Derry City snap up Morecambe's Player of the Season on 18-month deal

Derry City boss Tiernan Lynch has signed Morecambe defender Jamie Stott on an 18-month contract. The 27-year-old has signed on the dotted line at the Ryan McBride Brandywell after a campaign that saw the Shrimps relegated from League Two, but in which he earned the Players' Player of the Season. Stott has also played for Oldham Athletic, Stockport and Halifax Town. Derry boss Lynch said: 'Jamie comes here with plenty of experience in the EFL and National League and will strengthen our defensive options ahead of a very busy few months. 'He's a big, strong lad and seems happy with the ball at his feet. 'He just arrived this morning and took part in a full training session today and we're really looking forward to working with him.' Stott's former club Morecambe are in turmoil, and have been suspended from the National League by the league's compliance and licencing committee. 'The safety of everyone — supporters, players and staff — is, and will always be, of paramount importance to both clubs. Tiernan Lynch strikes accord with Bohs boss Alan Reynolds after red card fiasco

Derry City boss Tiernan Lynch says he has reached an accord with his Bohemians counterpart in an bid to avoid a repeat of the last Ryan McBride Brandywell meeting between these two sides. Both managers were sent off early in the game, which was won by a Michael Duffy free-kick. A row on the sidelines was sparked by Derry defender Shane Ferguson, who was yellow carded, and it saw the two bosses, and players from both sides, come together. According to Lynch, both he and Reynolds have 'kissed and made up' and have agreed to stick to their own technical areas. He said: 'Myself and the Bohemians manager have kissed and made up, and we now know, we have made an agreement that we will both stay in our own technical areas, and make it easier for everyone else.' 'Micky Duffy is a class act. He is that type of lad who trains like he's 15. It's hard to get him off the pitch every day,' said Lynch. 'I hope he can continue in the vein of form he is in and continue scoring goals, because that will make a massive difference to us.' New signing Brandon Fleming is building up his fitness - and the former Hull City defender's form in training is delighting Lynch. Fleming made 45 appearances for Hull, including 28 in the Championship, and had loan spells at Bolton, Oxford, Shrewsbury, Doncaster and Forest Green Rovers before moving to Derry. Lynch said: 'Brandon is available again. He has been training hard this week. 'Obviously there is a little bit of catch-up, with being in pre-season in his own domestic league before he came here, but he is a lad that obviously has played at a very high level and you can see that he has looked after himself. It's probably just match-fitness for him.' Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email .

New Glentoran striker Pat Hoban slams Tiernan Lynch saying he will 'never forgive him'

Glentoran new boy Pat Hoban has taken a swipe at Tiernan Lynch over how the last few months of his Derry City career panned out. In an explosive interview with the Derry Journal, Hoban, who made the switch to The Oval earlier this month, said he will "never forgive" the former Larne boss for "wasting six months" of his career. Hoban was initially signed at the Brandywell by former boss Ruaidhri Higgins, but following his departure at the end of last season the prolific League of Ireland striker found his opportunities limited and he felt he was being "frozen out". "Of course I was frustrated," Hoban explained. "Even when I was on the bench I knew I wasn't coming on. "It doesn't affect me and my personality or my character. In terms of my career at Derry it does. It ended because of that. "I didn't get a run of games and couldn't show anything to the Derry fans this year at all. He just wasted six months of my career and, to be honest, it's something I'll never forgive either. "It happened to me before at Mansfield when Steve Evans got the job. The January window came and he brought in who he wanted and I was left in the stand until May. I always said to myself I'll never let that happen to me again but it just happened with Derry." Hoban was linked with a move away from Derry ahead of the start of the new season with Glentoran's 'Big Two' rivals Linfield one of the clubs reportedly interested in signing him. He said: "I was hearing stuff about clubs being in for me like Linfield and you're wondering, 'why are they in for me?' So I think they were trying to offload me at that stage. I firmly believe that but of course the club could say something different. "He (Lynch) then changed his tune and said 'you're not going anywhere. You will score 20 league goals for me' and that kind of stuff. He said I was part of it and we're trying to make Derry great again. To be honest I didn't believe it and I was right in the end." Hoban is now relishing his new opportunity with Declan Devine at the Glens insisting he cannot wait to get started. "I need to play football. I've probably got a couple of years left in my career and it was just getting wasted to be honest," he said. "There was other interest from the League of Ireland but I didn't want to go down and fight a relegation battle with Cork. I'd never sign for Drogheda because that would be the one loyalty I would definitely always have for Dundalk. "Waterford were interested but I didn't want to go there. Obviously the big one for me was Galway but that fell through for a certain reason. It's disappointing but things happen for a reason and Glentoran came in and said they wanted me and did everything they possibly could to get me. And that's what players want. They just want to feel wanted. "I know Decky and when I met him and Paddy, they couldn't stress how much they wanted me. I was like, 'come on, let's do it.' "It's a good squad. They'll be competitive when it comes to Linfield, Coleraine, Larne. I'm just excited to experience a different league and play through the winter. I'm just looking forward to playing again."

League of Ireland hero 'will never forgive' ex-manager

Glentoran's latest signing Pat Hoban has launched a scathing attack on Tiernan Lynch for the way his tenure at Derry City concluded. In a candid chat with the Derry Journal, Hoban, who recently made the move to The Oval, expressed his resentment towards the ex-Larne manager for "wasting six months" of his playing days. Initially brought to Brandywell by former manager Ruaidhri Higgins, Hoban saw his game time dwindle after Higgins' exit last season, feeling sidelined and "frozen out". The 33 year old forward alleged he was prevented from transferring to another "top League of Ireland club". However, with only two starts this term, Hoban was eventually allowed to depart and join Glentoran in an effort to revive his career. "Of course I was frustrated," Hoban admitted. "Even when I was on the bench I knew I wasn't coming on", reports Belfast Live. "It doesn't affect me and my personality or my character. In terms of my career at Derry it does. It ended because of that. "I didn't get a run of games and couldn't show anything to the Derry fans this year at all. He just wasted six months of my career and, to be honest, it's something I'll never forgive either." Hoban recounted a previous experience at Mansfield, saying: "It happened to me before at Mansfield when Steve Evans got the job. The January window came and he brought in who he wanted and I was left in the stand until May. I always said to myself I'll never let that happen to me again but it just happened with Derry." Derry City manager Tiernan Lynch (Image: ©INPHO/Morgan Tracey) The striker was rumoured to be on the move from Derry City, with Linfield, Glentoran's fierce rivals, reportedly keen on signing him. He revealed: "I was hearing stuff about clubs being in for me like Linfield and you're wondering, 'why are they in for me?' So I think they were trying to offload me at that stage. I firmly believe that but of course the club could say something different." Hoban shared how his situation changed under Lynch: "He (Lynch) then changed his tune and said 'you're not going anywhere. You will score 20 league goals for me' and that kind of stuff. He said I was part of it and we're trying to make Derry great again. To be honest I didn't believe it and I was right in the end." Now at Glentoran, Hoban is eager to start afresh with Declan Devine, expressing his enthusiasm for the game. "I need to play football. I've probably got a couple of years left in my career and it was just getting wasted to be honest," he admitted. Despite other offers, Hoban had clear preferences: "There was other interest from the League of Ireland but I didn't want to go down and fight a relegation battle with Cork. I'd never sign for Drogheda because that would be the one loyalty I would definitely always have for Dundalk. "Waterford were interested but I didn't want to go there.
