Former Masters champion delighted to sign up to new NI Legends event at Galgorm
The Welsh wizard, who was also World No.1 during a remarkable career, will headline a field of former Major champions and Ryder Cup players for the Legends Tour event held at Galgorm on August 29-31. It will be the 20th professional event hosted by Galgorm, which previously was the location for the ISPS HANDA World Invitational on the DP World Tour and LPGA Tour, as well as the NI Open which was held on various tours. And Woosnam, who captained Europe to Ryder Cup success in Ireland at The K Club in 2006, is thrilled to get the chance to come and play at the event in two month's time. 'I am delighted to be heading back to Ireland to compete in this new Legends Tour event. Golf in Northern Ireland is thriving, especially with Rory McIlroy completing golf's Grand Slam recently and The Open returning to Royal Portrush next month,' said the World Golf Hall of Famer. 'Galgorm enjoys a great reputation as one of the country's best tournament venues and I am looking forward to competing here in August. The Pro-Am format for the NI Legends lends itself to a great week where amateurs get the chance to compete alongside the professionals.' The Legends Tour, formerly known as the European Seniors Tour, is open to professionals aged 50 or over and its events regularly feature a wealth of talent including the likes of Miguel Angel Jimenez, Paul Lawrie, Paul McGinley, Colin Montgomerie and Jose Maria Olazabal. As well as the main tournament, the event will also feature a Pro-Am that will see several high-profile names compete alongside the professionals the day before the event begins. 'We are delighted to be bringing the Legends Tour to Northern Ireland and the wonderful Galgorm. It's a venue with a long history of hosting professional tournaments and I'm sure it will present a real challenge to all the players,' said Legends Tour chief executive Phil Harrison. "Northern Ireland is a superb destination for golf and we are looking forward to playing in front of such knowledgeable and supportive fans, who I'm sure will welcome the opportunity to watch legends of the game close-up.' Gary Henry, group golf director at the Galgorm Collection, added: 'The Black Desert NI Legends is something of a tournament milestone as its the 20th professional event to be staged at Galgorm, dating back to 2010 and including the 2020 Irish Open. "With the Pro-am format we also look forward to welcoming a number of Northern Ireland soccer legends who will take on an All-Star legends team to compete for the Legends Cup.'

Royal County Down win my ‘most special moment': Irish Open champion confirms he will defend title
The 24-year-old upset the home fans at the Mourne links a year ago when his stunning final round 65 helped him edge out Rory McIlroy by a shot to clinch the fifth win of his DP World Tour career. McIlroy, who at one point had led by four shots during the final round, had an eagle putt on the par-five 18th to force a play-off despite bogeying two of his three prior holes, but ultimately came up just short as four birdies in his last five earned Højgaard the victory. Off the back of his Irish Open success, Højgaard has gone from strength to strength, making the cut in eight of his first 11 events this season on the PGA Tour and playing the weekend at both The Masters and the US PGA Championship. And the World No.64 is keen to go back-to-back after announcing he will return to the tournament this year at The K Club, which begins on September 4, adding to a star-studded field that already includes the likes of McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Séamus Power. 'Winning the Amgen Irish Open last year was one of the most special moments of my career,' said Højgaard. 'To do it in such dramatic fashion, against such a strong field, is something I'll never forget. 'I'm really looking forward to returning to The K Club this September. It's a world-class venue with a rich history, and the Irish fans always create an incredible atmosphere. Defending my title there will be a real honour. 'The Irish Open is always one of the highlights of the season. It's a special tournament to me and I'm excited to be part of it again and hopefully give myself a chance to lift the trophy one more time.' This is the second time the Palmer North Course at The K Club will host the event in the last three years as part of a deal between the Irish Open and the venue that will see it also stage the tournament in 2027. McIlroy is looking for his second win at the Kildare course having produced a scintillating final round performance to win his, to date, only Irish Open in 2016, with Sweden's Vincent Norrman triumphing in 2023.

Art and sculptures by leading artists take centre stage at Irish festival
A FESTIVAL of art which takes place in Ireland next month will include work by some of the world's leading artists. Art and Soul takes place in Co. Cork where festival-goers can enjoy works by the likes of Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Banksy and Salvador Dali. Patrick O'Reilly's I Know How You Feel sculpture will feature on the grounds of Cork's five-star Castlemartyr resort as Art and Soul, hosted by Gormleys It will also feature sculptures by a range of artists, including Patrick O'Reilly, Ian Pollock, Sandra Bell and Eamonn Ceannt and daily talks by some of the artists. 'Art and Soul gives art lovers a unique opportunity to view these incredible works of art in the beautiful surroundings of Castlemartyr,' said Oliver Gormley of Gormleys. Who are hosting the event. Philip Jackson's The Sentinels are part of the exhibition It marks be the twelfth major art and sculpture event hosted by Gormleys, and the third time the event has been located at the Castlemartyr. Giacinto Bosco's Atalena Grande, will also feature in the festival The free festival will include a major outdoor exhibition with 90 large sculptures and installations set throughout the 220-acre grounds of the 18th-century manor estate. 'Adults and children will enjoy the event equally, and our previous events in The K Club, Russborough, and the Culloden Hotel attracted over 10,000 visitors,' Mr Gormley added. During the festival the Castlemartyr Resort is offering special rates for overnight stays and Champagne afternoon tea. Eamonn Ceannt's Happy Face III, will be on display at the festival 'Castlemartyr Resort is the perfect background for its arts-centric summer, with its rich history and impressive grounds dating back to the 13th century,' said Brendan Comerford, General Manager of the resort. 'We are looking forward to welcoming guests and visitors to celebrate the extensive programme of artworks, talks, tours and musical performances that will take place.'
