Is Tia Mowry a Single Mom? The Divorced Parent Responds to Backlash Over the Term
Recently, Tia Mowry typed a note to herself on her phone that read: 'Why do I get backlash for calling myself a single mom?' Mowry shared a screenshot of message in a candid Instagram carousel addressing the criticism she's received for using the term since splitting from her husband of 14 years, actor Cory Hardrict in 2022. The former couple share son, Cree, 14, and daughter, Cairo, 7. In her post, Mowry explained that being a solo parent, in her definition, doesn't mean 'doing it all alone without the father present in their kids' lives at all.' 'For me, in my household, I am SINGLE,' the 'Sister, Sister,' alum wrote. 'So I'm holding it down for everyone at home. I'm the only parent present day to day.' Reactions to Mowry's take were mixed, with some supporting her perspective and others arguing that the phrase should be reserved for women raising children entirely on their own. 'I'm a single woman, who co-parents. I reserve the term 'single mom' for someone who is without assistance,' one person commented. 'Single mom has generally meant a woman raising kids without a partner.' 'Validating!' 'If you file taxes as single, then you are a single parent — period' 'I think it's better to say you're a single woman, co-parenting." 'You are a single woman!!!!!' 'You are in fact, a single mom. Full stop.' 'A single mom is a woman who is raising her children in a single parent household. Just because she co parents doesn't make her any less of a single mom.' Stacie Martin, founder of Single Parent Advocate, highlights that experiences of single parenting can vary greatly. She shares that her ex was never involved in their children's lives. While acknowledging that parents with absent co-parents face different challenges than someone like Mowry, Martin emphasizes the importance of respecting each person's unique situation. 'Parenting for you might be hard because of a different set of factors than it was for me,' Martin tells 'But that doesn't make you any less of a single mom. We all face time contrasts and challenges when balancing our duties as single parents.' That's exactly the point Mowry was trying to make. 'What I want you to take from this: Being a single mom isn't one way or one story,' she concluded. 'There are so many nuances.' This article was originally published on Solve the daily Crossword

Tia Mowry's post-divorce glow-up: redefining self-worth and embracing healing
Tia Mowry shared heartfelt advice on navigating the challenges of divorce on Instagram. Image: Instagram. "Sister Sister" star Tia Mowry has bravely opened up about her transformative journey following her recent divorce from actor Cory Hardrict. The couple, who shared a 14-year marriage, officially parted ways in April 2023, leading Mowry to delve deep into her personal growth and self-discovery through a heartfelt post on Instagram. In an open and inspiring message, Mowry encouraged her fans to rethink societal narratives surrounding divorce and singlehood. 'This is what rewriting the story looks like ✨,' she wrote, accompanying the post with a series of beautiful images that reflect both her resilience and newfound confidence. Reflecting on her past, Mowry acknowledged the damaging societal beliefs that had shaped her perception of self-worth. "They told me I wasn't valuable anymore because I'm 46 and divorced ... For a long time I believed that my value came from being in a relationship. Being chosen. Being picked. That somehow, love from someone else defined who I was." Mowry said that after the divorce, she was forced to ask herself the question, "What does Tia want?" This introspection led to a vital realisation. "When you've been with someone for over 20 years, it's easy to forget who you are outside of that partnership ... I realised how much of my worth I tied to being validated by a man. Society teaches us that. From fairy tales to tradition, we're told we're only valuable when someone picks us. "After my divorce, I saw how people, especially toxic misogynistic men, look down on me. As if I wasn't valuable anymore. Because I have kids. Because I'm not in my twenties. Because I'm divorced. That's the narrative? It's cruel. And it's false." Mowry communicated a powerful message of self-acceptance and empowerment. "I had to unlearn that. I am not less than because I'm single. I'm not damaged because I'm divorced. And I am not unworthy because I'm a mom." Tia Mowry with her kids, Cree, 13 and Cairo, who is 7 years old. Image: Instagram. Emphasising her desire for love, she clarified her intentions: "Yes, I want love, but I'm no longer chasing it to fill a void. I'm choosing me first. Because that's where my peace lives." Her journey towards healing has involved confronting her emotions and connecting with her inner self. She said: "I've done the work. I've cried. I've healed. And for the first time in a long time, I feel like my soul is finally back in my body. I'm no longer floating, disconnected, or trying to survive. Now I am aligned, mind, body and soul and it feels so good." Mowry urged her followers to reconsider what it means to be single. "So let's change the narrative. Being single doesn't mean I'm lacking. It means I'm learning, growing, thriving. I don't need to be chosen to feel validated. I am not expired. I am not 'too much'. I am powerful, whole, enough ... " Taking to the comments, Hollywood actress Halle Berry wrote: "Live your best life babe ❤️." Another fan wrote: "I've been thinking about this … They have always shoved being married, being validated by a man as the number one goal for little girls in these movies. The validation comes from my God that's all I need and so happy I finally woke up ❤️ ❤️🩹."

A California Getaway That'll Make The Whole Family Happy
Anaheim has amusement parks and plenty of other attractions. iStock-Matt Gush Has your child ever planned the family trip? We're not talking about the 'Do you want to go to an amusement park or the zoo?' kind of choosing, either; we're envisioning start-to-finish organizing, from the hotels to the restaurants to just about every detail in between. It's a potentially scary thought, but it's the central idea behind the Imaginagency, 'a travel agency' run by kids (including actor Tia Mowry's little one) that puts together fun, tyke-approved itineraries around Anaheim, California, a vibrant city just over 30 minutes from Los Angeles. The schedules from the six children include some obvious stops (Disneyland) and a few less-familiar options (a cool simulator attraction). Forbes Travel Guide loosely followed a few of these fun-filled schedules (with some elevated detours, of course) and were quite impressed with the choices. These little guides may have legitimate futures as travel professionals because they show sides of Orange County to explore that go well beyond Mickey Mouse. Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa makes quite the splash. Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa If we're talking about Anaheim, the conversation must involve Buzz, Belle and Black Panther in some capacity. As expected, the kids' itineraries universally agree. Disneyland celebrates its 70th year as the happiest place on Earth in 2025 with a bevy of themed rides, food items and merchandise. All the extra balloons and confetti come on top of the everyday ride highlights at Disneyland Park (Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway) and Disney California Adventure Park (Radiator Springs Racers, WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure). Napa Rose may get a new look this fall, but it'll have the same elevated flavors. Disney Between the two neighboring parks, there are roughly 500 acres to explore. Wherever you can save a few steps, it's wise to do so. One way to conserve is with a stay at the perfectly positioned Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. This craftsman-style Forbes Travel Guide Recommended beauty sits right in the heart of the Disney excitement. The walk from the hotel lobby to the lively Downtown Disney District is five minutes on the busiest day. Beyond the brilliant location, the property effortlessly cares for its visitors with precision and playfulness. Never complacent, the 947-room hotel is undergoing a major renovation that promises changes to the rooms (fresh colors and carpets), reception areas (a new forest-themed club lounge) and restaurants (signature Four-Star eatery Napa Rose is getting a complete facelift). Though some updates aren't expected to be finished until 2026, any Disney dust is non-existent and most noise is kept quieter than a mouse. Sample the city's culinary scene at Anaheim Packing District. Visit Anaheim Dining Though many guests know about Disneyland's hand-dipped corndogs and funnel cake fries, the authentic Mexican aromas coming from Downtown Disney's Paseo may be somewhat surprising. Set in a second-floor dining room accented with tan walls and basket pendant lights, Paseo is like a night out at a trendy taqueria in Tulum. The shrimp aguachile (a spicy ceviche) is a flavor-packed starter. The roasted rainbow trout, sitting in a charred corn husk and topped with cherry tomatoes and baby corn, is gorgeous and delicious. But even when you're nowhere near Sleeping Beauty Castle, Anaheim's flavors are fantastic. In the beloved Little Arabia District, you'll find Lebanese pastry shops and spots cooking up Yemeni meats. There's also a Zankou Chicken in an inconspicuous shopping plaza. Its menu has chicken kabobs and shawarma plates on it, just as you'd expect from any reputable Mediterranean establishment. But the star here is the spit-roasted chicken, juicy and simply seasoned in quarter- and half-chicken sizes. The meat falls off the bone, right onto the fluffy pita bread or into the house-made garlic spread. Several of the children's outlines smartly include Anaheim Packing District on them. A Sunkist processing plant in the early 1900s, the space has been granted new life as a bright, buzzy food hall meant to show off the city's diverse tastes and local produce. With 30-plus tasty stalls covering everything from sweets (Randy's Donuts) and soul (Georgia's) to seafood (Chippy Fish & Grill) and smashburgers (The Kroft), it accomplishes its goal. Live music, in-person author events and even speed-dating sessions are helping the address evolve from merely being a culinary space into a full-on communal hangout. Muzeo Museum is an engaging stop for the entire family. Kaz Creative Other Distractions Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center is a short walk from Anaheim Packing District. The 25,000-square-foot space juggles two responsibilities: honestly chronicling local history, from the time of the first indigenous people 20,000 years ago through the world wars, with photos and priceless artifacts; and showcasing revolving exhibits in art, history, science and more. One showing, 'Marvelocity: Art of Alex Ross' (through August 17), is a Spider-Man and Captain America lover's dream that looks at the artist's iconic comic-illustrating career through more than 50 original sketches. 'Lowrider Culture in the United States,' an exhibit looking at the horse-powered Latino tradition through photos and a real car display, opens on September 13. Imaginagency's Brayden suggests Flightdeck + Rogue Racing as another great way for the family to spend an afternoon in his itinerary. Here you get behind the wheel of a fighter jet, a Boeing 737 or an F1 car via simulators equipped with the latest technologies. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt likely needed more than the 30 or 60 minutes you're allotted to prep for their latest movie roles, but at least with this experience you feel some of the same adrenaline-pumping intensity. Los Angeles Angels games and stadium tours are big hits. DeMarco Williams Anaheim offers fascinating sporting opportunities, too. Less than a 10-minute drive from Disneyland is the Honda Center, home of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks from October through April. And only five minutes from there is Angels Stadium, where future hall of famer Mike Trout anchors the Los Angeles Angels. Though fans of the MLB team haven't had much to cheer about on the field lately — the Halos haven't been to the postseason since 2014 — there's plenty of excitement to be had on the all-access tour. Baseball purists will love seeing the locker room, visiting the press box and peeking into the batting cage. At the end of the walk-through, guests receive a gift tote with a commemorative pin and an Angels hat inside. Use the latter to tip your cap to all the kids for pointing you in the right direction for your vacation and to thank Anaheim for showing you a great time in more ways than merely an amusement park. Tia Mowry Gets Personal About How to Overcome the 'Gut-Wrenching Feeling of Divorce'
Tia Mowry invited fans to ask her questions in a Q&A on her Instagram Stories One of the questions was about divorce, which she candidly answered Mowry finalized her divorce from Cory Hardrict in April 2023Tia Mowry is opening up about how to overcome the trials and tribulations of divorce. On Wednesday, June 25, the Tia Mowry: My Next Act star, 46, invited fans to ask her open-ended questions on her Instagram Stories. One of the questions came from a fan who asked, "Girl how the hell do I recover from this divorce? Lord help me Chile!" Mowry went through her own divorce when she announced she was splitting from Cory Hardrict after 14 years of marriage in October 2022. The exes finalized their divorce in April 2023 and share daughter Cairo, 7, and son Cree, 13. She gave her honest advice, telling the fan to "dive into doing the work," and "really, truly focus on self-care." "Focus on what makes you happy and what brings you joy. Build a tribe, a community of friends, a support system. Meditate. Try new hobbies. Read books on healing," she said. The Sister, Sister alum advised her fans to "spend time with your kids if you have them, or just surround yourself with people who genuinely love and support you." "Do things that feel fun and fulfilling. Travel, if you can. Traveling really helped me. It's all about creating new experiences," she said. "The more experiences you have, the further away you get from that heavy, gut-wrenching feeling of divorce." Her last piece of advice was something Mowry has previously spoken about. "Also, allow yourself to cry. Allow yourself to feel it all. Just don't let it consume you," she said. "I hope that helps." Last October, Mowry told PEOPLE that she allows herself to be vulnerable in front of her daughter. 'The thing is as a mother, you kind of try to figure out if you should allow them to see your emotions, your ups and your downs," she said. "And I've made the choice to move from an authentic place. And allow [Cairo] to see that there are days when Mommy is sad. And that's okay." She said that she gives both Cairo and Cree "that space to express and just to be authentic." Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. "And it's not about covering up, you know, things," continued Mowry. "And I think when you move in authenticity, there's healing, there's growth — and I've allowed my children to do that as well."
