Willem Dafoe eyes reunion with Robert Eggers for Werwulf
Willem Dafoe is in talks to star in director Robert Eggers' Werwulf. The 69-year-old actor - who previously worked with the filmmaker, 42, on The Lighthouse, The Northman and Nosferatu - is in negotiations to appear in Eggers' upcoming horror flick, Deadline has said. The Spider-Man star could be joining Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily Rose-Depp, who are also in talks to lead Werwulf. Werwulf is being penned by Eggers' The Northman co-writer Sjón, and is slated to hit cinemas on Christmas Day 2026 in the US. The director and scribe are also due to produce with Focus Features alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, who will be producing under Working Title. Meanwhile, Maiden Voyage's Chris and Eleanor Columbus will serve as executive producers. While plot details are unknown, Werwulf is expected to be a 13th-century werewolf horror flick set in England. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the dialogue will be 'true to the time period,' with translations and annotations provided to help audiences understand the Old English. Eggers has reportedly abandoned an earlier plan to shoot the film in black and white. As well as Werwulf, Eggers is also said to be in talks to work with Dafoe on a new cinematic retelling of A Christmas Carol for Warner Bros. The director's last release was 2024's Nosferatu, which starred Bill Skarsgård, Dafoe, Rose-Depp, Nicholas Hoult, and Emma Corrin, and followed a young woman haunted by the obsessive vampire Count Orlok. Eggers recently spoke about the gothic influences behind his take on Nosferatu, citing Jack Clayton's 1961 film The Innocents, based on Henry James's novella The Turn of the Screw. He said on Alamo Drafthouse's Guest Selects YouTube series: 'I think it is one of the best - perhaps the best - gothic ghost movie ever made. 'I watch it a couple times a year probably for inspiration. Freddy Francis was the cinematographer, who directed many Hammer horror films, but his finest collaborations are with Jack Clayton. 'And what he does with the camera was very inspiring to what my cinematographer and I were up to with Nosferatu.' Eggers added that another key influence for Nosferatu was Thorold Dickinson's 1949 film The Queen of Spades. The director said he aimed to recreate its 'fluidity and precision of the camera work' and was also inspired by its practical snowfall effects, achieved using potato powder instead of CGI. He said: 'And the atmosphere of the film is also incredibly effective. The snowy Russian streets is a sort of look and vibe we tried to create later in [Nosferatu], particularly the potato snowflake snowfall is very beautiful and we use the same kind of practical snow.' Eggers also credited Ingmar Bergman's 1972 drama Cries and Whispers as a major influence for Nosferatu, citing its 'ghostly atmosphere' and powerful performances. He said: 'Cries and Whispers by Ingmar Bergman is perhaps my favourite Bergman film. 'It's also one of the best horror films ever made even though it certainly doesn't try to be one, and wouldn't be classified as one.'

Inside fitness influencer Lauren Simpson and Mark Carroll's $9.5million 'lighthouse' mansion
Fitness influencers Lauren Simpson and Mark Carroll have bought a stunning multimillion-dollar mansion on the Gold Coast 's ritzy Sovereign Islands. Lauren, who is a world bikini champion, and her fitness trainer partner bought the stunning mansion, known as The Lighthouse, for $9.5million earlier this year. Named The Lighthouse for its distinctive pyramid beacon that overlooks the Broadwater, the stunning house was awarded the Master Builder's Gold Coast Home of the Year in 2017. Spanning four levels, the house offers an expansive 1,380 square metres of internal living space. The property also boasts a casino and gaming arcade, as well as multiple entertaining spaces, a gym, library and home office. There is also a luxurious gourmet kitchen with a marble island bench, scullery and butler's pantry. The house boasts four bedrooms with the master offering walk-in dressing room, an ensuite and a private balcony. A spacious guest suite, complete with a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, overlooks well-manicured gardens via a private balcony. The luxe inclusions don't end there, with a rooftop pool offering 180-degree views showcasing the Broadwater and Surfers Paradise skyline. The rooftop space also includes an outdoor kitchen, fireplace and Teppanyaki bar. The excited couple took to Instagram this week to show off their luxe purchase. Captioning his photo dump, Mark said that he wanted to buy the house when he first laid eyes on it four years ago. 'When Lauren asked me to move to the Gold Coast 4 years ago I said the only place I would move to was the Sovereign Islands,' he wrote. 'So we did… first day we moved here. Walking the dog I saw this house and said it was the 'true goals' house and one day we would get it 'Opportunity presented itself earlier in the year and I took the opportunity. Dream home achieved.' Mark also joked about owning a house with a casino, given he is not a gambler. 'PS the casino came with the house.. and we have 2 bars. Good thing I don't gamble and I don't drink alcohol haha,' he wrote. 'Looks cool but. My friends will enjoy it' Mark's envy-inducing post was met with a flurry of congratulatory comments from friends and followers. 'Nice. I had to Google Sovereign Islands as I'd never heard of it, and a picture of your place came up. Congratulations,' one offered. Another summed up the sentiment of many with: This house blows my mind!!! Take us all on a full tour if you're open to it and don't mind!' It comes after Lauren and Mark dropped $5.9million on another Sovereign Islands mansion back in 2021. Offering breathtaking views of the Coral Sea and the surrounding islands, the extravagant home spans four levels and features a limestone façade. This isn't the first time Mark and Lauren have been in the real estate spotlight. The fitness-loving couple previously bought the Sydney home of former NRL player Sam Burgess.

Buyer of epic mansion ‘The Lighthouse' revealed
A fitness power couple has been revealed as the buyers of a glitzy Gold Coast mansion complete with a rooftop pool, casino and gaming arcade. Influencers Lauren Simpson and Mark Carroll paid $9.5m for a Sovereign Islands property known as The Lighthouse. Simpson, who is a world bikini champion and has 1.8 million Instagram followers, and Carroll, a successful fitness trainer, have shared clips of the house with their followers. The Lighthouse changed hands for $9m in March, 2024 and was listed for sale late last year with Ivy Wu and Isaac Kim of Ivy Realty. Mr Kim described the four-level home mansion as 'iconic'. The home comprises about 1,380 sqm of internal living space including four bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Its bold black facade, trimmed in white with pops of red, features turrets and porthole-like windows, while the home's top level hosts a full-floor party deck, complete with rooftop pool, barbecue kitchen and teppanyaki bar. Property features include a luxurious Hamptons-inspired kitchen with marble benchtops, executive office, lavish master bedroom with walk-in dressing room, boudoir, ensuite and private balcony, wine cellar, gym, and lift servicing all levels. The sellers last year renovated the basement and put in a cinema room, fully fitted casino and gaming arcade. Property records show Simpson and Carroll own another house on Sovereign Islands that they bought in 2021. Mr Kim said the prestige market on Sovereign Islands was strong following a string of mega sales including 44 Knightsbridge Parade West, which sold for $8.5m through Ivy Realty. Another property known as the castle, at 55 Knightsbridge Parade West, Sovereign Islands, sold in a $14.5m deal via Coastal agent Edin Kara last month. The highest recorded sale on the Sovereign Islands is $20m, paid by Clive Palmer in 2021 for 7-13 King Arthurs Court.
