Mumbai, July 1, 2025: Tata Motors recorded total sales of 2,10,415 units in Q1 FY26, compared to 2,29,891 units in the same period last year. This comprises 85,606 commercial vehicles (CVs) and 1,24,809 passenger vehicles (PVs), reflecting a YoY decline of 6% and 10% respectively. In the CV segment, while domestic sales dipped 9% to 79,572 units, international business (IB) volumes surged by 68%, reaching 6,034 units. Executive Director, Girish Wagh, highlighted robust growth in exports and optimism for coming quarters driven by a favourable monsoon, lower repo rates, and continued infrastructure push. New launches like the Ace Pro mini truck across petrol, bi-fuel, and EV options, along with AC cabins across the truck range, have strengthened the portfolio. In the PV segment, Tata Motors sold 1,24,809 units, including 16,231 EVs, showcasing resilience amid flat industry demand. MD Shailesh Chandra noted strong EV traction, especially towards the end of the quarter, aided by new launches such as the Altroz and The refreshed Tiago also registered a healthy 16% YoY growth. Looking ahead, Tata Motors remains focused on leveraging new product introductions to outperform the market in hatchbacks, SUVs, and EVs. In the domestic market, Tata Motors' wholesale stood at 37,083 units in June 2025, down from 43,524 in June 2024. In particular, electric wholesales were up, with the company selling a total of 5,228 EVs (including exports) in June, which represented an 12 per cent year-on-year increase with respect to June 2024. For the April-June 2025 quarter (Q1 FY26), Tata Motors reported total wholesales of 1,24,809 passenger vehicles, a 10 per cent year-on-year decline for the wholesales of 1,38,682 units in Q1 FY25. In total, Tata Motors reported 123,839 units in the domestic market, and also a 10 per cent year on year decline in wholesales. While there was a modest 2 per cent dip in quarterly EV volumes, company officials noted a stronger sales trajectory toward the end of the quarter. Product highlights and segment Trends The refreshed Tiago emerged as a bright spot, posting 16% volume growth year-on-year in Q1 FY26, indicating continued demand in the budget hatchback segment. Meanwhile, recent launches like the Altroz and Harrier EV have received positive initial market response, with their full impact expected to materialise in the second half of the fiscal year, the company noted. Commenting on the quarter's performance, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., acknowledged subdued market conditions, particularly in May and June. However, he expressed optimism about Tata Motors' position, citing a strong pipeline and growing customer interest in EVs. The carmaker recently announced the prices of the Tata Harrier EV. The flagship EV offering from Tata Motors is priced between ₹ 21.49 lakh and ₹ 30.13 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom. The Harrier EV is offered in five broad variants: Adventure, Adventure S, Fearless Plus, Empowered and Empowered AWD. Mumbai: Tata Motors on Tuesday reported an 8.47 per cent decline in total sales as the carmaker sold 2,10,415 units in the April-June quarter of FY26, compared to 2,29,891 units sold during the same period the previous year (Q1 FY25). Both commercial and passenger vehicle segments saw a drop in numbers. Commercial vehicle sales stood at 85,606 units, down 6 per cent year-on-year (YoY), while passenger vehicle sales dropped 10 per cent to 1,24,809 units. Domestic sales for Tata Motors in June 2025 also fell 12 per cent compared to June 2024. However, the company saw some bright spots. International business in the commercial vehicle segment grew strongly, with a 68 per cent increase in sales. Tata Motors Executive Director Girish Wagh said that the first quarter began slowly for the commercial vehicle industry, especially in the heavy and small commercial vehicle segments. "But there was some sequential improvement in June, and the company remains optimistic due to a favourable monsoon forecast, expected rate cuts, and growing infrastructure development," he added. Tata Motors MD Shailesh Chandra said the company expects to build momentum with its new launches and expanding EV portfolio, despite the overall subdued industry outlook. In the passenger vehicle segment, Tata Motors sold 1,24,809 units in Q1 FY26, including 16,231 electric vehicles. Although total passenger vehicle sales dropped 10 per cent YoY, EV sales showed signs of recovery towards the end of the quarter. The company said its refreshed Tiago model saw a 16 per cent YoY growth, and new launches such as the Altroz and were received well. Another leading carmaker, Mahindra & Mahindra, reported a strong performance in June 2025. The company sold 78,969 vehicles during the month, including exports, marking a 14 per cent growth compared to June 2024. In the SUV segment alone, Mahindra sold 47,306 units in the domestic market, a growth of 18 per cent. This helped the company end the quarter on a high note, with its highest-ever SUV sales in a single quarter. Mahindra also saw a 36 per cent rise in exports during the April-June period. Mahindra's Automotive Division CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta said that the company's focus on delivering value to customers has driven its strong growth, and it remains confident about the coming quarters.

A father known for his "huge heart" met a tragic end after he was forced to consume acid while being tortured during a robbery. Tiago Augusto Nicolau, a 30 year-old from Brazil, stepped out of his home to clean his car at his mother's place and never made it back. A day later, a worker stumbled upon him desperately clinging to life in the middle of a road. The married taxi driver was discovered with grave damage to his mouth and tongue. Swiftly responding to the emergency, firefighters arrived on the scene and transported him to a hospital in Leme, north-west of São Paulo, where he was placed in the ICU. Before his untimely death on June 18, Tiago managed to share fragments of the ordeal: at around 2pm that fateful day, two armed assailants had intercepted his vehicle and took him to a secluded area. In this remote location, he underwent an assault and was coerced into swallowing a caustic substance. The villains then made off with his Renault Sandero and his mobile, reports the Mirror. Although tests confirmed the ingestion of an acid, details about the precise nature of the chemical have not been disclosed. Examinations further revealed that he had endured significant injuries to his larynx and oesophagus. Initially filed as a robbery, the incident is now under investigation as a robbery-homicide case by authorities following Tiago's passing in the medical facility. Police are persistently trying to trace the culprits involved. Fondly remembered by those close to him, Tiago is depicted as a devoted family man, treasuring his time with his wife and their little girl, Sofia. Firefighters raced to the scene and rushed him to hospital in Leme, north-west of São Paulo, where he was admitted to ICU, reports the Mirror. ‌ Before he died in hospital on June 18, Tiago was set to describe what had happened to him. At around 2pm, two armed thugs had forced him to stop his car and had taken him to a remote spot. There, he was assaulted and forced to drink a corrosive substance, before the crooks left with his Renault Sandero and his mobile phone. Tests confirmed Tiago had been forced to ingest an acid, but the exact substance has not been revealed Medics at the hospital discovered he had also sustained severe injuries to his larynx and oesophagus. The case was originally registered as robbery but is now being investigated as robbery-homicide, following Tiago's death. Cops are still working to identify the suspects. Tiago's loved ones describe him as a family man who was dedicated to his wife and young daughter, Sofia. Tiago had been working as a rideshare driver after vision problems forced him to give up his previous job in the Brazilian Air Force. He was laid to rest in Leme on Friday, June 20. His friend Luana Sampaio said: 'Titi, you weren't just my best friend, you were my brother. A guy with a huge heart, full of plans, with a love that overflowed for Sofia, for whom you lived and dreamed every day.'
