Kota MADANI Development Gives Civil Servants Greater Housing Access
By Thivyamalini Ramalu PUTRAJAYA, June 27 (Bernama) -- The Kota MADANI initiative in Precinct 19, the development of a smart city that is friendly to the people and the environment, has been welcomed by various levels of society, especially those serving in the federal government's administrative centre. What's more, the initiative has also been appreciated by civil servants from the Indian community who moved from rural areas to Putrajaya and experienced difficulty in obtaining rented housing in a short period of time. Putrajaya Indian Civil Servants Association (IMAIYAM) chairman Dr Sathiskumar K. Muthusamy said most Indian civil servants have stated that they often face problems obtaining housing, at exorbitant costs for house or room rental. "As they are not able to find quarters, they are forced to rent outside at expensive rates. Some also complain that they are often victims of social problems when trying to obtain rented accommodation. "(So) This government move is very timely and we (IMAIYAM) really appreciate it. It is not just providing a place to live but also giving hope to many civil servants to live comfortably and peacefully under one roof in Kota MADANI," he told Bernama when contacted today. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday (June 26) officiated the Kota MADANI development project worth RM4 billion in Precinct 19, which will be developed by Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PjH) through a public-private partnership model based on the concept of build, lease, maintain and transfer (BLMT), without involving government allocations at the initial stage. Kota MADANI will have 10,000 units of high-intensity residential quarters capable of accommodating more than 30,000 residents, vertical schools and various public facilities. Assistant Director of the Research and Program Planning Division of the Community Communication Department K. Yuvarany said the development of the quarters was highly anticipated as she is also facing expensive rent even for one room in Cyberjaya.

Kota Madani Development In Precinct 19 Can Overcome Shortage Of Govt Quarters
By Thivyamalini Ramalu PUTRAJAYA, June 25 (Bernama) -- Calls to increase the number of government quarters in Putrajaya over the past 25 years are set to be finally answered through the development of Kota MADANI in Precinct 19 here, said Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud. Speaking to Bernama and RTM here today, he said government quarters are still in high demand, particularly from support groups who have been renting houses quite far from their workplaces. "Under the original master plan in 1998, we did plan for these residences. Based on the demand for quarters that we have received so far, we now have 17,000 applicants from various categories. "As far as I can recall, requests to build more quarters have been made since 2000. Finally, this year, we can implement the development of these quarters,' he said. Spanning 41.28 hectares, Kota MADANI is set to feature 10,000 high-density vertical residential units capable of accommodating over 3,000 residents. Its design will integrate artificial intelligence technology, efficient digital infrastructure and a green mobility system. Commenting on the assumptions of certain parties that the project used public funds, Fadlun stressed that the project is being developed through a public-private collaboration by Putrajaya Holdings using the Build-Lease-Maintain-Transfer (BLMT) concept. "… and this can reduce the actual costs because the government does not come out with any funding, and it is all borne by the developers. The only thing is that the repayment period will be determined by the Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS),' he said. The development of Kota MADANI in Precinct 19 will be implemented in stages, with the first phase set to commence in the third quarter of this year, and the development is estimated to cost RM4 billion.

MEF Supports WFH For ASEAN Summit, Urges Careful Rollout
By Thivyamalini Ramalu PUTRAJAYA, May 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) agrees with the government's move to allow employees in the public sector to work from home (WFH) during the ASEAN Summit but suggested that the implementation be thoroughly considered. MEF president Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said the measure is important to ensure that WFH does not negatively affect business productivity, especially for companies operating in areas involved in the high-profile event. 'MEF believes WFH can help ease traffic congestion during the event, but its implementation must be carefully planned. Cooperation between the government, employers, employees or unions is essential to ensure a balanced and effective approach. 'Before WFH is implemented, it is crucial to hold engagement sessions with stakeholders, particularly private businesses and local authorities, to ensure the initiative does not adversely affect productivity for those impacted during the ASEAN Summit,' he told Bernama. Syed Hussain said, however, the WFH implementation in the private sector could face challenges as not all employers have efficient, flexible work management systems. 'If businesses cannot operate physically, small and medium enterprises such as restaurants, transportation and nearby services may suffer losses. Therefore, WFH implementation must align with each company's capacity and needs, including in terms of technology, data security and employee performance monitoring,' he said. He also said that the government's move to allow WFH during the summit reflects a prudent approach, showing that the government continues to function normally while temporarily adjusting to support the success of the international event. 'If implemented well, this WFH initiative could serve as a stepping stone for a broader hybrid work policy in the public sector. It aligns with global trends that recognise work-life balance and the use of technology to improve public service efficiency,' he said.
