Call Of Duty 2027 will launch new franchise with martial arts theme says leaker
Activision is planning to launch a new sub-franchise of Call Of Duty in 2027 according to a prominent insider, the first in five years. There are very few surprises when it comes to Call Of Duty these days, both in its gameplay and the fact each annual instalment is usually leaked years in advance. As announced last month, this year's entry is another Black Ops sequel, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, from developer Treyarch. While nothing official has been said about the 2026 game, it's rumoured to be a sequel to 2023's Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, centred around Korea and made by Infinity Ward. While some hoped the following entry in 2027 would be a sequel to Sledgehammer's futuristic Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare, it seems the studio might be cooking up an entirely new sub-franchise. According to reliable Call Of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope, the 2027 game will be 'set in a completely new sub-franchise' in the 'modern era'. While there aren't many details on what will separate it from Modern Warfare, movement is planned to be a 'big focus', which will include a lot of martial arts. 'There may be a focus on martial arts within the gameplay with 'karate kicks' and 'karate chops' as examples,' they wrote on X. It's unclear if this will still be a relatively minor element or some kind of elaborate Sifu-esque overhaul, but it's certainly a bizarre addition if true. Especially given how difficult it is to create meaningful melee combat in a first person perspective. While we likely won't get confirmation of these details until around this time in 2027, Call Of Duty hasn't tried to launch a new sub-franchise since 2021's Call Of Duty: Vanguard, a Second World War shooter which fell below Activision's sales expectations. Whether the new game lands with the general Call Of Duty masses or not, the series is in dire need of some kind of refresh – especially as we've been stuck in a Black Ops and Modern Warfare rotation for the past four years. However, new leaks have surfaced regarding Call of Duty 2026, which is in turn rumored to be a worthy successor to the last Modern Warfare installment. These leaks have revealed the setting, story and even the potential name of the game. According to popular leaker @TheGhostOfHope , the title of Call of Duty 2026 is going to be Call of Duty Modern Warfare 사 and is currently in active development under Infinity Ward. A new Call of Duty 2025 report by a reliable insider has players lashing out at Microsoft for being 'greedy.' Rumor has it that Activision and Microsoft plan to lock certain limited-time game modes (LTMs) behind a Battle Pass. Currently, everyone can play LTMs for free. However, monetization decisions are made by the publisher, and following its acquisition by Microsoft, any decision made by Activision would need to have the blessing of its new parent. 'Black Ops 7 will reportedly have more seasonal LTMs and some of them would be considered 'higher value' with unique rewards and different game mechanics/modes,' wrote TheGhostofHope. 'BUT, the only way to play the LTMs will be to have the Battle Pass unlike how it's currently free for everyone.' Call Of Duty 2025 will lock game modes behind battle pass claims insider
Activision is planning to make changes to the battle pass in the next Call Of Duty according to a new rumour, including locking limited time modes behind a paywall. Microsoft has already warned this year's Call Of Duty could cost up to £80, but it seems this might not be the only price squeeze facing players. While nothing has been announced about the successor to Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, it's strongly rumoured to be a direct sequel to 2012's Black Ops 2, with remastered maps and returning mechanics. However, a new rumour suggests Activision is planning on revamping the battle pass system in the next Call Of Duty, so that you effectively have to pay to access limited time modes. This comes from regular Call Of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope on X, who claims Call Of Duty 2025 will have 'more seasonal limited time modes' and 'some of them would be considered 'higher value' with unique rewards and different game mechanics/modes'. However, the only way to play these 'higher value' limited time modes 'will be to have the battle pass, unlike how it's currently free for everyone'. They added: '[Activision] are planning on taking the higher tier skins, loot, and crossover operators for limited time modes and making them only accessible to battle pass owners instead of having the 'Premium Event Track' we currently get during Reloaded updates.' More Trending At the moment, Activision only incentivises players to purchase the battle pass through operators, emotes, skins, and weapon blueprints, so this would be a more aggressive way of pushing people into buying the battle pass for 1,100 COD Points (£8.39). None of this has been confirmed by Activision, who haven't even announced the game yet, but you can guarantee it's not something that's going to go down well with most fans. Last week, Call Of Duty kicked off Season 3 Reloaded, which includes two new multiplayer maps (Haven and Signal) in Black Ops 6, a limited time mode, new modes for Zombies, and a new operator based on actor Seth Rogen. The next Call Of Duty hasn't been officially announced but it will likely be shown off during the Xbox summer showcase on June 8, if not before.
