Luton boss on 'bittersweet' Thelo Aasgaard Rangers move

The Hatters boss admits it's tough to be losing a top talent so soon after bringing him to the club. However, it is also a proud moment to have helped him along the way to such a big move. "But it's also a proud moment as a football club to take a boy from League One in January and within six months he has made his international debut where he scored and he has now got a transfer to an incredible football club who will be playing in the Champions League qualifiers. "We are obviously proud of what he has gone onto achieve in the short time he was with us but we are disappointed he has left. "I think ultimately it was inevitable it was going to happen with the amount of interest in him and his international manager's desire for him to move on as well. "It certainly didn't help but we understand the situation and have to focus on our future now."

Thelo Aasgaard tells Rangers fans his transfer decision was 'easy' as £3.5m man rubber stamped on 4 year deal
It's full steam ahead at Ibrox as the Light Blues continue to get the done deals over the line ahead of crucial Champions League action Overjoyed Thelo Aasgaard has officially signed for Rangers – and told fans it was an easy decision to sign up for the Russell Martin revolution. Martin has moved fast to secure the Norway cap on a four-year deal, with the club shelling out £3.5m to land the Luton Town playmaker. It means the new Ibrox owners have spent £6m this week along with Emmanuel Fernandez also coming north from Peterborough, with Martin's squad beginning to take serious shape. The Light Blues have also snapped up Max Aarons and Joe Rothwell from English Premier League outfit Bournemouth as well as Lyall Cameron who signed a pre-contract from Dundee. Now Aasgaard makes the switch north from Luton Town as he swaps League One for a shot at the Champions League where Gers face Panathinaikos in qualifying later this month. It's been a long wait for the 23-year-old but he's buzzing to get it over the line at last as he said: 'I am delighted to be here. I have been waiting for it, but I am glad to get it over the line. 'When I heard about Rangers I was over the moon. I have played against the manager's teams a few times and I always pictured myself in his team and to be here now is really good. 'It was an easy decision, I love the number of games here, it is like the EFL and I love playing. The stature and history is enough as well." Boss Martin added: 'We are delighted to bring Thelo to the club. 'He is a player who we have liked for a long time, and we believe he possesses the necessary qualities to thrive at this club and in this team. He wants to win and develop as a player, and we believe we can help him do both. 'His attributes will enhance the group and look forward to him getting to know his teammates on and off the pitch.' Sporting director Kevin Thelwell said: 'Thelo is a player who has been on the radar of several clubs around Europe. 'He is a player capable of making the difference in the final third of the pitch and strengthens an area of the squad that we feel is important. 'We believe he will be a fantastic addition to the side and an important asset in the years to come.'
