Thomas Muller's reaction to Man Utd transfer speaks volumes - 'You mean now?'
Thomas Muller is set to leave Bayern Munich after the Club World Cup and has poured freezing cold water on any prospect of a free switch to Manchester United this summer Thomas Muller has said he was attracted to Manchester United 'many times' during his career but has laughed off any suggestion that he would be interested in a summer move. The German forward is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the Club World Cup and is on the lookout for a new club. And while he would be keen on trying his luck abroad, the veteran reckons it would be a poor fit for both himself and United were he to go to Old Trafford now. In an interview with CBS Sports, Muller was asked: 'Is there a European league for you that you kind of have a hankering to say 'I would like to have played in the Premier League' or…?" And he replied: "Yeah, I thought about it. There were some moments I thought, 'Ok, maybe it would be nice to experience it.' Muller was then asked "Do Manchester United look appealing to you?" The veteran replied: "Many times. Or do you mean now? No, no, no I'm not the right guy for them and they are not the right club for me. They want to have fun and I want to have fun so that's not a match.' Bayern have had an approach for Liverpool star Luis Diaz rejected and have now been linked with a deal for Marcus Rashford, who is open to playing abroad having been told there is no route back into Ruben Amorim's good books at United. Rashford, 27, flirted with a return to prolific form while on loan at Aston Villa but was injured before the campaign concluded and Unai Emery's side have chosen against activating a clause to make his switch permanent. United's first team squad reconvene for pre-season training on Monday July 7, leaving Amorim with a potentially awkward reunion with several players who are expected to leave by the end of the summer transfer window. That also includes Antony, the Brazilian winger who spent the second half of last season enjoying a successful loan at Real Betis. United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and remain keen on a deal for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, though the Bees asking price remains some way off United's current valuation, while talk of a move for Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres has slowed because his current side appear unwilling to budge on a £85m asking price. Amorim's side will officially kick off pre-season training next Monday, July 7, with their first friendly pencilled in against promoted rivals Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19. They then head to the United States for a training camp and three warm-up fixtures against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton before hosting Fiorentina at Old Trafford a week before the Premier League season kicks off. Thomas Muller asked if he would sign for Man Utd on a free transfer
Thomas Muller has ruled out the prospect of joining Manchester United this summer but admits a move to Old Trafford has appealed to him 'many times'. The 35-year-old will call time on his career at Bayern Munich after their Club World Cup campaign this summer and will be available on a free transfer. Muller, who has won 33 trophies with Bayern, is expected to make the move to Major League Soccer. The German forward was wanted by Louis van Gaal during his reign as United manager in 2015 and admits he was tempted by a switch to the Premier League. 'Yeah, I thought about it,' Muller told CBS Sports. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. 'There were some moments I thought it would be nice to experience it.' But when asked if a move to United 'looked appealing', Muller replied: 'Many times… or do you mean now? 'Now? No, no. I'm not the right guy for them and they are not the right club for me. They won't have fun and I won't have fun so that's not a match.' Muller also backed Florian Wirtz to become a success at Liverpool following his £116 million move from Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern Munich had also held talks to sign Wirtz before the Germany international opted to join Liverpool instead. 'I think Florian will fit everywhere because he's not only a good football player, a very good football player, in my opinion also his mental skills are strong,' Muller said. 'Yeah, the price tag, in the end we are used to it a little bit to deal with it. More Trending 'The expectations are so high but €150 million, that's unreal anyway, so it's just a number between clubs. 'What human person can feel what €150m is about. With €150m you don't get a Neymar but you can plant how many trees? How do you want to charge what €150m get you? Some things you don't get with €150m and some things you can get easily. 'In the end, for me, you shouldn't judge because of the price tag. 'Maybe he will need time to adjust because the game is different. But in the end, the German players I met in my career who did the move to the Premier League always adjusted well, they even get better, so maybe it's a good move, not for us as a club but in the end we have to accept it and beat him next year.' FIFA Club World Cup: Bayern Munich vs. Flamengo odds, picks

Bayern Munich and Flamengo will do battle on Sunday afternoon for a spot in the quarterfinals at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Bayern entered the tournament as one of the favorites to lift the trophy, but now finds itself in a tough section of the draw after failing to win Group C because of a loss to Benfica in their last match. Flamengo has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the tournament, winning Group D ahead of Chelsea. Bayern is a -325 favorite to advance, and is -170 to win the match in regulation. FIFA Club World Cup: Bayern Munich vs. Flamengo betting preview Although Bayern was disappointing in their defeat against Benfica, they were not done any favors by their schedule. Thomas Muller of Bayern Munich waves to supporters. FC Bayern via Getty Images The Bavarians smoked Auckland City, 10-0, in their opening match, and then defeated Boca Juniors, 2-1, to automatically qualify for the Round of 16. That took a lot of the sting out of their match with Benfica, who needed a result to guarantee passage. Nonetheless, Bayern was expected to win and came up short. A similar effort against Flamengo will be punished, as the Brazilians have been outstanding in this tournament and in Brazil's Serie A this season. Flamengo's defensive prowess has been on full display, conceding just two total goals in the group stage against Chelsea, LAFC, and ES Tunis, which was considered one of the toughest groups in the competition. FIFA Club World Cup: Bayern Munich vs. Flamengo pick Bayern is on another level, talent-wise, compared to Flamengo, but FIlipe Luis has the Brazilian side in impeccable form. They'll be happy to defend and force Die Roten to break them down, hoping to hit the Germans on the counterattack and punish any mistakes. It's a formula that has worked for Flamengo in Brazil and in the group stage, but will be a lot tougher to pull off against one of the best clubs in the world. Nonetheless, I think Flamengo can make a real go of this, and will keep things tight for much of the match. Muller wants ‘something new' after he leaves Bayern
dpa Berlin Thomas Muller wants to feel a sense of adventure when choosing his new football club once his time at Bayern Munich comes to an end following the Club World Cup in the United States. 'I would like to discover something new, which is why more distant or exotic countries have an advantage over the (German) domestic league,' Muller told streaming service DAZN in an interview. 'But maybe I will actually stop. Anything is still possible and I'm not stressing about it,' he said. The 2014 World Cup winner will leave his boyhood club after 25 years of service as his contract expires this summer and he wasn't given a new deal. The Club World Cup last 16 match against Flamengo on Sunday could be his final match in a Bayern jersey. It's still unclear what Muller will do in the future and the midfielder hasn't given many hints. MLS club FC Cincinnati have said that they made an offer to have him in their squad. Asked about a move to Inter Miami to play with Lionel Messi in the MLS, Muller said: 'In principle, I wouldn't object to playing with Messi, but I don't have any direct contact with Miami at the moment.' Media reports also suggest that Müller could take a job as a TV pundit for the 2026 World Cup.

Thomas Muller gives blunt response to heat complaints during Club World Cup
Bayern Munich suffered a 1-0 defeat to Benfica in their final group stage match, losing their top spot in Group C. The game was played in extreme 36°C heat in Charlotte, leading to complaints from various players and managers about the difficult conditions. Thomas Muller dismissed these heat complaints, asserting that if he, at nearly 36, can play for 90 minutes, younger players have no excuse. Muller is scheduled to depart Bayern Munich this summer after 17 seasons with the club. He is considering a move to the MLS but has not yet finalized his decision, prioritising his focus on the ongoing tournament.
