Thierno Barry set for Everton medical after £27.5m transfer agreed
Thierno Barry is set to undergo a medical with Everton after the club reached a deal with Villarreal for the forward. The 22-year-old is moving closer to joining David Moyes' squad after talks between the Blues and the La Liga side reached a conclusion. Advertisement As previously reported, negotiations had been ongoing for some time. By the middle of last week there was growing hope Barry would become the club's second signing of the summer. Work still needs to be done for the deal to be completed but a move is now looking increasingly likely, with the clubs having settled on a fee for the France Under-21s international. Advertisement The Spanish outfit were determined to get close to the £34m release clause in Barry's contract but, publicly and privately, expressed an openness to negotiations - particularly if the player should wish to move. The clubs are understood have reached a deal for around £27.5m. Should the rest of the process go to plan then Barry will become the second men's first-team signing since new owners The Friedkin Group took over the Blues in December. The first was the move to make Carlos Alcaraz a permanent signing in May, following a successful loan spell from Flamengo. Barry will provide competition for the club's strikers Beto and Youssef Chermiti and will offer a welcome boost to a first team squad that currently holds just 18 players - if young goalkeeper Harry Tyrer and teen starlet Harrison Armstrong are included within the numbers. Advertisement The departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin led to Moyes' belief he needed to bolster his forward line. Barry rose to the fore last season after scoring 11 goals for Villarreal in his first campaign since moving from Swiss side FC Basel. Progress follows Barry's involvement in the European Under-21 Championship, in which France reached the semi-finals last month. It comes after Everton resolved the final outstanding contract issues from last season by securing both Michael Keane and Idrissa Gueye for the first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton confirm Thierno Barry as David Moyes expects more new transfers
Thierno Barry is officially an Everton player. The club confirmed the striker had signed a four-year deal on Wednesday. The France youth international arrives from Villarreal and has forfeited the chance to play Champions League football next season to join the Blues. Barry netted 11 La Liga goals last season to help the Yellow Submarine finish fifth in La Liga. Advertisement The 22-year-old will cost Everton around £27 million. Barry had a £34 million release clause in his contract with Villarreal. "It's very exciting to be here. I just can't wait to start and I hope to start very quickly." "Everton is a big club in the Premier League. They have a good history and good players have played here, like Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku. When I was young I liked to watch these players, now I want to do like these players who have gone before. Advertisement "I had good conversations with the manager. He told me I have the quality to play in the Premier League. He wants to do good work with me. He wants to help me on my road and I felt the sincerity with him so that's why I chose to come here as well. "For me, it is a dream to play in the Premier League. I think I proved in my career so far that I can adapt. For example, last season I went to LaLiga, which is a top league, and I think I had a good season for my first season. I'm not scared to play here and do the same." The signing is a key one for manager David Moyes. Dominic Calvert-Lewin left the club after nine years this summer, while the public pursuit of Liam Delap ultimately failed, with the striker opting to join Chelsea from Ipswich Town. "We are delighted to have brought Thierno to the Club," said Moyes. "We see lots of potential and we are hoping for good things from him. Advertisement "We will give him plenty of time to settle in and we are looking forward to getting started working with him as soon as possible. I'm hoping to make more additions in the coming weeks." It means Barry joins Beto and Youssef Chermiti as Everton's centre-forward options for the new season. Beto impressed under Moyes last season and finished the Premier League season with eight goals. The new season is a significant one from Everton, as they move into their new Hill Dickinson Stadium on the Liverpool waterfront. Barry, who is the club's second permanent signing this summer after Carlos Alcaraz, will have the perfect stage upon which to perform as a result.

Thierno Barry sends emotional farewell message as £27.5m Everton transfer announcement nears
Thierno Barry has seemingly confirmed he is set to join Everton. The Villarreal forward has posted a farewell message to the club on his Instagram account. The striker flew in to Merseyside on Tuesday to undergo a medical. The Blues have agreed an initial £27.5 million fee for the forward, who scored 11 goals in La Liga last season and helped Villarreal qualify for the Champions League. Advertisement While supporters now wait for official confirmation that the deal has been done, Barry has dropped a huge indication that an announcement is imminent with his emotional social media message. "Thank you for the love you've given me since day one, with that beautiful memory of my first goal in the stadium. That's what gave me the strength to go out fighting every weekend for you. Advertisement "I want to thank my teammates for letting me live an incredible year, full of joy and wonderful people I've met within the club and the team. "I thank the mister for trusting me from the first phone call we had, which convinced me to come to Villarreal. Thanks to him, I've progressed as a player and as a person, and now I even speak a little Spanish. "It's been a crazy adventure that has led us to qualifying for the Champions League, and I hope the team goes very far in this competition. See you later." Football journalist Med Sesay also shared images of Barry that appear to show him signing his contract: Everton manager David Moyes made no secret of his desire to sign a centre-forward last season, confirming the club were interested in Liam Delap before he eventually joined Chelsea. Advertisement Dominic Calvert-Lewin also left the Blues at the end of his contract and the hope will be that Barry - alongside the likes of Beto and Iliman Ndiaye - can add an exciting new dimension to the Everton attack.

Everton transfer links give game away about next priority after Thierno Barry confirmed
It was always going to be an exciting but challenging summer for Everton. But as the return of the Premier League ticks closer, it has been a encouraging start. Tying Jarrad Branthwaite down to a new contract that reflected his status as a centre-back Champions League teams would gladly take off Everton's hands was huge. Advertisement So too was agreeing fresh terms with Idrissa Gueye, who swept the board at the club's end-of-season awards after arguably the best campaign of the six he has enjoyed across two spells with the Blues. READ MORE: Everton confirm Thierno Barry as David Moyes expects more new transfers READ MORE: Everton date for first competitive Hill Dickinson Stadium fixture confirmed And at a time of massive change for the club, it was paramount that captain Seamus Coleman remained on the playing staff for at least one more year. Advertisement David Moyes was also keen to keep hold of Michael Keane, another experienced Premier League campaigner, and the defender's decision to sign a new deal means the Everton manager now has the security of having four centre-backs to choose from. Moyes' attacking options have also been bolstered by the permanent arrival of Carlos Alcaraz and the exciting completion of the £27m transfer of Thierno Barry from Villarreal. And it was after the France Under-21 international's move to Merseyside was confirmed yesterday (July 9) that the Blues boss admitted more signings will soon be on their way. Advertisement Moyes said: "We are delighted to have brought Thierno to the club. We see lots of potential and we are hoping for good things from him. "We will give him plenty of time to settle in and we are looking forward to getting started working with him as soon as possible. "I'm hoping to make more additions in the coming weeks." That comes as no surprise. At least one new goalkeeper to back up Jordan Pickford is required as is a left-back to provide cover and competition for Vitalii Mykolenko. And given the Blues made a play to sign Kenny Tete on a free transfer before he decided to sign a new contract with Fulham, a new right-back could also be on a shortlist. Advertisement But perhaps the position Moyes needs to prioritise next is the midfield. While Gueye has penned a new one-year contract that contains the option of a further 12 months, Everton still look light in the centre of the park after Abdoulaye Doucoure's departure. And given the transfer links that have emerged this week, it appears the Blues boss knows that, too. Aston Villa midfielders past and present are said to be on Moyes' radar. According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Douglas Luiz is a player of interest. The 27-year-old Brazil international was outstanding during his five seasons at Villa Park but after signing for Juventus in a £42.35m deal last summer, he has struggled, partly due to injury. Advertisement While according to The Athletic, Everton are interested in Villa captain John McGinn, although the word out of the Midlands is that Unai Emery has no intention of letting the 30-year-old Scotland international leave. McGinn and Luiz are two players who would slot straight in alongside Gueye or James Garner. But with the former turning 36 in September, it would not be a surprise if the Blues are looking for his long-term replacement. Interesting, then, that Sky Sports suggest Everton are one of a number of clubs, in the Premier League and elsewhere, keeping an eye on Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney. Advertisement The 23-year-old defensive midfielder is fresh back from the European Under-21 Championship where he helped England, led by former Blues midfielder Lee Carsley, defend their title. Some supporters may argue that the next box that needs to be ticked off on Moyes' lengthy to-do list is 'sign a right-winger'. And, given the club has gone so long without boasting an orthodox player in that position, those supporters would have a point. But if the gossip columns are to be believed, it appears a man in the middle could be the next arrival through the increasingly busy Hill Dickinson Stadium doors.
