Titus Welliver teams up with Al Pacino and Grantchester star for new projects after Bosch success
Titus Welliver has been busy since wrapping production on the first season of Prime Video's Ballard with a number of projects lined up. Bosch may have reached its conclusion, but Titus Welliver hasn't been resting on his laurels as he's already grafting on his next major venture. Writer Michael Connelly's novels have been transformed into several hit programmes, including Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer, Bosch, and most recently, Ballard. The Maggie Q series also serves as a Bosch spin-off with actor Titus Welliver reprising his role as Harry Bosch for the Prime Video drama. He is now departing from the realm of the detective-turned-private-investigator to focus his efforts on the cinema world. The 63-year-old is working on the eagerly awaited biographical film Killing Castro, which is presently in post-production. The picture is inspired by the actual events surrounding the former Cuban President's visit to New York in 1960 to address the United Nations. Its synopsis states: "He is invited by Malcolm X to stay in Harlem at the famous Hotel Theresa. "Unsure of his intentions, the FBI, CIA and the Mafia, attempt to eliminate him by any means necessary." Everyone's parts in Killing Castro remain undisclosed, but Welliver features amongst the leading cast, alongside Scarface and The Godfather icon Al Pacino. They will be accompanied by Big Sky's Logan Marshall-Green, Vikings' Alexander Ludwig, and Cobra Kai star Xolo Mariduena. Taking on the role of Castro himself, however, will be Rock of Ages and Father of the Bride performer Diego Boneta. While fans anxiously anticipate the launch date, Welliver is also developing a fresh series alongside Grantchester's Tom Brittney, Whiplash's JK Simmons, and Ozark's Jessica Frances Dukes. Drawing from actual events, the forthcoming MGM+ crime drama The Westies centres on the Irish-American criminal organisation that ruled Hell's Kitchen during the 1970s and 1980s. The official synopsis states: "Though vastly outnumbered by the Italian mafia, their brutality earns them a share. Generational tensions rise as FBI probes deepen." Reports suggest filming commenced this month, with The Westies anticipated to premiere sometime in early 2026.

'Ballard' review: Solid crime procedural does justice to its legacy
What are crime drama fans doing right to get two "Dept Q" series in the same year? Ballard, the latest adaptation of Michael Connelly's (Bosch, The Lincoln Lawyer) books, has more than a passing similarity to the set-up of that Matthew Goode series from earlier this year. Consider: a disgraced detective who doesn't play well with others is consigned to a basement office with a motley group of non-cops (a retired detective, a police reservist, a volunteer and an intern, initially) and a stack of cold case boxes. (As for the "Q" connection, well...) It should be noted that in the first Connelly novel featuring Detective Renee Ballard (Maggie Q), she was not kicked out of the Los Angeles Police Dept's Robbery-Homicide division. Instead, she was banished to the graveyard shift while keeping her spot on the team, albeit for the same reason she winds up in the TV show's makeshift cold case unit. 'You bring the cold cases, we bring the heat.' The main reason for the unit even existing is because of pressure from LA Councilman Jake Pearlman (Noah Bean, Nikita mini-reunion alert!), who wants the cold case of his sister's murder solved for the family to get closure. With a 10-episode first season available to stream all at once – one of those rare departures from Prime Video's typical weekly release schedule – we can view it at leisure or binge it, depending on our preference. Chances are that it will be the latter, given the intrigue involved here, not just for the primary case but the far-reaching consequences of another case involving a John Doe murdered at a seedy motel. Being from the same literary and TV universe as Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, Ballard follows a similar pattern of character and story beats. (In fact, Ballard herself showed up in the closing segments of Legacy's final season, ICYMI.) The familiarity is comforting, as is the parade of familiar faces from the earlier shows as they help us get acquainted with this new cast of characters. Given the stresses of Ballard's situation and the cases, plus some unresolved trauma from a family tragedy, Maggie Q gives us a convincing lead character who is visibly restraining herself, but not so much that she doesn't occasionally call out her higher-ups for their BS in a few satisfying scenes. It's fortunate for Ballard that she has solid support at home (from her "Tutu", or grandmother, played by veteran Amy Hill) and at work. 'Do I need a court order or what? People are starting to think that word you guys keep inserting between Harry and Bosch is my actual middle name.' Her staunchest supporter on the job is Thomas Laffont (John Carroll Lynch, Fargo), her ex-partner brought out of retirement to work the cold cases. Remember how Lynch gave The Walking Dead an entire season's worth of heart from just a single episode (Here's Not Here, as the enigmatic Dr Eastman, who gave Lennie James' Morgan his trademark staff)? In Ballard, his palpable investment in the case of a missing baby provides extra depth to a character we already know must be full of compelling experiences. Ballard also finds a kindred spirit in ex-cop Zamira Parker (Courtney Taylor, The Invitation), whom she coaxes back to the force and who provides the show with one of its more redemptive character arcs. Ballard's showrunners, Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood, count the Mary McDonnell procedural Major Crimes on their resumes, and the experience of juggling a large cast – and keeping each character interesting – pays off here. None of the supporting characters feels obligatory or like dead weight, from the cold case squad's varied components down to the suspects, bureaucrats, even Ballard's kind-of boyfriend – so much so that when things happen to one (or more) of them, the impact is deeply felt. Buoyed by the goodwill left over from its predecessors, Ballard hits the ground running and carries us easily through its debut season. Right through to an ending that sets up a second season in so nail-biting a fashion that we're left with fingers and toes crossed in this streaming age of uncertain series longevity. And yeah, Prime Video/Amazon, I still haven't forgiven y'all for axing The Bondsman. All 10 episodes of Ballard are available to stream on Prime Video.

The Lincoln Lawyer actor to star opposite Schindler's List icon for action thriller
The Lincoln Lawyer star Angus Sampson has been keeping himself busy with a couple of projects away from the Netflix legal drama. WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Lincoln Lawyer. Angus Sampson will feature in two upcoming films as fans anticipate The Lincoln Lawyer's comeback. Netflix viewers are sitting on tenterhooks, desperately hoping The Lincoln Lawyer's fourth series will arrive sooner rather than later following that nail-biting finale which witnessed Mickey Haller (portrayed by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) getting nicked on suspicion of murder. When the courtroom drama eventually returns, Mickey's mates and workmates are certain to pull out all the stops to assist him, including private detective Cisco Wojciechowski (Angus Sampson). Whilst details regarding The Lincoln Lawyer's fourth series launch date remain under wraps, Sampson has been grafting on several ventures. His first undertaking will be the adrenaline-fueled survival thriller Deep Water, which is currently in post-production. The official synopsis for Deep Water states: "A group of international passengers en route from Los Angeles to Shanghai are forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters. "Now they must work together in hopes to overcome the frenzy of sharks drawn to the wreckage." Beyond the gripping storyline, Deep Water boasts a familiar cast appearing alongside Sampson, which is guaranteed to draw audiences. Spearheading the production is actor Aaron Eckhart, who'll be recognised for his portrayal of Harvey Dent in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight back in 2008. Joining them is the legendary Ben Kingsley, known for his roles in Schindler's List and Gandhi, who will also feature in the forthcoming Netflix film The Thursday Murder Club. Alongside Deep Water, Sampson is set to reprise his role as father Dom Chalmers in the Australian BBC sitcom Bump for its festive special. The series concluded after five seasons last year, but fans can look forward to a film adaptation where the extended family embarks on a South American cruise. Oly (Nathalie Morris) and Santi (Carlos Sanson Jr) found their happy ending and will be holidaying with their second baby Angelo, who is just a few months old. The Lincoln Lawyer is currently available for streaming on Netflix.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4: Release date rumors, cast updates and what to expect next
By Aman Shukla Published on July 16, 2025, 20:13 IST If you're still recovering from that wild Season 3 finale of The Lincoln Lawyer , you're not alone. Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) getting framed for murder? Talk about a plot twist! Fans are dying to know what's next, so let's dive into the latest on The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4—when it might drop, who's in the cast, and what's coming up for our favorite lawyer working out of his Lincoln. When Can We Expect Season 4 on Netflix? Netflix hasn't spilled the beans on an exact release date yet, but there's enough chatter to piece together a rough timeline. The cast and crew were filming in Los Angeles from February to June 2025, as Ted Humphrey, one of the showrunners, shared on Instagram. Looking at past seasons, post-production usually takes a few months—Season 1 hit in May 2022, Season 2 rolled out in July and August 2023, and Season 3 landed in October 2024. That pace suggests Season 4 could pop up around late 2025, maybe October or November. Some folks think it might slip to early 2026 since Netflix didn't mention it in their 2025 lineup. Either way, it's not too far off, and I'm already counting down! Cast Updates: Who's Returning and Who's New? The core cast is set to return, bringing back the heart of Mickey Haller's legal team. Confirmed returning actors include: Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, the charismatic defense attorney now facing his toughest case yet. Neve Campbell as Maggie McPherson, Mickey's ex-wife and a prosecutor, who will be a series regular after a limited role in Season 3. Becki Newton as Lorna Crane, Mickey's legal aide and second ex-wife. Jazz Raycole as Izzy Letts, Mickey's driver and former client. Angus Sampson as Cisco Wojciechowski, Mickey's investigator and Lorna's fiancé. Elliott Gould as David 'Legal' Siegel, Mickey's mentor. Krista Warner as Hayley Haller, Mickey's daughter. Notably, Yaya DaCosta's character, Andrea Freeman, a prosecutor and Mickey's love interest from Season 3, wasn't mentioned in the renewal announcement. Given her role in the story and Mickey's current legal troubles, her absence could be intentional to avoid conflicts of interest, but fans hope she'll make a return. Season 4 is also bringing in exciting new faces to shake things up: Cobie Smulders , known for How I Met Your Mother , joins in a mysterious role that's being kept under wraps. There's even talk she could return for a potential Season 5. Constance Zimmer as Dana Berg, aka 'Death Row Dana,' a tough prosecutor with ties to Maggie McPherson, set to face off against Mickey in court. Sasha Alexander ( The Morning Show ) and Emmanuelle Chriqui ( Superman & Lois ) in undisclosed roles, adding star power to the season. Jason O'Mara, Javon Johnson, and Nancy Silverton as guest stars, with roles like Jack Gilroy and Carter Gates, promising fresh dynamics. What to Expect in Season 4: Plot and Storyline Season 4 is diving into The Law of Innocence , the sixth book in Michael Connelly's Lincoln Lawyer series. If you thought Season 3's ending was intense, buckle up. Mickey's in deep trouble after cops find the body of an old client, Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton), in his Lincoln's trunk. He's arrested, slapped with a murder charge, and stuck in jail with a $5 million bail. For once, Mickey's the one who needs defending, and he's got to do it from behind bars at Twin Towers in LA. The season's going to be a wild ride, with Mickey fighting to clear his name and sniffing out a conspiracy that's got him in its crosshairs. Ted Humphrey called it Mickey's 'biggest challenge yet,' and I believe it. Expect plenty of courtroom showdowns, plus more of Mickey and Maggie's complicated relationship—Manuel Garcia-Rulfo hinted at some emotional moments between them. Lorna, Cisco, and Izzy will be all in to help Mickey, and with new characters like Dana Berg stirring the pot, there's no telling what twists are coming. Fans of the books might hope for a Harry Bosch cameo, but since Bosch is on Prime Video, that's probably a long shot. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . Ballard star Maggie Q's next project already lined up away from hit drama
Ballard star Maggie Q has already lined up her next project and this time it's with actress Jennifer Garner. Prime Video fans have been describing Maggie Q as "absolutely fire" in her role in Prime Video's Ballard, but the star isn't taking a break. The creator of Netflix's hit The Lincoln Lawyer and the Bosch universe, Michael Connelly, is also behind the newly released series Ballard, which has quickly become a fan favourite with its gripping tail of an LAPD detective taking charge of the cold cases division against the backdrop of her personal struggles at work. Since last week's launch, the show has received heaps of adoration, with viewers hailing the 46 year old Maggie Q as "fabulous" and proclaiming her an "incredible star" for her stunning portrayal. As the buzz around this latest spin-off from the Bosch Legacy series continues to rocket, Maggie Q is shifting gears, focusing on a fresh project already in the pipeline. Maggie Q's IMDb page hints at her starring in Can't Go Home, which is tantalisingly positioned in pre-production. This upcoming series promises high-octane thrills centered on Tom Desjadon and KD Williams, portrayed by Tom Mariano and the distinguished Jennifer Garner respectively, two fugitive recovery agents entangled within the menacing web of Boston's criminal underbelly. With details of Q's character Cam still under wraps, fans are left intrigued as to how her role will intertwine within this narrative of deceit and peril. While an official release date for Can't Go Home hasn't been confirmed, it's anticipated to premiere later this year on Prime Video. As of now, there's no word on whether Q will return as Detective Ballard for a second series of the show. However, considering its impressive 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and glowing reviews on social media, it seems likely that we'll see more from the programme. Ballard is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
