What Chinese propaganda says about Albo
Anthony Albanese's visit to China has gone down well with the country's state media, offering insight into Beijing's true feelings about the future of its relationship with Canberra. The Global Times is a leading English-language propaganda mouthpiece for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Doing its best to imitate a Western-style publication, it is often used to circulate the CCP's various pet peeves and routinely takes scathing shots at Australia. But the Chinese government tabloid had only good things to say after the Prime Minister's meet with Xi Jinping and other party top brass. Anthony Albanese and Xi Jinping met in Beijing on Tuesday. Sky News Credit: NewsWire An 'opinion' piece published on Wednesday said the meetings 'set the tone for steady progress in bilateral ties while keeping external disruptions at bay' — a swipe at the US. 'The turnaround in China-Australia relations reflects the genuine expectations of both peoples,' the unattributed piece said. 'It also demonstrates that China and Australia are opportunities for each other's development – and highlights the strong appeal of China's vast market, the resilience of its economic growth, and the certainty of its continued commitment to opening up.' It acknowledged but glossed over sore spots in the relationship, such as the Port of Darwin. Mr Albanese vowed during the election to break the 99-year lease to Chinese logistics giant Landbridge Holdings. Mr Albanese's China visit has gone down well with the nation's state media. Sky News Credit: NewsWire The Global Times previously described the pledge as a 'drastic step' and 'ethically questionable'. Mr Albanese also said after meeting Mr Xi that the Chinese leader did not raise the port, suggesting it may have dropped off Beijing's top-tier grievances. 'Of course, compared with the 'minefields' status described by the Global Times editorial three years ago, today's China-Australia relationship is like a plane flying in the 'stratosphere' after passing through the storm zone, and the most turbulent and bumpy period has passed,' the opinion piece said. The Chinese have waged a charm offensive on Mr Albanese's six-day trip, with officials and business leaders wooing him in the glitz of central Shanghai before his high-level talks in Beijing. He has in turn spruiked Australia's trade and tourism offerings. Though, despite best efforts on both sides to keep things positive, chasmic differences remain. Against a backdrop of China's rapid military build-up, Mr Albanese has kept firmly to his mantra of co-operating where 'we can' and disagreeing where 'we must'.

‘Dragon-Elephant Tango': China signals shift in ties with India, says both can reshape global order by ignoring US
China has described External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's visit to Beijing as a step toward resetting bilateral ties, but cautioned that lasting progress will require trust and sustained effort. Jaishankar is in China to attend the SCO Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Tianjin and is also holding bilateral talks in Beijing. This is his first visit to China in five years. Jaishankar's visit seen as diplomatic breakthrough In an editorial published in The Global Times , China's mouthpiece, it highlighted that the five-year gap since the last Indian foreign minister's visit shows how abnormal diplomatic ties had become. However, the paper said Jaishankar's presence, following last year's Kazan meeting between Indian and Chinese leaders, marks a 'fresh restart' and a positive effort to restore communication mechanisms. China calls for mutual trust and cooperation The editorial quoted Chinese Vice President Han Zheng saying that 'it is the right choice for both sides to be partners contributing to each other's success and realize the ' Dragon-Elephant Tango .'' Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the two countries should 'build mutual trust instead of suspicion, pursue cooperation instead of rivalry, and support each other's success instead of wearing each other down.'. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Join new Free to Play WWII MMO War Thunder War Thunder Play Now Undo There is also talks for resuming direct flights between both the countries. Indian tone more pragmatic, says Global Times The paper noted a shift in Indian public and diplomatic messaging. It said Indian commentary around the visit has used phrases like 'on the mend,' 'continued thawing,' and 'back on track,' indicating a more practical and optimistic approach compared to previous years. Live Events The Global Times said the unresolved boundary dispute remains the most sensitive and complicated issue. It described the border tensions as a source of misunderstanding and mistrust in India and said both sides need to build a reliable border trust mechanism and restart high-level strategic dialogue. The paper also blamed the United States for trying to create divisions between India and China. Multilateral platforms offer room for cooperation Despite tensions, the paper said cooperation between India and China through multilateral platforms like SCO and BRICS can continue. It said existing mechanisms within these forums could help address global challenges and contribute to a more stable Asia-Pacific region. The Global Times said, 'Strategic mutual trust cannot be achieved through a single meeting or a single joint statement; it must be gradually built up through long-term, sustained, and measurable interactions.' It added that 'enduring political will, pragmatic consultative mechanisms, and most importantly, mutual respect for each other's core concerns' are necessary. China urges India to look beyond misperceptions The editorial concluded by urging India to view China from the lens of its own development needs. It said, 'the more the two countries can eliminate misjudgments and hedge against external risks through sustained dialogue, the better positioned they will be to take the initiative to stand at the forefront in the reshaping of the global order.'

Kanye West fans chant for refund at chaotic comeback show
Fans of Kanye West chanted for a refund at the rapper's concert in the Chinese city of Shanghai after he turned up more than 40 minutes late. The controversial rapper took to the stage at Shanghai Stadium on Saturday night and was reported by The Global Times to not only have been significantly delayed getting onstage, but his set was plagued by technical difficulties, with some fans even taking to social media to complain about the lack of production. A clip has gone viral online of the moment the 70,000-strong crowd erupted and demanded a refund. What's more, one fan accused him of lip syncing. 'Mostly lip syncing,' they wrote on X. 'His microphone must have been up less than 20 per cent of the time.' The same user also claimed Kanye left the stage for 20 minutes during the encore as his music played over the sound system. 'For the encore, he disappeared for over 20 minutes at one point as tracks like Wolves just played out with him nowhere in sight,' the disappointed gig-goer wrote. 'I could have just played your music at home man. Came to see u perform???? (sic)' The concert marked West's first since September 2024. West has only played a handful of gigs in recent years and has lost brand deals and been dropped by huge names since making a series of anti-Semitic outbursts.
