S. Attorney Gregory Kehoe pursues the federal case against Biddle in the Middle District of Florida. In late March and early April, Biddle posted a string of invectives against Trump, Elon Musk, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Dan Bongino, the FBI deputy director. Among the threats: "Trump is gonna get assassinated for being a treasonous traitor," and "so if I say someone should kill @elonmusk & @realdonaldtrump for betraying Americans & enforcing tyranny I'm the bad guy?" His X feed, which was active before Ormond Beach police rearrested him on June 5, includes antisemitic, pro-Hitler, and racist content. Biddle was booked in the Volusia County Jail on April 11 and released on $10,000 bail. Ormond Beach rearrested Biddle on June 5 after the federal grand jury handed down its indictment. Biddle faces a detention hearing before federal Magistrate Judge David Baker in an Orlando courtroom on June 11. Biddle made an initial plea of not guilty on June 6. He has been assigned a federal public defender and is scheduled to go on trial on August 4. NASCAR Power Rankings: Top 10 drivers after Coca-Cola 600. Kyle Larson spins off top spot

Kyle Larson visited spin class and spun out. Twice. In Kyle's world, one bad day (and night) constitutes a slump. Generally, we're a forgiving bunch at the Rankings Ranch, and one bad Sunday doesn't normally have us grabbing the hook. But this "one bad Sunday" came with a glaring spotlight. Advertisement And it came during a weekend in which Billy the Kid — William Byron — was giving a master class in how to race an automobile at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Consider his dominance over the course of about 30 hours. Byron not only won Saturday's Xfinity Series race, he swept all three stages. Sunday night, he won all three stages again, but this time, there was a fourth stage, thanks to the 600 miles that make up the Coke 600. Late in Stage 4, his tires began to go night-night, allowing Ross "The Boss" Chastain to pass for the win. It was very similar to what happened to Willy B last month at Darlington. Advertisement Not that he'll care, but Byron's near-sweep at Charlotte did bump him to first place in our weekly power rankings. He'll surely sleep better knowing that. 1. William Byron A near Charlotte sweep has him atop our heap. 2. Christopher Bell He just doesn't have bad weeks. Sunday's eighth-place finish was about as bad as it gets. 3. Kyle Larson May ends soon and we turn to June. Bet he can't wait. 4. Ross Chastain Win a race, smash a watermelon, scoop up watermelon, eat some. Maybe not appetizing to some, but Ross likes it. That watermelon was getting ripe. 5. Joey Logano Won last year's race at Nashville. Might mean something, might not. 6. Chase Elliott Just filling his points basket. Ex-Hendrick champ Terry Labonte would be proud. 7. Ryan Blaney Mixes in too many crashes. Has four finishes of 35th or worse. 8. Denny Hamlin Got back in the mix Sunday before an unfulfilling pit stop. 9. Chase Briscoe Snuck out a third at Charlotte. Continues to run well most weeks. 10. Alex Bowman Came down to him or Tyler Reddick for 10th. It's the Showman. For now. NASCAR results: Full finishing order of Cracker Barrel 400 race at Nashville Superspeedway

Ryan Blaney returned to Victory Lane for the first time in 2025 Sunday. The 31-year-old led a race-high 139 laps during the Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville Superspeedway. It's the 14th win of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion's career. He had not won since the penultimate race of last year's playoffs at Martinsville. Advertisement So far this season, nine different drivers have taken checkered flags and punched their postseason tickets. Behind Blaney, Carson Hocevar, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano and William Byron filled in the rest of the top five. NASCAR Driver Power Rankings: Did Ryan Blaney climb list after Nashville race?

You want to go ahead and flip-flop the top two guys in our Power Rankings? Go right ahead. I can't argue against it. Well, I could, but there's no real science behind this weekly lineup. In fact, it generally boils down to two things. Advertisement 1. What has he done in recent weeks, with maybe a tad more weight given to the most recent race. 2. How has his season been as a whole? If a tiebreaker is needed: Which guy, if necessary, is easier to make fun of. Kyle Larson isn't No. 1 in our current Power Rankings, but that doesn't mean he won't return there. As for the current rankings, Christopher Bell has four wins this year (including the All-Star Race) compared to one for William Byron, whose win came way back at the season opener. But Byron competes for a win nearly every week, and along the way, he piles up a ton of bonus points, which explains why he's second and ahead of three-time winner Kyle Larson, who mixes in too many clunkers. Advertisement If hunches and vibes were sciences, I'd be a scientist. 1. Christopher Bell Barely kept his top-10 streak (eight of last nine starts) with a 10th at Nashville. 2. William Byron Billy the Kid just doesn't have a bad week, does he? 3. Kyle Larson In an odd little funk. Very hard-earned eighth at Nashville. 4. Ross Chastain Average Michigan finish in seven starts: 25.9. Yuck. 5. Ryan Blaney Passed tech! Full Penske roster now in the playoffs. 6. Joey Logano In his last five Michigan starts, he has led just as many laps as you have. 7. Denny Hamlin Does a third at Nashville suggest the mini-slump is over? 8. Chase Elliott Odd stat: Has finished 15th four times this season. 9. Chase Briscoe His Saturday speed has yet to translate to Sundays lately. 10. Tyler Reddick Raised stakes in trendy kid names by naming his new son "Rookie."
