Chelsea has largely been dominant in this tournament. It has a chance this afternoon to make it all the way to the final without facing any teams from the big-five leagues in England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy.
Outside of a puzzling (but inconsequential) 3-1 loss to Flamengo in group play, Chelsea has had a clear edge against every opponent it has faced, outscoring LAFC, Esperance Tunis, Benfica and Palmeiras 11-2.
In knockout play, however, Chelsea has had two scares. It needed extra time vs. Benfica in the round of 16 after allowing an equalizing PK in the 95th minute, and it did not score the game-winner vs. Palmeiras in the quarterfinals until the 83rd.
Chelsea, Fluminense Matchup Breakdown
Expect Chelsea to dominate possession this afternoon against a Fluminense squad that has lost the possession battle in four of five Club World Cup matches.
Chelsea should also get plenty of shots, but the question will be whether they can get quality looks. Fluminense conceded a 68-32 possession advantage to Inter Milan, but shut out the Serie A club 2-0 and were credited with just 1.29 xGA (expected goals allowed) by FOTMOB, with Inter turning its 16 total shots into just four shots on target and two big chances.

Chelsea is coming off a quarterfinal match vs. Palmeiras where it went up 1-0 early on a Cole Palmer goal, but its only other offense came when it caught a break with an own-goal in the 83rd. The Blues finished that contest with six shots on target, but 0 big chances, according to FOTMOB, and an underwhelming 1.16 xG.
Chelsea vs. Fluminense Best Bets
There's certainly a chance that Fluminense's back line -- which is led by former Chelsea center back Thiago Silva, who helped the club win the Champions League in 2021 -- can limit the favorites' scoring opportunities in this match and make this game interesting for 90 minutes.
But even Fluminense's own manager, Renato Gaucho, has admitted that his roster will be overmatched in this contest, saying to the BBC, "We are ugly ducklings but that doesn't mean we can't win the Club World Cup."
