Smurfs OTT release: Where and when to expect the animated comedy drama online

Smurfs OTT release: Smurfs, which hit the screens on July 18, has created a buzz among fans with its inherently amusing storyline and intriguing trailer. The animated film, which is a reboot of the live-action The Smurfs film series, is backed by Paramount Pictures. This means that the audience can expect it to premiere on Paramount+, the banner's streaming service, after its run in theatres. The official release date is yet to be announced. However, Paramount movies usually premiere on OTT two months after their release. Going by this, Smurfs is likely to be on the platform by mid-September Smurfs plot and cast explored In the 2025 animated film Smurfs, Smurfette (voiced by Rihanna) takes charge when Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is taken captive by the villainous duo of Gargamel and Razamel. Joined by the quirky newbie No Name Smurf (James Corden), she leads the Smurfs on an epic quest across Paris, Munich, and the Australian Outback. During this magical journey, Smurftette and her allies face magical threats and form unlikely alliances. They also realise the importance of unity and teamwork. Directed by Chris Miller and written by Pam Brady, Smurfs also stars Sandra Oh, Dan Levy, Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman, and Maya Erskine in key voice roles. It is a reboot of The Smurfs film saga. The franchise includes The Smurfs (2011), The Smurfs 2 (2013), Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017), Smurfs review Smurfs has failed to impress critics. The comedy drama holds an underwhelming score of 21% on Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator website, based on 70 reviews. 'Antic and zany without being particularly fun, this incarnation of Smurfs just isn't the smurfest tool in the shed,' reads the critics' consensus. This has affected its commercial performance. Smurfs box office performance Shot on a budget of $ 58 million, Smurfs had the potential to emerge as a money spinner. This, however, has not happened. It has made $2.9 million so far and failed to click with the audience. It faces competition from last week's release Superman globally. In India, Saiyaara (released this Friday) has emerged as the top choice of the audience.

Smurfs Day 1 India Box Office: Paramount's animated flick voiced by Rihanna takes a tepid Rs 40 lakh net start

Smurfs, directed by Chris Miller, and voiced by Rihanna, James Corden, John Goodman and others, opened to low numbers at the India box office. The film managed to collect only Rs 40 lakh net on its first day and the long term prospects of the film also seem bleak too, as the initial word of mouth is unfavourable. Smurfs Used To Once Be A Very Big Box Office Franchise Smurfs, as a franchise, is past its prime. In its hay days, its film The Smurfs (2011) managed to gross around USD 570 million globally. Everything looked great for the franchise in terms of anticipation and excitement. The Smurfs 2 (2013) was also a bonafied blockbuster, grossing little under USD 400 million globally. The major downturn came with Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017), which although emerged a hit at the box office, grossed half of what its predicessor did. This should have been a red signal for the makers of Smurfs, to be cautious about what they put out next. Smurfs Looks To Gross Less Than The Underperforming Smurfs: The Lost Village Worldwide The new Smurfs movie looks to be doing significantly less than The Lost Village did. The promotions of the film were low key, suggesting that the makers were perhaps underconfident about their movie. Also, with Pixar's Elio sealing a disastrous fate despite positive reviews, the makers of Smurfs must've thought it would be best to not go all out with the marketing. Smurfs Shall Observe Slight Growth In India On Saturday Smurfs shall see a slight growth on Saturday in India. The growth on Saturday is customary for all films, regardless of the word of mouth. In its lifetime, the animated film shall be lucky to be doing Rs 3 crore net. Paramount shall be observing the box office performance very closely. The dull initials should be a wake up call for the makers. They either need to rebrand the franchise or try mixing it up with the other animated franchises for better long term prospects. Smurfs In Theatres Smurfs plays in theatres. You can book your tickets now. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

SOS please! Rihanna's Smurfs outing is 50 shades of blue

Grammy winner Rihanna heads a star-studded cast in this nostalgic reimagining of an '80s cartoon classic that never finds its rhythm. After two underwhelming live-action/CGI hybrids - The Smurfs (2011) and The Smurfs 2 (2013) - failed to charm audiences, Sony and Columbia Pictures went back to basics with 2017's fully animated Smurfs: The Lost Village. Though visually more faithful to the original comics, it didn't spark the franchise revival fans hoped for. Seeking a fresh direction, The Peyo Company - the Belgian guardian of the Smurfs legacy - handed the reins to Paramount Pictures for a brand-new reboot. The change in studio and style does little to help director Chris Miller's (Puss in Boots, Shrek the Third) CGI iteration of the blue mushroom-dwellers, which buckles under the weight of its own ambition. Screenwriter Pam Brady's (South Park) script takes aim at fantasy tropes with a familiar premise: evil wizards, once again obsessed with world domination, who kidnap Papa Smurf (voiced by John Goodman) in an effort to unlock the secrets of an ancient magical book. With their leader gone, the responsibility of launching a rescue mission falls to Smurfette (voiced by Rihanna, who also serves as a producer). She's joined by a team of familiar faces: the strong and dependable Hefty Smurf (Alex Winter), the ever-anxious Worry Smurf (Billie Lourd), and the flamboyantly self-absorbed Vanity Smurf (Maya Erskine), each perfectly embodying their names. Then there's No Name, a Smurf voiced by James Corden, who's deep in the throes of an identity crisis. Unlike his companions, he has no defining trait, no clear purpose, not even a gimmick, making him oddly the most relatable of them all. The film's overcrowded subplots jet-set from Paris to Australia and beyond, while its jarring mix of CGI, traditional animation, and Claymation results in a visually chaotic and disjointed jumble. The story quickly becomes tangled and unnecessarily complex. It's confusing for adults, and downright baffling for kids. The characters, despite the star power of Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh and Jimmy Kimmel, never get beyond shallow caricatures. The one saving grace? Daniel Pemberton's energetic score and Rihanna's catchy song Friend of Mine, which will have your little ones dancing down the aisles. By the credits, you'll be channeling your inner Grumpy Smurf - frustrated, disappointed, and wondering why this reboot couldn't smurf its way to better.
