Padraig Harrington, Stewart Cink among co-leaders midway through U.S. Senior Open

Watch the best moments from the second round of the 2025 U.S. Senior Open at Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Padraig Harrington and Stewart Cink endured the ups and downs of the U.S. Senior Open together for a second straight day Friday and found themselves tied for the lead. The payoff — sharing the final tee time to kick off the weekend at the hilly, hard-to-read Broadmoor. Cink made up five shots over the final nine holes of his head-to-head pairing against Harrington, and the players headed into the weekend tied at 6-under 134, along with late-charging Mark Hensby. Cink shot 31 on the front nine, their second nine, to match Harrington's score on the back. Both players — the only two who average more than 300 yards driving on the 50-and-over PGA Tour Champions — called it a comfortable pairing, especially on a hilly course at altitude where gauging distance is anything but routine. 'If anything, he'd be a little bit longer than me,' Harrington said. 'But I suppose I know his game enough that I can see what's happening, as well. He is definitely a partner I would choose to play with.' Hensby shot his second straight round of 3-under 67, finishing the round with his 14th and 15th birdies of the tournament. He is 9-under par on the front nine and 3 over on the back. His 14th birdie came on the par-3 eighth — a 20-foot putt that might have come from closer had his tee ball not hit that of playing partner Doug Barron on the green. No. 15 came on the par-5 ninth — the easiest hole on the course, where he two-putted from 20 feet to climb into the tie for first. Cink hit all 18 greens in regulation, making it 35 of 36 for the week. He called that stat overrated, especially at a course where the real test starts on the notoriously difficult-to-read greens that cant away from a monument lurking above the course on Cheyenne Mountain. 'You don't want to be chipping downhill on this course, it's not a secret,' said the 52-year-old Cink, the 2009 Open champion who is playing in his first U.S. Senior Open. Cink two-putted from 45 feet on No. 9 for his fifth birdie on the front and a score of 66 — the best of the tournament so far. After Harrington shot 31 on the more difficult back nine, then kept the lead at five with a birdie on the par-5 third, he was thinking there might be an opportunity to open a big lead heading into the weekend. A pair of three-putts — one on the seventh and the other on the par-3 fourth green that has been slowed down to temper the severe slope — resulted in bogeys. 'I was hoping I'd make more of it,' Harrington said. 'I made a mis-club on 15 to make bogey, and then obviously going into the front nine you're hoping to make some birdies. Nothing is guaranteed.' But it ended well for the three-time major champion, whose wins came at The Open 2007 and '08 and 2008 PGA Championship. Short-sided in a greenside bunker on No. 9, Harrington made a 20-footer for a birdie to pull into a tie. 'I got a lovely read off Stewart. I don't think I would have given it as much break, so that was nice,' said Harrington, who won the U.S. Senior Open in 2022. 'They're the breaks you get when things are going well.' Among those who missed the cut were 12-time senior major champion Bernhard Langer, who shot 77, and Angel Cabrera, a two-time major winner this year, who shot 75; both missed the number by three. David Toms, the champion the last time the Senior Open came to the Broadmoor in 2018, hit an approach to 5 feet on 18 for birdie to make the cut on the number. But the headliners Saturday are Harrington and Cink, whose biggest meetings before this weekend may have been in one Ryder Cup foursomes match in 2002 and another fourball contest in 2004. (Cink won both times.) 'I love watching him play. I would hope that he probably feels similarly about me,' Cink said. 'We have mutual respect for each other. He's a world-class player and he's been doing it a long time. I would love it if we could go the distance here.'

Bryson DeChambeau says The Open has ability to be diabolical as he plots glory at Portrush

American star knows the toughness of the 153rd Championship course Wary Bryson DeChambeau admits Royal Portrush can be diabolical as he says he'll need diligence to end his Major term in style at The Open. The American star feels frustrated that he has been unable to knock-off one of the game's biggest events so far in calendar year with a strong run at the Masters his closest call. DeChambeau, who has two US Opens on his CV, has just one opportunity left to get the job done in 2025 and it comes next month at the 153rd Championship. The LIV Golf star accepts it's going to be a fearsome challenge to get the job done having sampled the toughness of the track during Shane Lowry's success of six years ago on home soil. DeChambeau was asked what he remembered about it and said: 'Yeah, it can be diabolical. Driver is key on that golf course in wind conditions, in side wind conditions. It's going to be a good test of controlling your golf ball, so I've got to be in touch with my game. I've got to have better feel. I'd say disappointed that I haven't won one [Major] yet. I've got to fine tune my game and focus on executing my shots the way I know I can on the golf course. I haven't been doing that recently. 'A little bit more due diligence on my side of the coin. Not taking things for granted and focusing on what I can do to give myself the best chance to win at the British Open. Probably being a little more strategic that week.' DeChambeau also gave his views of the Ryder Cup situation with Keegan Bradley being hotly-tipped to appear at Bethpage as both captain and player for the United States. He said: 'I personally think given how he's played, I could confidently say he should be a part of the team for sure.' Dechambeau, meanwhile, admits he's excited for this week's LIV event and said: 'I think having it be my own tournament is going to be a lot of fun. I think it's great to come to Dallas and have everybody come out and support us. I think there's going to be upwards of 40,000 people potentially here this week, so it's going to be a lot of fun, and super excited for the week. The golf course is in incredible shape. It's going to be a tough test of golf. Man, what a fiery place this could be. I'm excited for the week. 'I'm going to focus more on the golf this week. I'm looking forward to a great test of golf and our team is coming off of two wins, so we're pumped to be looking at going three for three for the Crushers and I'm more excited about that and focused on that right now.'

Henrik Stenson reunites with iconic caddie as Swede recruits 'perfectionist' ahead of Open at Portrush

The Swedish duo reunited at LIV Dallas and will go for Claret Jug glory in Northern Ireland Iconic Swedish duo Henrik Stenson and Fanny Sunesson have been reunited for this week's LIV Golf event in Dallas and are set to team-up at The Open. The former Claret Jug winner has enlisted the services of the legendary looper for the event with his current regular bagman Marcus Larsson unavailable due to commitments in his homeland. ‌ Sunesson became the first female caddie to win a Major when working alongside Sir Nick Faldo and secured a total of four of the biggest events in the game forming a phenomenal partnership with the Englishman through a glittering period together in the 1990s. ‌ The 58-year-old, who worked with Howard Clark, Sergio Garcia and Stenson for five years between 2006 and 2011 in a period where the Ryder Cup star won the Dubai Desert Classic, the WGC-Match Play and Players Championship. The partnership resumes once again in Texas and reports on state it will be continuing next month at Royal Portrush for the 153rd Championship. Sunesson retired in 2012 to coach, but continued to be involved in big events having come out of retirement on occasions, notably to work alongside Australian golfer Adam Scott at the 2018 Open at Carnoustie. Following that, Stenson and Sunesson paired up again at the 2019 Masters at Augusta and are also combined each summer for their annual Stenson Sunesson Junior Challenge in Sweden. That event has prompted this move with Larsson heavily involved in its operation and the 2016 Open winner, who grabbed the title after a famous battle with Phil Mickelson at Royal Troon, gave insight into the situation as he explained: 'He couldn't really get away this week. 'He had to hang back and take care of the logistics. So Fanny is out here. It's a certain comfort level to have her on the bag. It always is when you've got someone you work with for many years and you know well. ‌ 'In particular, she's a perfectionist. 'She always wants to make sure that she knows every possible question that might come her way. Preparation is one of the lead words for her. 'Just great to catch up with her. On the golf course, we end up talking about a lot of other things than necessarily if a seven-iron was three yards long or three yards short. It's kind of relaxing that way. You switch off in between shots.' ‌ Sunesson is delighted to be back on the job and said: 'I'm a rookie again, right? It's a new place and a new tour. 'It's nice to be back with Henrik. I'm loving it. 'He's a good friend and when you have good friends, it's like you might not talk to that friend for months, but it feels like yesterday when you do. 'Very, very happy to be here with him.'
