Minnesota Vikings could cut Minnesota QB in favor of more veteran presence

With training camp on the horizon, projections are coming in for the Vikings' 53-man roster from every corner of the media circle. The latest comes from the well-respected Judd Zulgad, who recently spoke about his thoughts on the Vikings roster while on The Purple Daily Podcast. The conversation included the entire roster on a recent episode, but the discussion around the quarterback position proved to be most interesting. Don't worry, there was no suggestion of Kirk Cousins or anyone else coming back. Instead, they did focus on the idea of a veteran presence being the one they lean on in the quarterback room. Zulgad explains, 'Now, I do think that Brosmer winds up spending the season on the Vikings' practice squad, I guess the wild-card here is, what does Howell show in training camp? Does Howell firmly take hold of the No. 2 position and prove he belongs there? Do the Vikings say, 'You know what? There might be better options?' But as of now… as we head into the offseason, the last gasp of it at least — McCarthy, Howell, Rypien.' Rypien has proven to have a soft spot in Kevin O'Connell's mind as he builds out his quarterback room every year he has been on the roster. The former Boise State quarterback has had a live arm since his college days, and it's something that makes him a fun player to keep around on the practice squad. It will be interesting to see how reps are split during training camp and in preseason games between Rypien and Brosmer as the competition heats up.
