Im nascent in my work in the West, excited to see what unfolds: Priyanka Chopra Jonas
London, Jul 4 (PTI) Success is constant evolution, says actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a popular Hindi cinema star who is now firmly focused on expanding her filmography in the West. In her latest Hollywood project "Heads of State", Priyanka plays Noel Bisset, an MI6 agent with a past with the British Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba). When Sam and the newly elected US President Will Derringer (John Cena) are attacked ahead of a NATO conference, Bisset is tasked with safeguarding them. The former Miss World, who emerged as one of the top actors in Hindi cinema after her debut with "The Hero: Love Story of a Spy", said she has had a great run in India and is looking for something similar in her work in Hollywood. "It is constant evolution for sure. I would've never imagined where I am today when in 2002, I started my first movie. But I feel like I'm really nascent in my work in the West so far. I have a major filmography in my Indian work. I've been able to work in various genres, work with the most incredible actors and filmmakers. "So I want to be able to build on that portfolio in my English language work as well. I feel like there's a lot more to do, a lot more to explore and I'm excited to see what will unfold," Priyanka told PTI in an interview here. The actor has played central roles in shows and movies such as "Quantico", "Baywatch", "Citadel", "The Matrix Resurrections" and "Love Again". Priyanka said "Heads of State", which is now streaming on Prime Video, was a fun film to do and she is proud of what she achieved through her character. "I want to be proud of the work that I take on. I try to take on characters that have agency and are strong and have something to do in the movies versus being ornamental," she added. Both Priyanka and Cena, who has a massive fan following in India for being a WWE wrestler before turning to acting, started their professional journeys around the same time in the early 2000s but they first met each other in the Ilya Naishuller-directed movie. "I knew of John from his WWE days in India. He's so well known in the country. It's hard to not know him, especially when he made his transition into movies. I thought that was very interesting and his choice of parts were great. So I was very excited to do this movie with him," she said. Priyanka said her co-star, who has created a niche for himself with his work in the physical comedy space, is "funny in real life" too. "And that helps... When you have good comedic timing in real life, you can improvise on set with that kind of ease," she added. Whether it is hand to hand combat, gun battles or fighting bad guys alongside Elba and Cena, Priyanka gets to do some cool action sequences in "Heads of State". The actor credited her stunt team and the director for making her look good on the screen. "Actors are just as good as the teams that surround us, especially in the movies. I think that we had an incredible stunt team and a really visionary director who knew exactly what he wanted. He had a storyboard of almost every shot. He knew exactly how large the explosion needed to be or how high the helicopter needed to be. "I think over the years, having worked in the genre, whether it's in India or in America, the one common theme is having a great technical stunt team because you are just as confident and you just feel as good as the people around you." "Heads of State" also stars Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid and Sarah Niles. The movie is produced by Peter Safran and John Rickard.

Priyanka Chopra's voice reminded Andaaz producer Suneel Darshan of Rekha: ‘Nobody had faith in her'
After winning the Miss World title, Priyanka Chopra began her Bollywood journey with the film The Hero: Love Story of a Spy. She followed it with Andaaz, for which she was praised for her performance. Now, in an interview with India Today, Andaaz producer Suneel Darshan has revealed how Priyanka's voice reminded him of Rekha. The filmmaker recalled sitting in his chamber when he received a call — an actor's secretary had arrived with a young woman he wanted to introduce to him. Following his usual practice of meeting newcomers personally, he agreed to the meeting. That day, the visitor was Prakash Jaju, the secretary of none other than Miss World, Priyanka Chopra. Suneel admitted that he wasn't particularly impressed initially. He said, 'My first response was not wow. But later, she groomed herself - evolved is the right word. Fifteen minutes into the conversation, I observed her eyes and said to myself, 'Iski aankhein kya kamaal hai, aur iski awaaz Rekha ki yaad dilati hai (She has such beautiful eyes and her voice reminds of Rekha).'' He added, 'That day I was sure - this is Rekha coming back. I had known Rekha ji earlier. But except for me, nobody else involved in the film saw that or had faith. They were more supportive of Lara and her personality. Priyanka was a different ball game. But I was very sure Priyanka Chopra was going to be a top star.' Directed by Raj Kanwar and produced by Suneel Darshan, Andaaz was a romantic musical starring Lara Dutta, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. The film revolves around Raj (Akshay), a young man who falls in love with his best friend, Kajal (Lara). However, his love remains unspoken, and Kajal ends up marrying someone else. Heartbroken, Raj moves on with life and eventually meets Jiya (Priyanka), a vibrant and independent woman who falls in love with him. Just as Raj begins to consider a future with Jiya, his past resurfaces, complicating their relationship. The film was a major box office success.

‘Main sadko pe aa jaunga': Shah Rukh Khan's Main Hoon Na co-star Kabir Bedi recalls losing work opportunities after son's death

But there was a time when he was struggling financially and lost work opportunities after his son's death. He also thought 'main sadko pe aa jaunga' (I will be homeless) when things didn't go as planned. Veteran Bollywood actor Kabir Bedi is a well-known star, not just in India but abroad too. Even though he was able to turn the tables and end up being a successful actor, he had lost all hope in the 90s. While talking to BBC News Hindi, the Main Hoon Na actor shared, 'Ek point aaya jab ki mai tabah ho gaya tha (There was a point when I was shattered), not just financially but emotionally also because it came at a point when all my financial investments had turned against me.' The senior actor stated that it was a difficult period in the late 1990s because at that time, his son with Protima Bedi, Siddharth, had died. The Khoon Bhari Maang actor didn't know what he was doing. He would go for auditions and wouldn't understand what he was saying. This led to him losing work and opportunities, and things just went downhill from here. But one day, he thought to himself, 'Ye silsila agar aese he chalta raha toh mai bardaab ho jaaunga, sadko pe aa jaaunga. (If things continue like this, then I will lose everything and become homeless.)' He gave himself a little pep talk and reminded himself of his abilities that helped him come from Delhi to Mumbai, fly to Europe, and become a star. So, the Kacche Dhaage actor moved to England and slowly started rebuilding his life by working on one project at a time.
