Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. "While still a high school student in Kenya, Alice refused to live the life of a child bride," Amal Clooney tells a packed audience at London's Royal Festival Hall. She is, together with husband George, the star guest at The King's Trust Awards and proudly presenting one of the winners. This particular line, however, is not included in the media pack, nor was it divulged to the many journalists involved in reporting this event. Such is the human rights lawyer's knowledge of the winner she helped choose. And such is her passion for Alice's story. More Stefan Rousseau/WPA Pool/Getty The Kenyan was facing the prospect of life as a child bride after her father died when she was in her early teens, leaving her family with no bread winner. Alice saved herself by building her own craft business, making products using beads, while still a high school pupil in Form 2, which in Kenya is around 15 or 16 years old. The King's Trust charity, founded by King Charles III, helped her learn to scale her business and pursue high-demand products, in time earning enough money to support her mother and siblings. In honor of that achievement, Alice, 19, was given the Amal Clooney Women's Empowerment Award during the star-studded ceremony on June 26. "Amongst this year's incredible nominees, Alice's resilience, courage and entrepreneurial spirit really stood out for me," Clooney continued. "She turned this craft into a lifeline not only for herself, but also to support her whole family. "And she didn't stop there. Now an employer as well as an entrepreneur, she trains other girls in the school holidays, so they too have the means to forge a livelihood of their own. With her bright spirit, Alice has shared her skills with those around her, bringing together young women in her community and inspiring them to carve out their own path." Clooney has been the official partner for the Women's Empowerment Award since 2019, and this year her actor husband joined her not only for the award ceremony but also at a Buckingham Palace reception in honor of the winners the day before. On the red carpet, he told Newsweek: "My wife has an award named after her so it's pretty fun to be here, but, look, we get to draw attention to the young people who could use the attention for the hard work they're doing, and that's always a good thing to do." Newsweek is an official media partner for the Global Sustainability Award, won by Pascal, 20, from Uganda, for his work turning plastic bottles into everyday products, including vases. He got to meet the king at the palace reception, sharing a lighthearted moment during a group photograph with other award winners. And I make products like key holders, sugar bowls, flower vessels. "I have a number of days that I normally go to collect the bottles. I will use one hour to collect the bottles and the other remaining hours to work on them. Mostly I do that during the evening after school time. Plastic bottles are a big problem in the town where I live. "I really enjoyed meeting the king and I was very happy." And he has an impressive record, having gathered 300kg of plastic waste in a single month as well as reducing the amount of waste going to landfill in his community by 80 percent. On the red carpet, Pascal told Newsweek: "When I go back to my motherland, I will take a concern to inspire other young people to take action in my project so we can save the world with the issue of climate change." He told Newsweek: "I've been supporting [the awards] since the moment I was kindly invited almost 25 years ago. "I was invited to be a part because it really celebrates the extraordinary journey that many, many young people have gone on, from fighting adversity from being disenfranchised to being mentored by the trust and all the partners with the trust to get back on track." "We're talking tens of thousands of people over many years who have been brought back from total situations, so it's great," he added.

Moments later, Prince Harry was also seen entering the frame, as he began dancing with his wife. Sharing the video to social media, Meghan wrote: 'Four years ago today, this also happened. The video quickly went viral, with some mocking the clip, while others thought it showcased a more down-to-earth side of the couple.

Pregnant Sophie, 30, who dated Sam for six months in 2018, was at the event with husband Jamie Laing. Jamie, 36, later took to Instagram to share a snap of them posing together with Fearne Cotton. But Fearne, 43, later took a swipe at Jamie and Sophie after they shared a clip of them recreating Meghan and Harry's infamous 'Baby Mama' dance on the Grand Staircase. Jamie posted the video to his 1.6 million Instagram followers, writing: 'They said we couldn't film in Buckingham Palace." After Jamie and Sophie posted their hilarious video mocking the Sussexes, Fearne appeared to take a dig at the pair. Writing in the comments next to video, the podcaster said: 'You also had your pap camera out with a flash. "Think of what the flash has done to those priceless paintings." Sam and Sophie got together while starring on Made In Chelsea but she ended their relationship because he gave her too much attention. She told new! magazine: 'His best [attribute] was he doted on my hand and foot, but his worst was maybe that he doted on me too much. 'Some girls like that, I don't. For me, I don't like someone who's needy. Independence is key.' Sam and Samie confirmed they were dating in early May when they were spotted sharing a steamy kiss on a night out. But yesterday an insider told us of their split: 'It was a mutual thing and there is no bad blood between them. "They both just have really busy schedules, particularly Sam who has been non-stop recently, and it was really hard to make it work. They're still good mates. "It's a shame but sometimes things just don't work out.' Their romance came after Sam split from Zara McDermott in January. Zara, 28, is now in a relationship with One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson.

Fearne Cotton jokingly slammed Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo after they shared a cheeky dance video filmed in what seemed to be Buckingham Palace Fearne Cotton jokingly hit out at Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo after they shared a cheeky video of themselves dancing on the staircase at Buckingham Palace. Reality TV stars Jamie and his wife Sophie, who tied the knot in April 2023, have been sharing updates with fans since announcing Sophie's pregnancy. In their latest update to fans on social media, the 36-year-old star, who was in Made in Chelsea from 2011 to 2020, is seen dancing alongside Sophie in what appears to be Buckingham Palace. The couple were seen standing on a lavish staircase with lavish paintings hung up on the walls. Within minutes of Jamie uploading his footage, purportedly shot inside Buckingham Palace, the official Instagram account "theroyalfamily" replied: "We see you" with a pair of eyes and a wink emojis. The King's Trust also entered the conversation in the spirit of the occasion, saying: 'All of our attendees are very well behaved' with the same look and a laughing emoji. Fearne joined in on the cheeky video as she jokingly slammed the couple in the comment section with a sarcastic comment. "You also had your pap camera out with a flash. Think of what the flash has done to those priceless paintings," she wrote, to which some fans asked whether she was serious. "Jokingggggg. I took loads too," she later clarified. Some Instagram users aimed fire at Jamie, who now hosts a show on BBC Radio One, calling the video "disrespectful" and "cringe". One user commented: "Disrespectful - go get a real job!" Others joked: "Some rules are meant to be broken." Some users jumped to the couple's defence to say: "who are they disrespecting?" Other celebs posted replies too. They said: "I'm sure it was done in a spirit of fun, and of course aligned to Jamie's wonderful support for The King's Trust Awards - even if it's not something we would greatly encourage every guest to attempt." Buckingham Palace reply to Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo's 'Meghan Markle' clip
Made in Chelsea stars Jamie Laing and his wife Sophie Habboo have been updating fans on Sophie's pregnancy. Buckingham Palace has been praised for the "best response ever" to Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo's controversial video in which they seem to mock Meghan Markle. Sophie, who is pregnant, appears to twerk in the clip Jamie shared on Instagram to mixed reaction yesterday. Many on social media suggested the couple, who got married in April 2023, were attempting to recreate Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's incredible "twerking" video shot moments before the Duchess of Sussex gave birth in hospital. Within minutes of Jamie uploading his footage, believed to have been shot inside Buckingham Palace, the official Instagram account "theroyalfamily" replied: "We see you" with a pair of eyes and a wink emojis. The King's Trust also joined the conversation in the spirit of the occasion, saying: 'All of our attendees are very well behaved' with the same look and a laughing emoji. However, other Instagram users aimed fire at Jamie, who now hosts a show on BBC Radio One, calling the dig "disrespectful". The 36-year-old star, who was in Made in Chelsea from 2011 to 2020, is seen in the video dancing alongside Sophie in what appears to be Buckingham Palace. His moves appear to replicate those briefly seen by Prince Harry in Meghan's clip, which first became public earlier this month. The words "The Royal Baby has arrived" are written overlay to the clip, liked by more than 50,000 people on Instagram. Yet one viewer on there replied: "Disrespectful," to which she got seven likes. Another Instagram user shared: "Diabolical behaviour." A third critic posted: "Quite disappointing. I like you guys normally." Other celebs posted replies too. Kerry Villers, who is a social media influencer, said: "I feel like you can see Jamie's excitement to become a dad in his face and it's pure joy." TV presenter and former member of The Saturdays, Rochelle Humes, shared her own experience trying to sneak a photo in Buckingham Palace. The mum of three wrote: "The speed that this happened is genuinely impressive. I just about got mine in focus for a sneaky pic." Sophie, who was in Made in Chelsea from 2017 to 2022, smiles playfully in the clip as she dances alongside her husband. The pair, stood on the red-carpeted gliding staircase, beside portraits of members of the royal family in the video. Royal aides seemingly found the funny side, although it would have breached protocol. Proof that no offence was taken, a palace aide told the Daily Mail: "I'm sure it was done in a spirit of fun, and of course aligned to Jamie's wonderful support for The King's Trust Awards - even if it's not something we would greatly encourage every guest to attempt." Jamie had attended a reception at Buckingham Palace yesterday alongside the likes of George and Amal Clooney to highlight The King's Trust's annual awards for some of the charity's greatest success stories over the years..
