Heartstopper's Joe Locke ‘thrilled' to make West End debut in Clarkston
The 21-year-old will appear in the play, written by Samuel D Hunter, alongside The Franchise actor Ruaridh Mollica and Welsh actress Sophie Melville when it launches this Autumn. Locke said: 'I'm thrilled to be making my West End debut in Clarkston. Samuel D Hunter's writing is so deeply human and honest that I immediately connected with the play when I read it.' A post shared by Clarkston (@clarkstonplay) Clarkston, directed by Jack Serio, tells the story of Jake, who is on a journey to discover himself when he unexpectedly meets Chris, a kindred soul working a night shift at a Costco in a rural American town. As the pair's bond deepens, so does their sense of adventure. Writer Hunter said of the play: 'I couldn't be more excited to bring Clarkston to London audiences, especially with this phenomenal cast and creative team. 'I've always adored the UK's theatre scene, so being able to share this play with audiences in the West End is truly a dream come true. 'This play draws from themes of the vast and isolated American West and the colonial past of the United States, but it's fundamentally a story about love and friendship in the midst of an unknown future, which is a prettyuniversal story these days.' Locke starred in all three seasons of Netflix's teen drama Heartstopper as Charlie Spring, a gay teen boy who falls in love with his classmate Nick Nelson (Kit Connor). The Manx star was nominated for outstanding lead performance at the Children's And Family Emmy Awards in 2022 for his role in the show. The actor has also appeared in Marvel's Agatha All Along miniseries and made his Broadway debut last year in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. Further details, including ticket sale dates, are yet to be announced.

Detroit Red Wings sign James van Riemsdyk for one year, $1 million in NHL free agency

The signing was more of a ripple than a splash, but there wasn't much of a supply as NHL free agency got underway on July 1. The Detroit Red Wings signed James van Riemsdyk for one year at $1 million, adding a well-traveled veteran who has produced in the 30-point range the last three seasons. Overall, the 36-year-old has 327 goals and 665 points in 1,082 career games, spread among the Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets. Advertisement His first season with the Wings will be his 17th in the NHL. James van Riemsdyk of the Columbus Blue Jackets attempts a shot against Cam Talbot of the Detroit Red Wings during the first period of the 2025 NHL Stadium Series at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, March 1, 2025 in Columbus, Ohio. ANOTHER VETERAN: Patrick Kane re-signs with Detroit Red Wings for one year, $3 million The Wings were looking for a left winger to play on a line with Patrick Kane and Marco Kasper. Van Riemsdyk certainly has experience, and the market had taken a severe hit leading up to free agency with the Florida Panthers re-signing Sam Bennett and Brad Marchand. Van Riemsdyk shares a bit of history with Kane, incidentally: Kane was the first overall pick in the 2007 draft, and Van Riemsdyk was second. The early expectation is van Riemsdyk will get some looks with Kane and Kasper during training camp and exhibition season. HBO's Cuts: 'Bookie,' 'The Franchise,' and More Cancelled
HBO is shaking up its lineup in a big way, confirming the cancellation of three series as it preps for the 2025-2026 TV season. Among the casualties? The popular comedy-drama The Sex Lives of College Girls, along with Bookie and The Franchise. The first to fall was The Franchise, a satirical comedy from Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. Despite the prestige behind the project, and Mendes's growing buzz as he heads into production on his four-part Beatles biopic, the series couldn't pull in big enough numbers. HBO pulled the plug after just one season, thanking Mendes and the ensemble cast in a parting statement but making it clear there'd be no second chance. Next up was Bookie, a two-season comedy starring stand-up heavyweight Sebastian Maniscalco. The series followed the chaotic life of a Los Angeles bookie trying to keep his business afloat in the shifting sands of legalized sports betting. While it found a loyal niche audience, it didn't survive HBO's latest round of biggest surprise for many fans? The end of The Sex Lives of College Girls. The dramedy, co-created by The Office alum Mindy Kaling, had built a strong following over its three-season run. Starring Reneé Rapp, Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, and Alyah Chanelle Scott, the show explored college life, friendship, and messy relationships. Speculation about its future had swirled since Rapp exited in 2023, and now it's official: HBO won't be moving forward with a fourth season. There are rumors producers are shopping it to Netflix, but so far, no takers. Meanwhile, The Righteous Gemstones will wrap things up after its fourth season, while The White Lotus, The Last of Us, and And Just Like That are all set to return with new seasons—proving there's still plenty to look forward to on Max.
