The Indo Daily: ‘It's like a sick perversion of Squid Game': Horror in Gaza as tide begins to turn against Netanyahu
You've almost certainly been confronted by the latest imagery to emerge from Gaza as famine and starvation grip the war-torn region, with the sight of emaciated, dying children presenting a new level of horror and heartbreak. It seems as if this escalation has caused a visible collective shift in perspective, with new voices emerging in opposition in recent days. Emmanuel Macron, for instance, has signalled France's intention to officially recognise a Palestinian state, making it the first G7 country to do so. Keir Starmer has also announced his intentions for the UK to follow suit, unless Israel acts to stop its war. Donald Trump, meanwhile, has directly contradicted Benjamin Netanyahu's assertion that Israel isn't causing extreme hunger in Gaza, labelling the situation in Gaza as 'real starvation stuff' during his televised joint interview with Starmer earlier this week. On this episode of The Indo Daily, host Kevin Doyle is joined by Gregg Carlstrom, Middle East correspondent with The Economist, and by TRT World presenter Enda Brady, to ask is the world turning on Benjamin Netanyahu? And is there any hope left for those in Gaza?

The Indo Daily: The trouble with EuroMillions – Dolores McNamara's €115m win, 20 years on
Dolores McNamara was enjoying a night out with her friends when the EuroMillions draw flashed up on the TV screen. The multi-million lottery bonanza was relatively new in Ireland in the summer of 2005, and the last thing Ms McNamara expected was for her impulse buy of a €2 ticket to pay off. Once the draw was announced, things would never be the same for Dolores McNamara, now a jaw-dropping €115 million better off. The beaming winner presented herself to the public upon picking up the novelty-sized cheque, though an avalanche of attention and subsequent distressing incidents perhaps contributed to her retreat from the spotlight. 20 years on, what became of Dolores McNamara and her many millions? On this episode of The Indo Daily, host Tabitha Monahan is joined by Irish Independent southern correspondent Ralph Riegel to look back on one of the most lucrative stories in modern Irish history.

The Indo Daily: Porn and violence in the 'digital age crackdown': Are children safe online?
However, despite a nine-month lead-in for the likes of Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and X, it seems there are still major issues to be ironed out. As it turns out, children are still able to access adult-themed content, including hardcore pornography. Irish Independent Technology Editor Adrian Weckler created child user accounts to test out any age-related barriers that may be in place on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X. 'I used a new computer, a new browser, nothing that had any fingerprints of me or my previous browsing history,' he said. 'None of them asked me to do anything but self-declare my age. And most of them allowed me to watch full adult content, full intimate sexual content, torture videos, extreme violence, and lots of other things.' In the UK, it's a similar story, as enhanced age verification checks for adult-related online material come into effect today, amid a storm of privacy concerns. 'It's faced a huge amount of criticism, especially within the Conservative Party,' says Sophie Peachey, Assistant News Editor with The News Movement. 'A lot of people are worrying that it's overreaching, and that it limits free speech and it's intrusive, especially when you feel like you're in sort of a surveillance state being watched online.' On this episode of The Indo Daily, host Kevin Doyle is joined by Adrian Weckler and Sophie Peachey, to try to answer what might seem like a simple question, though one that has become increasingly complicated – is it even possible to keep children safe on the internet?

Battle for Barne: Ep2 – Secret phones, wiped laptops and ‘dirty' money
John Magnier – one of Ireland's wealthiest men and a notoriously private individual – has taken the stand in a high-stakes legal row over an estate that makes Downton Abbey look modest. Mr Magnier, the bloodstock billionaire, and two of his children are seeking to enforce a handshake deal agreed between Mr Magnier and Richard Thomson-Moore to buy Barne Estate, a 751-acre property in Tipperary that has been in the Thomson-Moore family for nearly 400 years. Mr Magnier contends that the €15m deal agreed in his Coolmore home in Tipperary on August 22, 2023 with Mr Thomson-Moore is binding. He argues that a later €22.5m deal Mr Thomson-Moore and his family trust agreed with Maurice Regan, the US-based Kerry building tycoon, is 'unlawful'. Land, riches and reputations are all on the line, with recent evidence hearing details of secret phones, wiped computers, hidden assets and 'dirty' money. Today on The Indo Daily, in the second of a two-part special, Fionnán Sheahan is joined by Mark Tighe, journalist with the Sunday Independent, to hear the blockbuster revelations in the case over the future of Barne estate.
