Shocking moment furious LIV golfers stop $25m tournament to confront heckling fans
One of the slogans for the Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit is 'Golf, But Louder'. Apparently, one golfer participating in the rebel tour thought things got a bit too loud. Over the weekend, the handsomely paid golfers took their tour to Texas to participate in the LIV Golf Dallas event at the Maridoe Golf Club in nearby Carrollton. The event was sparsely attended, a common sight for the tour, however one fan's outburst was loud enough to attract attention. In round one, the 4Aces GC team was subject to some jeering at the 16th hole at the course. Teammates Patrick Reed and Thomas Pieters were paired together, only for the fan to target Reed with some taunts. It's not clear what was said, but a video did capture the moment that Pieters confronted the fan. During the first round of LIV, outside of the marquee groupings, teams are paired together. It's unclear what Pieters said to the fan, but the interaction only lasted for a few seconds before he got back to business. Reed, to his credit, didn't let the jeering or his teammate's defense of him get in the way of doing his job. The former Masters champion drained a lengthy par putt before turning around on the green and staring down the heckler and seemingly saying something - either to the fan or to Pieters. Reed truly had the last laugh - overcoming a third (and final) round 75 and a four-way playoff to win the tournament which carried a purse of $25million. It's the best result of the season for Reed, who previously had two top-10s at LIV Golf Miami and LIV Golf Korea. In majors, Reed's performances have been like a rollercoaster. After finishing third at Augusta National, he missed the cut at the PGA Championship and then ended up tied for 23rd at 8-over during the US Open at Oakmont.

European Swing Heats Up Over in Antwerp, the DP World Tour returns for the Soudal Open, a pivotal event in the tour's European Swing. Running from 22–25 May at Rinkven International Golf Club, the tournament offers crucial Race to Dubai points and could influence Ryder Cup selection for 2025. This year's edition features a star-studded field: Thomas Pieters, the Belgian hometown hero and LIV Golf member, looks to go one better after finishing runner-up last year. Francesco Molinari, 2018 Open Champion and Ryder Cup legend, adds gravitas with his first appearance at the Soudal Open. Nicolas Colsaerts, another Belgian Ryder Cup alum, returns to energize the home crowd. The 144-player field includes some of the game's biggest names: Charley Hull, Linn Grant, Leona Maguire, and Carlota Ciganda lead the international charge. Gaby López and María Fassi headline the home favorites, looking to inspire the next generation of Mexican golfers. This 72-hole stroke play event features a $2.5 million purse, with $375,000 going to the winner, underscoring its importance on the LPGA's global calendar. From junior prospects under desert skies to Ryder Cup points in the balance and a fresh start in Mexico, this week in golf truly spans the globe. Meet the 13 LIV Golf League teams and rosters for the 2025 season Heading into the 2025 LIV Golf League season, the rosters are fairly similar to what they were in 2024. Of the 54 players who competed on LIV Golf in 2024, 48 of those will be back in 2025. Looking at the six new faces in the league, one of them played their way in through the LIV Golf Promotions event while the other five were signed by teams needing to fill holes on their rosters. LIV Golf's offseason focus was hiring a new CEO, signing a new media-rights agreement and revamping its schedule, which will result in the league going head-to-head against the PGA Tour's biggest events. While none of those offseason signings are as notable as who LIV Golf has signed in the past, the league is banking that one of the young stars will break out and show a player can become one of the world's best playing for LIV Golf. But in terms of the on-course product and talent, 2025 is going to be similar to 2024.
