Ravens should avoid being tempted by a recent trade theory for an NFC East pass rusher
Experts are calling for the Giants to trade Kayvon Thibodeaux, and the Baltimore Ravens should ignore any calls about the pass rusher The Baltimore Ravens continue to win and remain in the Super Bowl conversation for a reason: they are well-run. Ozzie Newsome handed the reins to Eric DeCosta, ensuring a seamless transition. That phrase perfectly captures the situation. On the field, they're in good hands. John Harbaugh has been at the helm as this team's head coach for longer than some of our kids have been alive. Their gunslinger at quarterback, Lamar Jackson, is a two-time MYP who should have won his third this past season (sorry, Josh Allen). The Ravens succeed because they make wise decisions. How's that for insight? It's a simple theory, yet its construction is complex. That said, it may not be necessary to caution them against considering a recent trade idea that was mentioned, but I'll go ahead and offer that warning anyway. Trading for Kayvon Thibodeaux certainly isn't the solution for the Baltimore Ravens. Confession... It has been tough lately. Every weekend brings a Sunday without Ravens football, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to maintain my sanity. Mowing the lawn doesn't help. Neither does extra exercise. Social media is probably the last thing we should be paying attention to, but alas, we keep venturing to Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Here's a theory that no one with the authority to make this type of decision has expressed, but one name that keeps getting tossed around belongs to Kayvon Thibodeaux. We're hearing and reading this more frequently. All 22 Films brought this up a couple of months ago. That fueled a few social media postings. Chat Sports' Ravens Rundown followed suit with a similar suggestion. We won't even get into the response and buzz that occasionally swells on social media. There are a few things wrong with this, one being that it doesn't seem like Thibodeaux is available. Another issue is that, though there is talent there, he has never quite delivered what is expected of him. He keeps vowing to break the NFL's single-season sack record. He has yet to make that happen. Think about it. If the former Oregon pass rusher was producing what the New York Giants had hoped, would they trade for Brian Burns or draft Abdul Carter third overall this past April? The logic is understandable. Adding two elite pass rushers may make Thibodeaux seem expendable to the Giants, but the Ravens have a potentially equal or greater talent in second-round draftee Mike Green. They also added undrafted rookie free agent Kaimon Rucker, and don't forget. Jadeveon Clowney is also available. If Baltimore isn't interested in grabbing him, the more proven commodity, they'd be better suited to stick with what they have. Again, we haven't heard of any genuine interest in Thibodeaux swirling, but it's sometimes beneficial to get ahead of these things before any real traction becomes noticeable.

Giants Trade To Break Up D-Line Urged As Final Offseason Move
Giants Trade To Break Up D-Line Urged As Final Offseason Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Giants used their No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to land premier pass-rushing prospect Abdul Carter from Penn State. Carter rounds out what could be one of the most imposing defensive lines in football alongside Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Advertisement That is ... if that foursome is still together by the time Week 1 rolls around. Thibodeaux has been mentioned in trade rumors for the last couple years, and ESPN believes the Giants should follow through with that idea by trading him to a team in more need of an edge rusher. The Giants' D-line would still be solid minus their 2022 first-round pick, and draft capital in return could help the team's efforts to acquire more youth on offense for a future featuring rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and star receiver Malik Nabers. "Thibodeaux has two years left on his rookie contract, and he'll need an extension after the 2025 season," Aaron Schatz says. "The team won't want to pay him at the going price for starting edge rushers if he's not going to be starting." Advertisement New York is stuck in a surplus with three starting-caliber edges but just two spots available. That four-man lineup could be used with Thibodeaux sliding inside to form an athletic NASCAR package, but he's most comfortable as a defensive end. Schatz believes a team like the Green Bay Packers or Detroit Lions could be willing to exchange a Day 2 draft pick for Thibodeaux and his pass-rushing prowess. Thibodeaux saw a major drop off in sack totals last year, falling from 11.5 in 2023 to just 5.5 in 2024, however, he did play five less games. Their play on the field will fully dictate future moves, but as it stands now, the Giants' offense needs more work than the defense. Another reliable pass-catcher to put opposite of Nabers should be the team's top target in future drafts or in a trade this year. A Thibodeaux trade could be the medium in which that gets done. Advertisement The defensive line is in an embarrassment of riches situation, and getting rid of Thibodeaux could benefit multiple future plans without sacrificing a major loss in pass-rush depth. Packers Linked to Major Offseason Trade for Defensive Upgrade
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Green Bay Packers are set to enter training camp and preseason action as one of the top potential contenders in the NFC. After making the playoffs in each of the last two years under Jordan Love, the team is hoping to take the next step. While the Packers have been a contender over the last couple of years, they have been unable to make the necessary plays in the playoffs. There are still a couple of holes the team should look to fill to make sure that doesn't happen again. One of those holes comes on the defensive side of the football. Green Bay could use a better pass rush. Matt LaFleur, head coach of the Green Bay Packers during the game against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium on September 22, 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee. However, general manager Brian Gutekunst and the front office have declined to sign any of the proven pass rushers available. With that in mind, one NFL analyst has suggested a bold trade for Green Bay. It would require pulling off a major deal with the New York Giants. ESPN's Aaron Schatz has suggested a trade between the Packers and Giants that would feature young pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. "Yes, New York can use an edge rusher rotation and get plenty of value out of him. It can create a NASCAR-style package where one of its edge rushers moves inside on third down," Schatz wrote. "But the Giants can also trade Thibodeaux to a contender that needs help on the edge, such as the Packers or the Lions, and probably get a Day 2 pick in return." Obviously, this is not a report of talks. It's simply an idea that Green Bay could make sense as a trade partner if New York chose to trade him. Read more: Vikings Urged to Make Major Move to Complete 2025 Roster What would the Packers be getting if this trade did become a reality? They would be acquiring a 24-year-old with elite pass rushing potential. During the 2024 NFL season, Thibodeaux played in 12 games. He racked up 28 tackles, 5.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and two defended passes. Back in 2023, he totaled 50 tackles, 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and four defended passes in 17 games. It's very unlikely that Green Bay will pull off a move for Thibodeaux. But, if he does happen to be made available, the Packers should absolutely come calling. For more Green Bay Packers and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

WATCH: Oregon Star Matayo Uiagalelei Works With Ducks Legend Kayvon Thibodeaux
One of the biggest recruiting tactics for a college football team is the ability to bring back past players who are now in the NFL and use them as a tool for incoming prospects on visits. The Oregon Ducks did that this past weekend with former first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux, a star for the New York Giants. While the former Duck might have helped with some recruits in town over the weekend, he also got a chance to work out with current Ducks' star Matayo Uiagalelei, teaching the junior a couple of tips and tricks in his pass-rushing moves. The video shows Uiagalelie working on a rip move against Thibodeaux, who coaches him up, saying that the move is still too soft and that he needs to be more aggressive and physical with his rip. While it's cool to see the specifics of the move and the fundamentals at work, it's also encouraging to see the size of Matayo next to the NFL defensive end. Thibodeaux is listed at 6-foot-4, 256 pounds, while Uiagalelei is listed at 6-foot-5, 270 pounds. We've seen the current Duck transform his body and add a ton of muscle since he showed up in Eugene a couple of years ago, but seeing it next to a star like Thibodeaux is revealing. Uiagalelei is projected to be one of the best pass-rushers in the nation this year after leading the Big Ten in sacks a year ago with 10.5. If he plays up to his expected ceiling, it's not hard to see a world where he is an early first-round pick in next year's NFL draft, just like Thibodeaux was back in 2022.
