Once Priyanka Chopra's brother-in-law lost nearly all his wealth and was left with just 10%. What happened?

Synopsis Kevin Jonas faced financial hardship after the Jonas Brothers' 2013 split, losing most of his wealth due to poor business decisions. He described this period as a tough lesson in financial stability. The band's reunion in 2019 offered him a second chance, and they are now celebrating their 20th anniversary with a tour. Kevin Jonas opens up about facing financial ruin. Long before the Jonas Brothers staged their triumphant comeback, Kevin Jonas found himself at rock bottom—financially and emotionally. The oldest of the trio recently revealed that he lost nearly all his money following the band's dramatic breakup in 2013, a period that forced him to re-evaluate everything he thought he knew about success. Speaking on Lewis Howes' podcast The School of Greatness, Kevin opened up about the dark phase that followed the group's split. The musician, who had grown up with meteoric fame and financial success, said he made several business decisions in his younger years that ultimately wiped out most of his wealth. Reflecting on that time, Kevin shared that he was left with just 10 per cent of what he had once earned, largely due to a failed business partnership and risky property investments. He acknowledged that the downfall taught him some tough but valuable lessons about money, trust, and personal growth. Kevin referred to that period as a crash course in understanding the real worth of financial stability and sound decision-making. Despite the setback, he credits the Jonas Brothers' reunion as a second chance—one that arrived just when he needed it most. The band, which first rose to fame in the mid-2000s with chart-topping albums and Disney Channel hits like Camp Rock, had officially disbanded in 2013, leaving fans heartbroken and Kevin, as it turns out, financially vulnerable. Known for starring alongside Nick and Joe in Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream and Jonas, Kevin also took part in Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam before the group went their separate Jonas Brothers first came together in 2005 and quickly rose to global fame after starring in Disney Channel's hit original movie Camp Rock in 2008. After dominating charts and fans' hearts for years, the trio parted ways in 2013. However, they made a triumphant return in early 2019 with their comeback single Sucker, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Now, to celebrate two decades since their formation, the band is gearing up for the Jonas20: Living the Dream tour. The anniversary tour will kick off on August 10 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey — a fitting start in their home state. ( Originally published on Jul 09, 2025 )

Kevin Jonas 'Almost All' of His Money After Jonas Brothers Split

Kevin Jonas is getting real about life after the Jonas Brothers 2013 breakup—and how it might have affected his net worth. Speaking about his relationship to success, Kevin revealed that he lost 'almost all' his money as a result of bad business deals before the Jonas Brothers got back together in 2019. Kevin opened up about his financial history during an appearance on Lewis Howes' The School of Greatness podcast when asked about his relationship to success, money, and fame. 'I've seen the beginning of the success to financial success—not knowing what money really was and understanding it—to not having [it], to losing almost all of it,' he said, surprising Lewis. The JoBro didn't go into detail, but he did say that he lost 'almost all of' his money after the band broke up, about nine years ago. 'I invested in a bunch of property and doing other things and I was building at the time,' he said. 'Sadly it wasn't the right partnership, if you know what I'm saying.' Kevin added that there was a time he was 'down to the one 10 percent left' of his Disney/Jonas Brothers fortune. Granted, it's unclear what exactly that means, given he was in one of the biggest boy bands of the 2000s. But, it's still fair to say that losing all of that money must have been quite the shock to the system. In fact, Kevin added that his experience helped him approach the music business a little differently this time around. 'I look at our business as—we are like a start-up,' he said. And, just as a start-up is expected to release new products after making it big, the Jonas Brothers have also been pressured to make business decisions quickly. Now, Kevin says, he's learned to be more thoughtful about his decisions and not feel pressured to give answers right away. 'To take some time is okay, to make a decision,' he said. 'It's okay to not know.' If Kevin's side projects are any indication, it looks like he's also learned that there's nothing wrong with a little diversity in your portfolio. In the past few years, he's co-hosted a reality TV series, Claim to Fame, with his little brother, Frankie Jonas, and released two children's books with his wife, Danielle Jonas, all while recording new music with his brothers. Whatever decisions he's making, it seems like they're the right ones.

Kevin Jonas lost ‘most' of his money during Jonas Brothers hiatus due to bad investments

Kevin Jonas is opening up about the financial rollercoaster he faced while the Jonas Brothers were on hiatus, and it wasn't pretty. During a revealing appearance on The School of Greatness podcast, the 37-year-old musician admitted that a series of bad business decisions nearly wiped out his fortune. 'Most of it, like, down to the one 10 percent left,' he confessed when asked how much he lost during the break from the band. The losses stemmed mainly from failed investments, including a risky venture into luxury real estate. Jonas co-founded a development company called JonasWerner, which focused on high-end properties in Manhattan, but it turned out to be a partnership that didn't pan out. 'It wasn't the right partnership,' Kevin said, choosing not to delve into the legal or personal details. And that wasn't all, he also backed a now-defunct food discovery app called Yood during the break, which failed to gain traction. Kevin didn't offer a complete breakdown of every dollar lost, but the tone was clear: his hiatus hustle backfired. 'I was trying to do something meaningful during the break. I had the right intentions, but I didn't have the right guidance.' Despite the financial setback, Kevin is bouncing back. With the Jonas Brothers now back on the road and reconnecting with fans worldwide, he's refocused on music, and likely, a bit more cautious with business ventures. The lesson? Even pop stars with chart-topping hits can find themselves deep in the red if the wrong investment comes knocking.

"The best part about being a dad for me and balancing things like this work stuff - and this is hardly work - is that you could feel like your coolest self on top of the world, and she just doesn't care at all. She wants to play Moana and Maui with me, and that means more to me than anything else, which is that time with her. And just the fact that I'm just Dad when I'm home, it means a lot," Nick Jonas told People magazine.
