'We watched Gavin And Stacey on repeat': Richard E Grant goes on 'emotional' tour in memory of his late wife
Richard E Grant has shared an emotional video of his trip to Barry - the town made famous by the hit TV show Gavin And Stacey. He was joined by the show's co-creator Ruth Jones, who is best known for playing Nessa. They are both filming a new drama called The Other Bennet Sister, which delves into a character in Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice. Grant excitedly said "oh my god" as he stood outside Stacey's family home - and headed across the road to Uncle Bryn's. A trip to Barry Island soon followed to visit some of the sitcom's most famous landmarks, including Marco's Cafe and the beachfront. And the actor's visit wouldn't have been complete without Jones putting on her best Nessa voice - and asking: "Oh, Rich, what's occurin'? "It's really emotional being here," Grant said. "The last months of my wife's life, we watched Gavin And Stacey on repeat - and it just cheered us up endlessly." In 2021, Grant announced that his wife Joan Washington had died - eight months after she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.

Hollywood actor and Gavin and Stacey super fan Richard E Grant, has finally taken a tour around Barry Island Although, he didn't have any old tour guide, one of the sitcom's stars decided to take the actor around the show's filming locations. Ruth Jones, who played the famous Nessa Shanessa Jenkins and also co-wrote the series alongside James Corden, popped down to the Island to show here new friend around. Richard and Ruth have recently been announced as part of the cast of The Other Bennet Sister, a new BBC drama inspired by Jane Austen. You can read more here. The Saltburn star shared a video of himself in the town on Instagram. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter He said: "Am finally working with Ruth Jones in Wales and she generously gave me a tour of the @gavinandstaceytv locations this morning, helped by Marko! LUSH." In the video Richard says, "I'm here, in Barry with...", before panning the camera over to Ruth. He continued to say: "I'm at the house. Oh my god." The video itself shows an excited Richard showcasing the house and street where the comedy sitcom was filmed. He also took a little walk across the road to Uncle Bryn's house, before finishing his tour down Barry Island's beach and Marco's cafe. Article continues below Richard then opened up about why the TV series means so much to him. He said, rather choked up: "Really emotional being here. The last moments of my wife's life we watched Gavin and Stacey on repeat, and it just cheered us up endlessly. And I'm in Barry." His late wife Joan Washington, passed away on September, 2 2021, after being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. Fans flocked to the comments to share how happy they were for the actor as he visited the filming locations of his favourite show. One person said: "Oh goodness this has made my day, possibly my week! Wonderful Richard." Another added: "I felt emotional watching and seeing you reliving special memories. I watch Gavin and Stacey all the time especially if emotions are in need! I would love to someday visit. What a dream come true that would be. Thank you for taking us along." The video finished with Ruth, saying "Oh Rich what's occurin'", in classic Nessa style. Earlier this year, Richard shared his feelings on BBC Radio 2 talking to Scott Mills about how he wished he had been asked to be one of Nessa's love interests. 'Ruth dashed from the Cardiff set of 'The Other Bennet Sister', currently filming for BBC, and had to return the same night, but made time to speak to everyone individually as she signed and dedicated their copy of her book. With the books she signed for the shop backstage, that was over 300 signatures.'
