Watch: Disney+ teases 'Alien: Earth,' Amanda Knox series in 2025 preview
July 8 (UPI) -- Disney+ is previewing its slate of upcoming 2025 releases. In a "Coming Soon in 2025" clip released Tuesday, the streamer teased several new shows, including Alien: Earth and the limited series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox. Alien: Earth stars Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, Adrian Admondson, David Rysdahl, Essie Davis, Lily Newmark, Erana James, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Kit Young, Diem Camille, Moe Bar-El and Sandra Yi Sencindiver. The series takes place in 2120, two years prior to the events of the 1979 film Alien. In the upcoming show, "mysterious life forms more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined" are discovered. Alien: Earth arrives on FX and Hulu on Aug. 12. The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, meanwhile, stars Grace Van Patten, Sharon Horgan, John Hoogenakker, Francesco Acquaroli, Giuseppe De Domenico and Roberta Mattei. The series, due Aug. 20, is described as being "inspired by the story of how Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for the tragic murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, and her journey to set herself free." The roster also includes Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which is expected in December. A third season has already been ordered. All's Fair, a legal drama from Ryan Murphy starring Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash and Teyana Taylor, is set to arrive in the fall. The streamer also teased Chad Powers and Wonder Man.

‘The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox' Teaser Sees Grace Van Patten Telling Amanda's Harrowing Story
The teaser trailer for The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox sees Grace Van Patten as Amanda Knox, fighting for her life. The series is based on Knox's harrowing journey to prove her innocence and regain her freedom after being wrongfully imprisoned for her roommate's murder. Knox, a Seattle native, was studying abroad in Italy at the time. After being initially convicted for murder in 2007, she was later acquitted by Italy's highest court in 2015. Sharon Horgan, John Hoogenakker, Francesco Acquaroli, Giuseppe De Domenico and Roberta Mattei round out the cast for The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox. KJ Steinberg (This Is Us) created the series, which comes from 20th Television in association with The Littlefield Company. Executive producers include Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson and Graham Littlefield with The Littlefield Company; Monica Lewinsky with Alt Ending Productions; Amanda Knox and Chris Robinson with Knox Robinson Productions; and Michael Uppendahl, who also directs. The first two episodes of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox premiere on Hulu Aug. 20, with new episodes dropping on Wednesdays in the following weeks. Jilly Pearce to Head Unscripted Programming at ABC and Hulu
Disney is filling a key executive post in its unscripted division. Jilly Pearce has joined the company as senior vp unscripted programming for ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals. She comes to Disney from the All3Media-owned Objective Media Group America, where she served as president. She reports to Rob Mills, executive vp unscripted and alternative entertainment for Walt Disney Television. 'I'm excited to join Craig Erwich, Rob Mills and their incredible teams at Disney Entertainment Television — the force behind some of the most innovative and compelling shows on television,' Pearce said in a statement. 'I look forward to building on their successful relationships and collaborating on entertaining new formats and beloved returning series.' At Objective Media, Pearce shepherded a host of projects, executive producing CBS' game show Lingo, TBS' The Cube, Max's 12 Dates of Christmas and PBS' The Great American Recipe, among others. Prior to joining Objective Media, she worked at Channel 4 in the U.K. and at MTV. 'Jilly's extensive experience spanning both the network and production sectors brings invaluable insight and leadership to our organization,' said Mills. Sterling K. Brown Stars in Hulu Adventure Epic ‘Washington Black' Trailer
Sterling K. Brown is starring in another Hulu series where the world isn't exactly as it seems. Washington Black, set for release on July 23, is an adaptation of Canadian author Esi Edugyan's 2018 novel that follows the life of an 11-year-old George Washington Black after a life-threatening incident forces him to flee from the sugar plantation in Barbados where he was born. Good fortune and a natural curiosity in the sciences lead Washington on a journey around the globe, where he forms a new understanding of his past and is able to dream unimaginable possibilities for his future as a Black man in the 19th century. Tom Ellis (Lucifer) portrays Christopher 'Titch' Wilde, an explorer and ambitious engineer who first takes Washington under his wing and helps him escape. All eight episodes of Washington Black will premiere on July 23 on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally. It's during Washington's travels to Nova Scotia that he encounters Brown's Medwin Harris, a Black refugee who risks his life to protect Wash and other members of the Black community in Halifax. It's also there that he meets his love interest Tanna Goff, a mixed-race woman of status, played by Iola Evans. Other stars in the series include Rupert Graves, Edward Bluemel and Sharon Duncan-Brewster. Selwyn Seyfu Hinds (The Twilight Zone) is the creator of the adaptation and co-showrunner alongside Kimberly Ann Harrison. The pair are also executive producers along with Brown, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Wanuri Kahiu, Mo Marable, Rob Seidenglanz, Jeremy Bell, Lindsay Williams, D.J. Goldberg, Jennifer Johnson and Anthony Hemingway. Additionally, Edugyan serves as co-producer. Washington Black is produced by 20th Television Production in association with Indian Meadows Productions and The Gotham Group.
