Gillian Anderson speaks movingly about impact of her career as she accepted CineMerit Award

Gillian Anderson has spoken movingly about the impact of her career as she accepted the prestigious CineMerit Award at the Munich International Film Festival. The 55-year-old actress shot to global fame thanks top her role in The X Files, but has since carved a career in movies. She said as she picked up the CineMerit gong: 'I feel unbelievably honoured and I feel like I have been a little bit of a hole. 'I'm a bit of a hermit, so when these things happen it feels like they are even more shocking because I feel like I have been going on, putting one foot in front of the other and doing my thing, and sometimes I forget that people pay attention.' Gillian was recognised at the festival for her distinguished contributions to cinema and television. The award was presented during an event at Munich's Deutsches Theater, where she also screened her new film The Salt Path and participated in a live question and answer session. The evening ended with a standing ovation from the crowd. When asked how time had changed her view of past roles, Gillian paid tribute to her most iconic character, Dana Scully, from The X-Files. 'It does, I think particularly for Scully, because it was such a whirlwind for me,' she said. Gillian added: 'It felt like too big of a responsibility to take ownership of at the time. Hearing firsthand from people the impact that she had on their lives, and also the impact on the STEM community and also on the gay and lesbian community… it's easier to celebrate something in retrospect. 'The demographic range that she has impacted, and continues to impact still, is real.' Gillian said the character's influence continued to shape her work. 'There are a few things that I'm working on that feel like they have aspects of Scully,' she added, going on: 'Not in terms of character necessarily, but in terms of her lineage, (which) is built within them. 'One's a film and one's a book and they make sense because of her. And so, she continues. She continues to impact my life.' Gillian's latest project, The Salt Path, is directed by Marianne Elliott from a screenplay by Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Based on the bestselling memoir by Raynor Winn, it tells the story of Raynor and her husband Moth, who, after losing their home and receiving a devastating medical diagnosis, decide to walk the South West Coast Path. Raynor was in attendance at the screening and sat in the front row during the award presentation. Gillian said the story's themes of homelessness, resilience and compassion resonated with her. She added: 'When you do a project like this, that has so much to say that really moves an audience, and even potentially moves an audience to think differently, behave differently, be more compassionate, be more questioning about the state of the world, the state of our politics, the state of our governments, the state of our relationships… it makes me think differently about the things that I spend my time doing.'

David Duchovny, 64, sells Malibu home for $11 million after marrying Monique Pendleberry, 31

David Duchovny has a lot to celebrate. He sold his chic Malibu bachelor pad on Point Dume for a cool $11 million shortly after marrying his girlfriend of six years, Monique Pendleberry, 31. The X Files star's, 64, former home has three bedrooms and an indoor-outdoor living plan over 3,580 square feet. The home hit the market for $12.5 million after buying it for $4.75 million in 2016. He originally rented the property from The X-Files creator Chris Carter when he needed a Los Angeles base. Duchovny razed the existing house, and poured about $7 million into building the modern home. Perhaps the most unique thing on the property is the guest house made out of an authentic train caboose. 'It's one of the things I'm most proud of that I've ever developed in my life,' Duchovny told WSJ of the caboose, which includes a living and sleeping area, dining nook, kitchen, bathroom, and even a roof deck. 'It's just an amazing little spot to be in,' he gushed. He originally rented the property from The X-Files creator Chris Carter when he needed a Los Angeles base. The open-concept main house seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor living, creating a breezy, relaxed vibe throughout the space. Outside, there's a sprawling wooden deck, a cozy lounge with built-in heaters, a sparkling lap pool, a sunken firepit, and an outdoor kitchen perfect for entertaining. You'll also find a Jacuzzi, a cold plunge, and an outdoor shower, making the backyard feel like a private spa retreat. He shares the home with his new wife Monique Pendleberry and their dogs, Brick and Rookie. Duchovny secretly married his much younger wife after six years of dating. Monique was just 25 when she started dating the then 58-year-old Californication star. Seen here June 10, 2023 Monique was just 24 when she started dating the then 58-year-old Californication star. Monique was born on June 14, 1993 and went to Newbury Park High School in Ventura Counry where she was the star of the soccer team. She went on to play soccer in college at the University of California at Irvine and now runs a Malibu-based floral design company called Friday Flowers. Duchovny and Pendleberry have largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight and only made their red carpet debut at the premiere of his film You People in 2023. 'They met at the juice company where Monique was working. I met David before she did, but we've all hung out. They travel together to New York, Canada and Malibu. But they're not dating, they're just friends,' Monique's uncle Dirk Drew told Radar Online in 2023. The couple met at SunLife Organic Juicery, where Monique worked in 2017. A friend of David's owns the store. Prior to Monique, David was married to actress Tea Leoni, 59, from 1997 to 2014. The pair tied the knot in 1997 and quickly became one of Hollywood's most prominent power couples, often praised for keeping their private life relatively low-key despite their fame. However, their relationship hit a rough patch in 2008 when Duchovny checked himself into a rehabilitation center for treatment of sex addiction. The separation made headlines, but the two reunited in 2011, sparking hope for a lasting reconciliation. Despite their efforts, the couple quietly parted ways again and ultimately finalized their divorce in 2014 after 17 years of marriage. They share two children: daughter Madelaine West Duchovny, 24, who has begun forging her own path as an actress, and son Kyd Miller Duchovny, 21, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight.

LEGO Revisits 90s Icons With 'The X-Files' And 'Wallace & Gromit' Sets

LEGO has unveiled the winners of its 'Build Your Nostalgia: 90s Throwback!' challenge, bringing to life two fan-created sets featuring period icons The X-Files and Wallace & Gromit . The challenge tasked creators to channel their nostalgia into builds that were between 1,000 to 5,000 pieces and bring to life their favourite TV shows and movies from the 90s. The two winning sets will now go into development, undergoing tweaks by the LEGO Ideas team before becoming an official set sometime in the future. The X-Files set was designed by user WetWired and features an intricate diorama of a forest UFO scene above a recreation of Fox Mulder's famous basement office. The set will comprise approximately 2,020 pieces and includes seven minifigures: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, 'Grey' Alien, The Jersey Devil, Assistant Director Walter Skinner, Syndicate Leader and Eugene Tooms. The set is based on the sci-fi TV show The X-Files , which centres around two FBI agents, Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), who carry out paranormal investigations. The show debuted in 1993 and ran for 11 seasons, becoming a worldwide phenomenon in the process. On the other hand, the Wallace & Gromit set was submitted by user Pidelium and depicts the legendary British inventor Wallace and his trusty canine companion Gromit. The set is based on the classic 1995 movie Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave , and features the duo on board their iconic motorcycle and sidecar. The two sets are currently in their development phase, with the LEGO design team working with WetWired and Pidelium to bring their winning sets to life. It is to be noted that the final products might also differ from their initial fan designs, so it remains to be seen what they will actually look like as they approach their currently unspecified launch date. Emmy-nominated actor from ‘Scarface,' ‘Ghostbusters II' dies at 87

Harris Yulin, the Emmy-nominated actor best known for his menacing roles in iconic films such as 'Scarface' and 'Ghostbusters II," has died. He was 87. Yulin died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday, June 10 in New York City, Deadline reported. The actor's death was announced by his family and manager Sue Leibman. Yulin was born on Nov. 5, 1937 in Los Angeles, California, his IMDb biography states. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, Yulin appeared in more than 100 film and television productions including 'Night Moves,' 'St. Ives,' 'Clear and Present Danger,' 'Looking for Richard,' 'Bean,' 'The Hurricane' and 'Training Day.' Yulin's most notable performances were as Chief Detective Mel Bernstein in 1983's 'Scarface' and as Judge Stephen Wexler in 1989's 'Ghostbusters II.' The actor received an Emmy Award nomination in 1996 for his work on 'Fraiser,' in which he starred as Jerome Belasco in the episode titled, 'A Word to the Wiseguy." He also had notable roles on series including 'Cagney & Lacey,' 'The X-Files,' 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' and 'Ozark,' where he appeared in 12 episodes. A lifelong stage actor, Yulin made his New York stage debut in James Saunders' 1963 production of 'Next Time I'll Sing to You.' His Broadway debut came in the early 1980s. Yulin went on to appear in celebrated productions such as 'Hedda Gabler,' 'The Price' and 'The Diary of Anne Frank.' He also won a Lucille Lortel Award for directing 'The Trip to Bountiful' and received Drama Desk nominations, the Guardian reported. Before his death, Yulin was set to star in the upcoming MGM+ series 'American Classic,' which stars Kevin Kline and Laura Linney. Yulin was set to play Linus Bean, father to Kline's character in the show. Kline stars as Richard Bean, a Broadway actor who has a meltdown and comes home to the town of Millersburg, where his father founded a local theater. 'Harris Yulin was very simply one of the greatest artists I have ever encountered,' director Michael Hoffman said of the late actor, according to Deadline. 'His marriage of immense technique with an always fresh sense of discovery, gave his work an immediacy and vitality and purity I've experienced nowhere else. And what he was as an actor, he was as a man, the grace, the humility, the generosity,' Hoffman said. 'All of us at 'American Classic' have been blessed by our experience with him. He will always remain the beating heart of our show.' Yulin is survived by his wife, Kristen Lowman, son-in-law Ted Mineo, nephew Martin Crane, and godchildren Marco and Lara Greenberg, Deadline reported. Welcome to the golden age of conspiracy theories

There's never been a better time to be a conspiracy theorist: government funded plans to dim the sun; a pop star embarking on a questionable space flight; supermarkets stripped bare after Spain and Portugal were plunged into a catastrophic blackout; Robot policemen on the streets of China; the US admitting to the existence of UFOs. Like a lot of people my age, my gateway drug to the murky world of cover-ups was The X Files. For an hour each week, my young mind was exposed to alien abductions, secret societies, cannibal cults and paranormal phenomena. And my interest in the other worldly – and the people who wholeheartedly believe that humanity is being misled en masse – has never abated. Since the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001, I have been an avid reader of conspiracy theories about all sorts of topics, from the ludicrous to the mundane.
